L.A. Times Lays Groundwork to Explain Poor Obama Debate Performance

-By Warner Todd Huston

The first presidential debate is only a week away, but the L. A. Times already seems to be laying the groundwork to explain away a what could be a bad Obama performance in the contest.

In a September 26 article, L. A. Times writer Christi Parsons is already foreseeing the possibility of a rocky Obama performance and she has a reason why it might be so. Her reason why Obama may do so badly? He’s busy.

As far as Parsons is concerned, Obama is at a disadvantage for the up coming debates because he is just so darn busy being president that he has less time for debate practice than does Romney.

“President Obama has blocked out three days to prepare for the October debates, but with the constant pressures that come with one of the world’s most important jobs, aides worry he may not get enough practice at the podium,” Pasrons writes.

So, if Obama does badly, it’s not because he did badly, it’s because being president is just so gosh darn hard. It can’t be Obama’s fault, after all.

L.A. Times Still Refusing to Release Video of Obama’s Party With Radical Islamists

-By Warner Todd Huston

The L.A. Times persists in hiding from the public a 2003 video of Barack Obama attending a party for radical Islamist activist Rashid Khalidi, a video that supposedly features extreme anti-Semitic rhetoric. Yet, with criticism stinging, the Times has issued a rather feeble reason for keeping that important video secret from the American people.

They are “keeping a promise,” we are told, to protect a “confidential source.”

This is what L.A. Times VP for communications Nancy Sullivan told The Blaze this week.

In April 2008, the Los Angeles Times reported first, and in explicit detail about the dinner event and the tape of it. More than six months later, just days before the November 2008 election, the McCain Campaign demanded the public release of the tape. As we stated then, The Times did not publish the videotape because it was provided for review by a confidential source who did so on the condition that we not publish the tape itself. The Times keeps its promises to sources and nothing has changed in that regard.

Amusingly, Sullivan also said that as far as she knew, The Blaze was the only ones asking about the tape.

Obviously Sullivan is uninformed. The folks at Breitbart have offered $100,000 for a copy of that video. Are we really expected to believe Sullivan hasn’t heard of this offer?

LA Times Styles Romney the Whites Only Candidate

-By Warner Todd Huston

On June 18 the L.A. Times turned in a sly performance attempting to paint Mitt Romney as the whites only candidate in a piece headlined, “Romney, Cows and Ice Cream: Targeting Conservative, White ‘Backbone’.”

Romney is calling his current Midwest campaign stint a tour of the “backbone of America,” but it seems the Times is purposefully misconstruing that ages old saying about the Midwest, making it into a racial epithet, instead of the laudatory name it usually is, by styling it the “white backbone” of America.

The Times quickly goes on to quote partisan liberal author Ruy Teixeira, who also a senior fellow at the liberal Center for American Progress, who says that Romney is probably wasting his time on the tour because minority voters in some of the swing state he’s visiting are lost to him regardless.

Over the last 20 years, the percentage of white working-class voters in both states has dropped, while the share of minorities and white college graduates has risen, a trend apt to benefit Democrats over time, said Ruy Teixeira, a senior fellow at the liberal Center for American Progress.

Teixeira should have lost all credibility back in 2002 when he famously published a book titled, “The Emerging Democratic Majority.” In 2002 Teixeira claimed that the Republican Party was finished and the Democrats were sure to be winners for decades to come, yet Democrats have only controlled both the White House and Congress for two of the last 18 years. Further damaging his analysis, Democrats lost control of the House in 2010 in the biggest loss of seats suffered by any party in decades.

Liberal’s Tendency To Laud the Noble Savage Masking Self-Hatred?

-By Warner Todd Huston

In another one of those stories that casts ancient civilizations as somehow just as learned as we are today, the Los Angeles Times has pronounced the Ancient Mayans to be the world’s “first polymer scientists” because they knew how to mix sap from the rubber tree to create rubber balls in Mesoamerica.

Now, don’t get me wrong, it is very interesting (even exciting at some level) to realize that the ancient Mayans knew how to create rubber soled sandals, rubber balls for sports competition, and a type of glue from the sap of the rubber tree. No one can belittle that accomplishment and ingenuity. But this discovery does not make of them “polymer scientists.” It makes them clever, yes, but not scientists. This LATimes article wallows in that ridiculous tendency in western society today to mischaracterize ancient civilizations and ascribe modern characteristics or ideals to peoples from the past, ideals that simply don’t make sense.

