Former ACORN Worker Justifies Preventing Pledge of Allegiance at Illinois Candidate Debate

Thanks to Jeff Dunetz at Yid With Lid we have found out that a former ACORN worker turned director of the League of Women Voters has been heard justifying actions of the debate moderator who tried to prevent the audience at an 8th District candidate debate from reciting the Pledge of Allegiance last week.

As the debate began someone in the crowd yelled out asking if they were going to start the night’s activities with the pledge. The moderator of the debate nixed the idea saying “no we are not.” Then when the crowd expressed its shock and dismay she said “excuse me,” and “it has never been part of…” at which time she was interrupted by the entire crowd reciting the pledge anyway.

For days the controversy has raged since the October 20 debate where debate moderator Kathy Tate-Bradish tried to prevent the people from reciting the pledge. Then on Oct. 22, there was an outrageous story that Executive Director Jan Czarnik of the League of Women Voters was lambasting the pledge controversy as a stunt set up by GOP candidate Joe Walsh and an example of “phony patriotism.”

So the LWV thinks reciting the Pledge of Allegiance is “phony patriotism,” eh?

Many people will insist that the subject of the Democratic National Committee’s attack ad – the one that takes pot-shots at Karl Rove, Ed Gillespie, the US Chamber of Commerce and the GOP in general – is a dead issue; that the moment in time to “slice and dice” this most egregious media hatchet job has come and gone. Nothing could be further from the truth and here’s why: This attack ad by the DNC – and John Podesta, via the Center for American Progress – makes honesty an issue in this election cycle.

Pardon me for saying so, but it is well past time that we expect honesty from not only our elected officials but from those running for office, those raising money for those running for office, the political parties – and their surrogates, and the media, the total of the media, both the new and the decrepit. We Americans have tolerated dishonest “spin” for decades and, quite honestly, we have only ourselves to blame. If we weren’t buying it, they wouldn’t be selling it.

Politico Lying about Palin Again?

Radio host Mark Levin says that Politico’s piece slamming Sarah Palin today is an outright lie, at least as far as his part in the story is concerned.

In a long piece by Jonathan Martin about how he thinks Sarah is wrecking havoc on GOP politics across the country, he says this…

According to a source familiar with the situation, she backed out of planned interviews with conservative talk-show hosts Sean Hannity and Mark Levin the morning she was scheduled to talk to them. And her multiple schedule changes so annoyed Glenn Beck that he finally decided not to have her on his radio or TV show to promote the book.

Levine says that this is flat out untrue. On his Twitter feed, Levine wrote:

This is a flat out lie. Sarah Palin never backed out of any interview with me. Period.

One wonders why Martin didn’t actually practice proper journalism and check out the claims of his “source familiar with the situation” and call Hannity and Levine and see whether or not it was true from their perspective?

So much for “journalism,” eh?

Three Observations About Iowa Attorney General Tom Miller’s Debate Against Brenna Findley

The one and only Iowa Attorney General Race debate was held yesterday at the University of Iowa Law School between Democratic incumbent Attorney General Tom Miller and Republican challenger Brenna Findley. I have read the scant coverage offered and some info that was emailed to me. I hope to watch or listen if it made available online. From what I have read I have three observations.

1. Incumbent Iowa Attorney General Tom Miller’s claim to bipartisanship is asinine.

So I guess that is why he didn’t defend our Defense of Marriage Act (which was bipartisan legislation). His bipartisanship also led him to warn county recorders about legal consequences (like getting them removed from office) if they didn’t comply with the Iowa Supreme Court’s unconstitutional order for them to commence issuing marriage licenses. Please show me the law in the Iowa Code that allows gay marriage. Also show me where in the Iowa Constitution it gives the Iowa Supreme Court the authority to administer the law.

I was shocked to read about a focus group of “Wal-Mart Moms”, a new political demographic of disappointed female voters, a significant portion whom feel sorry for President Obama. I don’t fully understand this emotion considering the aggressive passage of healthcare, cap-and-trade, so-called stimulus/takeovers and multiple expensive vacation trips for him and Michelle, but I am listening closely.

Illinois Conservatives Endorsements

About a year or so ago, young Zach Oltmanns and several of his friends created a Facebook page called Illinois Conservatives. The effort went viral locally and young Zach suddenly found himself all over TV, newspapers, and radio shows. Since then Zach has appeared at many Tea Party events and has become an in demand conservative representative. His group has gained thousands of members, too, both on Facebook and in real life in his area near Rockford, Illinois.

The group has put out a new video letting northern Illinois voters know who they support in the area.

This is a new video showing Illinois Conservative President Zach Oltmanns take on local politics. This video also shows some of the candidates we have endorsed and helped throughout the state. Local politics is so important and some local politicians try to sneak things by because they don’t think anyone is paying attention. What part of our nation’s governing document justifies Congress forcing Americans to buy something? Shakowski consistently refuses to answer this seminal question.

John Ruberry of Marathon Pundit once again asked these questions of Rep. Shakowski and, once again, she refused to answer.

Notice how these were not screamed questions, not raucous, right-wing attack dogs here? These videographers comported themselves professionally, did not name call, and asked their questions in a respectful tone. Yet Rep. Shakowski still refused to answer.

I just released two new Tax Facts videos: What if I did not get an exemption I was entitled to? and How do I file an appeal at the County Assessors Office and the Board Of Review? Let me know if you have any questions about the answers or any other question in our Ask Dan section.

Thank you for your continued support through this campaign. We are down to the last two and a half weeks. Early voting started this past Monday and ends Thursday the 28th. Election day will follow on Tuesday November 2nd. Now is the time to act. Please encourage your friends and neighbors to get out and vote early, reminding them to vote for Dan Patlak on the down ballot race for Cook County Board Of Review. Hultgren Meets With Small Business Advisory Committee

CHARLES – Randy Hultgren, Republican candidate for Congress, met with more than fifty 14th District small business owners and employees today, members of the Hultgren campaign’s Small Business Advisory Committee. The National Federation of Independent Business and U.S. Chamber of Commerce have endorsed Hultgren.

“This morning’s meeting was a great opportunity for me to hear the concerns and needs of small business owners and employers from across our district,” said Randy Hultgren. “Small business owners and employers remain deeply concerned about the alarmingly anti-business climate in Washington – the out-of-control spending, the looming tax hikes, and the uncertain regulatory climate that discourages investment and growth.

“They also know, as I do, that getting our economy moving and putting Americans back to work doesn’t require massive Washington spending programs but will instead require commonsense government. To restore economic prosperity, we need to keep taxes low and regulations reasonable, and work to reduce spending and the national debt.”
