GOP Head Steele Withdrawing Kirk Support?

-By Warner Todd Huston

Tom Roeser recently wrote that National GOP Party Chairman Michael Steele is stepping back from his Kirk-only support now that Patrick Hughes’ campaign for U.S. Senate has started to make inroads into Kirk’s Illinois support base.

This is interesting news, if it turns out to be true. One of the things that has riled me, for one, is that the national party has swooped in to pick our candidate for us here in Illinois. I am all for the national party supporting our Illinois candidate for Senate but it would be a tad better if the party waited until we the actual voters of Illinois had the opportunity to chose our own candidate first.

Kirk Lambastes Obama Over Missile Shield Policy Change

-By Warner Todd Huston

Mark Kirk may not be on the right side of economics, abortion, the homosexual lobby, and a host of other issues, but he is 100% right on his position that President Obama is wrong with his decision to reverse course on the European missile shield.

On Thursday morning, after Obama’s announcement of the missile shield policy change Kirk came out swinging against the president saying that “History is not kind to leaders who sacrifice our Polish allies.” Kirk went on:

Illinois Republican Representative Mark Kirk called the president’s decision a blow to Poland and an encouragement to Iran.

“Iran, a state sponsor of terrorists, now makes the longest-range missile of the terrorist world,” said Mark Kirk. “The administration’s decision is particularly ironic because Poland just announced it would be sending more troops to serve alongside Americans in Afghanistan. America is going to let Poland down, sending a message of weakness to our Polish allies and the people building Iran’s new missile arsenal.”

Kirk is right on with this. Obama has bent over backwards to appease our enemies in Russia and has opened the door for the proto-Soviet Putin to begin to bully surrounding democratic states without fear of a weak Obama crossing him. Obama has abandoned our Eastern European allies with this horrible decision.

Sadly, it appears that every time a Democrat becomes president, no ally can be sure of American support afterward. Democrats simply can be trusted with neither our foreign policy nor our security.

Gorman For Re-Election to Cook County Board

-By Warner Todd Huston

Cook County Commissioner Liz Gorman (R-17th District) is seeking re-election to her seat on the Cook County Board.

After she announced her support for an anti-nepotism ordnance, Gorman announced her bid for re-election.

“This is an opportunity for Cook County to lead the way in ethics reform. How about that?” said Gorman, of Orland Park. “This is a transparency issue … about adding sunshine, and it’s getting so bright here you’ve got to wear shades.”

Gorman, meanwhile, announced she’ll formally declare her campaign for re-election in the 17th District, which covers the western edge of Cook County from the southwest to the northwest suburbs, at an event at 6 p.m. Thursday at Sam Maguire’s in Orland Park. U.S. Rep. Mark Kirk, Republican U.S. Senate candidate, is expected to attend.

Burris, Jackson of Illinois Rated Nation’s ‘Most Corrupt’

-By Warner Todd Huston

Illinois wins another dubious distinction due to our corrupt Democratic political culture this week. Senator Roland Burris and Representative Jesse Jackson, Jr. have been rated among the nation’s most corrupt officials by the often left-leaning Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics based in Washington D. C.

Both Jackson and Burris are currently under investigation for their roles in Governor’s Rod Blagojevich’s selling of Obama’s former Senate seat last year.

CREW reports why Burris made the list: “Sen. Burris, by deliberately lying to senators about the conversations he had with Gov. Blagojevich and others connected to the governor in order to be appointed to a seat in the Senate, clearly engaged in improper conduct reflecting upon the Senate.”

Jackson is on the list for the same reason.

Capitol Fax: McKenna/Murphy is ON!

-By Warner Todd Huston

At the Capitol Fax Blog, Rich Miller saysthey have confirmed that former State GOP Chair Andy McKenna is throwing his hat into the rign for the 2010 race for governor.

It seems set that currently announced GOP hopeful Matt Murphy (R- Palatine) will drop his bid for Guv and run for the number two slot on a pseudo ticket with McKenna. (I say pseudo because gov. and lt. gov. candidates do not run as a ticket in Ill., for those unaware.)

Miller says that the two men have met and made the bargain.

Kirk Suddenly a “No” on Cap and Tax?

-By Warner Todd Huston

Rep. Mark Kirk (R, IL) has been getting hammered by conservatives and moderate Republicans alike for his “yes” vote on the Cap and Trade bill. But at a recent appearance Kirk suddenly said he now intends to vote against the disastrous bill.

The Obama administration admits that the Cap and Trade legislation will cost every American family and additional $1,761 a year and likely that is on the low side. Conservatives have slammed Kirk for supporting this economy killing carbon emissions capping legislation.

On the 5th at a suburban rally, Kirk announced his switcheroo amidst many loud boos and catcalls. “About cap and trade: I voted for it because it was in the narrow interests of my congressional district. But as your representative, representing the entire state of Illinois, I will vote ‘No’ on that bill coming up.”

Well, this sure seems like an opportunistic flip flop, doesn’t it? Now that he’s running for Senate he’s found that his cap and tax “yes” vote is proving to be an impediment to his campaign and suddenly he finds his principles again?