As it happens the Mayans found that if they mixed the juice of the morning glory plant with the sap from a rubber tree in varying amounts they could get solid rubber balls, glues, and other rubber products. These formulas were a result of trial and error, certainly, but not science.

LATimes Finally Finds Graphics Like Commie Propaganda Art… And It’s Glenn Beck, NOT Obama

-By Warner Todd Huston

After the last three years of President Obama’s graphics and poster art that evokes the style of graphics used in communist propaganda someone in the Old Media has finally discovered the similarity between today’s political graphics and communist styled propaganda art. And on top of that another we see another member of the Media calling us all “tea baggers”

So which of Obama’s posters is the L.A. Times saying is like commie art? Is it the “Hope” poster where Obama stares off into the distance like a communist leader attempting to inspire confidence in the viewer? Is it one of the other many posters that position Obama in similar poses to umpteen communist posters of ages past?

Nope, it’s Glenn Beck’s Taxpayer March logo that caused the Times to finally see a similarity with communist art.

L.A.Times Still Calling it the ‘So-Called War on Terror’

-By Warner Todd Huston

In the L.A. Times on July 22, writer Catherine Lyons again revealed a bit of her Bush Derangement Syndrome by calling the war on terror a “so-called war on terror.” What is with these people that simply cannot accept terms of reality? It’s like this every time they use the word terrorism, or “terrorism” as the Old Media so often terms it, and the war on terror. The Old Media simply refuses to understand that terrorism exists, that it is a problem, and that we are at war with terrorists.

This usage of the “so-called” remark was doubly amusing because Lyons threw in her “so-called war on terror” comment into a story about U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder’s visit to a closed meeting of Muslims held in Los Angeles on July 18. Her scoffing at the war on terror seemed geared to let Muslim readers in on the fact that she didn’t believe there was terrorism or that Bush was really fighting a war on terror… wink, wink.

LATimes: Men Secretly Sympathize With Adulterers, ‘See Sanford in Mirror’

-By Warner Todd Huston

Meghan Daum of the L.A. Times has had an epiphany. The story of adulterous South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford is still in the news, she’s decided, because America’s men see themselves reflected in him. Yes, Daum apparently feels that all men are adulterers, so they sympathize with him causing the story to keep bumping along.

Daum spies some “gasp–empathy” for the governor in various corners of the Old Media and this, she has decided, must mean that there is a “tiny bit of Mark Sanford” in men across the country. One wonders if Daum spied this same lecherous “sympathy” abounding among Democrats when a certain president was wagging his finger in our faces and saying he “did not have sexual relations with that woman, Monica”?

Betcha she didn’t. As a matter of fact, I’ll bet no such thing crossed her mind as the Clinton’s Monica-gate raged on and on.

L.A.Times Has a Problem with U.S. History

-By Warner Todd Huston

… and the problem is they don’t know any of it.

The story in the L. A. Times was supposed to be a story of lighter fare, a less hectic sort of human interest story that is supposed to be interesting, but not earth shacking. It’s all about the trials and tribulations of the folks that re-create the famous Gunfight at the O.K. Corral in the dusty streets of Tombstone, Arizona.

Apparently a brash new sheriff is in town (really, I do mean the real local lawman) who has decided that the actors and reenactors that portray the original gunfight participants have gotten out of hand and need to be regulated out of existence, or at least scaled back.

We NEED a Newspaper Bailout to SAVE This Professionalism

-By Warner Todd Huston

Put Subhead HERE

The L.A. Times has always considered itself the cream of the newspaper crop in the Western U.S., the height of the industry. It is supposed to represent the best in newspaper professionalism. Papers like the L.A. Times are also held up as an example of what we don’t want to lose when supporters talk of instituting newspaper industry bailouts in the halls of Congress. Well, our friends at lies.com aren’t fooled!

With all the grave warnings of that excellence of newspapers that might be lost echoing in your ears, I offer an amusing example of that “excellence” for you today. Take a closer look at the accompanying photos of one of the pages in Friday’s print edition of the L.A. Times. Notice that the L.A. Times rushed to press before they even tipped in the subheads and photo captions and left the dummy type in its place.

Hail the professionalism of the L.A. Times.

LAT Torn: Do We Cover for Obama or Puff Pelosi? Let’s Try BOTH!

-By Warner Todd Huston

The L.A. Times took upon itself a difficult task. The chore: to make it seem like Obama is in control of Congress at the same time that Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi is still a powerhouse there. The truth of the matter is that Barack Obama has revealed little influence over the Democrat majority in the House of Representatives but the Times wants to make it seem as if Obama is firmly in charge to puff his reputation. To do that, it would have to prove that Pelosi is taking a back-seat to the president. Yet, the Times also wants to show support for Pelosi. The resulting article is filled with one contradiction after another as it ends up attempting to say that both of them are in charge of the House. Quite a few journalistic backflips were made in the effort, too.

The L.A. Times headlined its piece, “Pelosi’s role diminishes under Obama.” This headline might tend to tell the reader that Nancy Pelosi has stepped back from her iron-fisted control of the House to allow Obama to push his agenda. Yet, even as the first six paragraphs of the piece starts that way, most of the article tends to dispute both the headline and the concept that Pelosi has relinquished any control at all to the White House. In fact, it says just the opposite, that she is just as firmly in control as ever, ceding nothing to Obama.

SF Chron Reports ‘Massive’ Anti-War Protest, Completely Ignored Equally Large Cincy Tea Party

-By Warner Todd Huston

Back on March 15, Noel Sheppard noted that the San Francisco Chronicle completely ignored the thousands of average Americans that came together in Cincinnati, Ohio to protest Obama’s unprecedented take over of the US economy. The Cincinnati Tea Party truly was massive but is just one of the many dozens of Tea Party protests that have occurred — and are continuing to occur — all across the country in the last two months. Still, the SF Chronicle didn’t see any reason to cover the rally.

But never fear for the Chronicle does enjoy a good protest, nonetheless. As long as it’s of a leftist, anti-war flavor, of course. Witness the Chron’s coverage of the “Massive anti-war, anti-Wall Street protest in San Francisco” from this weekend, March 21.

LATimes Claims GOP ‘Uneasy’ About Rush, Yet Offers no Proof

-By Warner Todd Huston

The L.A. Times published a story on February 9 that states that “the GOP” is “uneasy” about Rush’s “self-coronation” as the voice of Republicans. But, after reading the story one realizes that it does not really prove the claim. In fact, only one person is quoted mentioning Rush at all. The rest of the story is but the Times’ conjecture and the claims of “some” and “experts” but nothing that convinces that any segment of the GOP, large or small, is “uneasy” about Rush.

Instead of a story detailing those uneasy about Rush, it seems far more as if what we have here is the L.A.Times trying to create the very “uneasiness” it claims to be reporting upon.

L.A.Times Featuring Complaining Immigrants Praising Obama

-By Warner Todd Huston

Reading Sandy Banks’ column in the L.A. Times we are supposed to feel optimistic. But, instead of optimism, all one can see is complaints about the USA coming from the immigrants in Washington D.C. that Banks ran across during her inaugural week visit. Instead of uplift, we see Banks celebrating the fact that these people feel that the USA is a bad place, has failed them, or is not what it’s cracked up to be. So, where is the “profound message” that Banks found in DC?

Why it’s that these same immigrants think Obama will remake the US into something better for them, naturally. You see, Banks agrees with these immigrants that the USA is a bad place and that The One will wipe away our sins and re-invent this nation into something it wasn’t. Banks isn’t celebrating the USA with her “profound message” but celebrating its recreation into something different.

LA Times Celebrates Communist ‘Art’ Show

-By Warner Todd Huston

So, picture this… you are a refugee from the fall of Saigon, or, after it fell and in the midst of the many millions murdered by the communist oppressors that overtook the country in the 70s and 80s, you were lucky enough to escape with your life. Let’s say you finally move to California to enjoy a communist free life in the United States. Paradoxically, though, there you encounter a newspaper that scolds you and says that you are just a fearmonger for getting upset that there is a communist art show in your new community. And all the while you know that millions of your countrymen were murdered by the same communists that this paper, the L.A. Times, wants you to celebrate in art.

Would you get a tad upset? I think you might. Yet the L.A. Times thinks you should rather be interested in breaking “taboos,” having “open dialog” and to stop “the fear.” You should not get so gosh darned all upset at the commie art show. YOU are at fault here, not the commies.

LATimes Prints Hamas Terrorist’s Op Ed

-By Warner Todd Huston

Amazingly, on January 6, the L. A. Times gave ample space to a Hamas terrorist to “explain” how the current Gaza action is all Israel’s fault. Mousa Abu Marzook the purported “deputy of the political bureau of Hamas,” the group called an “Islamic Resistance Movement,” shamefacedly claims that Israel’s actions shattered “any incentive by Palestinian leaders to enforce the moratorium on rocket fire.”

First of all, these Palestinian “leaders” have for the last seven years now expended little effort to stop the incessant rocket fire into Israel to which he so blithely refers. So I don’t know who this Marzook fellow is trying to kid? I suppose he’s trying to kid the L.A.Times and it seems they have fallen for it.

The truce thus shattered, any incentive by Palestinian leaders to enforce the moratorium on rocket fire was gone. Any extension of the agreement or improvement of its implementation at that point would have required Israel to engage Hamas, to agree to additional trust-building measures and negotiation with our movement — a political impossibility for Israel, with its own elections only weeks away.

Israel has been trying to engage in “trust-building” with the various and sundry Palestinian groups for decades. It is the Palestinians that have steadfastly maintained that Israel has no right to even exist. How is it that “trust-building” can occur when one side simply wants the other dead?

L.A.Times: Conservatives Should Stop Complaining About Media, They Have Killed ‘Truth’

-By Warner Todd Huston

This has to rank as the all time most hypocritical piece I’ve yet seen featuring liberal finger waging at conservatives over their ire at the product of the leftist press. It is conservatives, you see, that have “have put the final nail in the coffin of truth,” in essence killing the truth, not the left for doing its level best to eliminate the entire concept of truth. It is our fault for pointing out the liberal’s efforts to destroy truth not theirs for having launched the campaign. How’s THAT for spin?

The Times’ Gregory Rodriguez gives us this convoluted logic in “When all truth is relative Conservatives play a dangerous game in attacking the media for bias” from September 29. In it, Rodriguez acknowledges that it is the left and our fetid universities that launched a campaign early last century to make truth relative or situational. But, instead of focusing on this illicit attack on truth, Rodriguez blames those pointing out the folly of relativity for causing what he sees as the downfall of truth. Yes, it’s the watchdogs’ fault, not the perpetrators!

I say, if you want truth, the truth is Rodriguez isn’t mad that the truth has been harmed, he’s mad that HIS “truth” has a dissenting voice against it.

LATimes Brooks Thinks Russia/Georgia War is Funny

-By Warner Todd Huston

The L.A. Times’ Rosa Brooks has done it again, taken a serious subject and made an uninformed romp of it. One wonders how the old Georgian lady seen in news photos standing wounded among the ruins of her apartment building, or the Georgian Mother running down the street, infant in her arms, trying to escape Russian tanks might feel about the humor with which Brooks brings to bear upon their plight? But, there it is for all to see in Brooks’ “The Cold War, reheated” wherein Brooks puts the funny back in war. It’s been too serious for too long for Brooks, apparently. We need the sunny side of ethnic cleansing, brutal invasion, and crushing occupation, don’t we?

Oh, and let’s not forget the skewed history, incorrect conclusions, and partisan inanities that Brooks blurted out with her little attempt at “Springtime for Gorbachev.” Only with this production, Brooks is seriously trying to absolve the U.S.S.R.

L.A.Times’ Ridiculous Links: ‘2 Obama Backers Hospitalized’

L.A.Times’ Ridiculous Links: ‘2 Obama Backers Hospitalized’
-By Warner Todd Huston

The L.A.Times’ Andrew Malcolm is so over come by Obamamania that he sees connections to his messiah everywhere, even in hospitals separated by hundreds of miles, from patients admitted days apart, with maladies and injuries that are completely dissimilar. And not just with ordinary everyday patients in those hospitals, but with two star studded actors who ended up in hospitals, one in Chicago and one in Tennessee. And guess what? They are both… gasp… OBAMA SUPPORTERS. Yes, I know how shocking it is that two actors can be admitted to hospitals after donating money to the Barack Obama campaign. After all, the mere fact that they gave the messiah money should have been enough of a talisman to have protected them at least until the elections, wouldn’t ya think? I mean, isn’t their messiah letting them down here?

Malcolm’s tenuous connections between these two actors and Obama only serves to highlight his own obsession because the hospital stays of the two actors have absolutely no relation to each other. Actor Morgan Freeman was admitted to a Memphis, Tennessee hospital on August 4 suffering injuries from a car accident near his Mississippi home. Actor and comedian Bernie Mac was admitted to a Chicago, Illinois hospital on August 2 suffering from pneumonia.

So, what is the Obama connection? They both gave money to Obama’s campaign. That’s it. They just gave money. There is no other connection between Freeman and Mac and Barack Obama.