I guess Kirk should be congratulated for finally coming to his senses and actually representing his constituents’ desires, but the fact that he thought he could make a dash for the cash (he voted cap and tax because of donations by enviro-nazi groups) without bothering with principle or representing his constituents in the first place marks him as an opportunist of the worst sort.

Kirk’s reversal is at the three minute, ten second mark in the video:

Ill. Dem Refuses to Vote On Joe Wilson Admonishment

-By Warner Todd Huston

Well, this is an interesting turn of events. Representative Bill Foster (14th District, D, Batavia) decided not to vote “yes” to admonish Joe Wilson in the House of Representatives this week.

Instead of taking a stand to admonish or not to admonish, he decided to cast a “present” vote. Foster said he didn’t vote to admonish Wilson — like most of his fellow Democrats did — because it detracts from serious business. “Congress has better things to do at this time,” Foster said.

The rest of the Illinois Democrats voted “yes” to admonish Rep. Joe Wilson (R, SC) for yelling “you lie” during the president’s healthcare speech in an apparent violation of House conduct rules.

Mark Kirk Aiding Pro-Homosexual Lobby?

Another One For 14th District? Come on, guys, This is Getting Ridiculous

-By Warner Todd Huston

The GenevaSun is reporting that longtime state pol Randy Hultgren is going to run for Denny Hastert’s old 14th District Congressional seat.

Hultgren is currently the State Rep for the 48th District and also served as the state rep for the 95th District.

If Hultgren makes it official he will join four other Republican candidates for the office. I sure hope that the party can get this field winnowed down because we risk spreading ourselves too thin leaving the Democrats able to overpower the GOP if we have more than one candidate all the way to the election.

Biver Says Hughes Over Kirk for U.S. Senate

-By Warner Todd Huston

John Biver seems to have come out endorsing GOP Senate candidate Patrick Hughes over Mark Kirk today. Biver is the editor of ChampionNews.net, a conservative organization out of Cook County. (Hughes’ campaign website.)

Biver says that Hughes is “the best chance conservatives have in the Republican primary for the U.S. Senate,” and that he came away impressed after meeting the candidate in person.

He’s a platform-supporting Republican, and just as important, he gives every indication that he understands what ails the Illinois and Washington, D.C. Republican political system. His chief opponent, Mark Kirk, exemplifies everything that’s wrong with our Party here in Illinois and in our nation’s capital.

Biver warns that as we approach the peak campaigning days, the several candidates had better take some time to assess their chances and decide what is best for the party as opposed to what strokes their egos.

Responsible Taxation: Jeff Danklefsen Seeks Haster’s Old 14th Dist. Seat

-By Warner Todd Huston

Political newcomer Jeff Danklefsen has announced his intention to seek the GOP nomination for the 14th District Congressional seat, the one once held by Speaker of the House Denny Hastert.

Mr. Danklefsen is a twelve-year resident of Geneva and seems to have been driven to run for Congress by his involvement in the Kane County Tea Party movement. He has no “political resume,” but says he’s ready to lead.

I do not have a political resume, but I understand the challenges families face with increasing tax burdens and the uncertainty of the job market. I am asking for the opportunity to represent the 14th District taxpayers in Washington D.C. I will stand up for responsible taxation, a balanced budget, and job growth.

The central message on Danklefsen’s website is that of the fiscal irresponsibility of Speaker Pelosi and her Democrat comrades including current 14th District Congressman Bill Foster.

Danklefsen joins several other GOP hopefuls seeking the nomination.

  • Ethan Hastert, son of former Speaker Dennis Hastert (FaceBook page)
  • Iraq Reconstruction Worker Mark Vargas of Elgin (FaceBook page)
  • Former Aurora councilman and businessman Bill Cross — not yet announced

Illinois Conservative Summit, Full Report

-By Warner Todd Huston

As mentioned in the earlier post, I was invited to cover the Illinois Conservative Summit sponsored by the United Republican Fund of Illinois.

The URF is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year and is Illinois’ oldest, independent, conservative GOP organization. The URF’s charge is to advance conservative policies and principles by supporting candidates that will advance limited government, individual rights, free enterprise, and traditional values.

Today’s forum is a Q and A session with six Republican candidates for governor where a set of four fixed questions and one candidate specific question was asked each candidate. Each candidate got 20 minutes for the whole session and were warned that they’d be cut off if they tried to filibuster. At the end a 9-question “lightening round” where the candidates were to offer short answers was given each candidate. I have to say that only one candidate came close to going over and even he had basically answered all the questions etc. so all the candidates were kind enough to stay within the 20 minutes time span (Only Kirk Dillard went on long enough during his opening statements that he wasn’t able to answer all the “lightening round” questions). The candidates were presented in alphabetical order.

**Straw Poll Results at the end of this report**

Among those in the Audience were several GOP notables some of whom were:

Illinois Conservative Summit Report

-By Warner Todd Huston

I am currently sitting in Carlucci’s Restaurant in Downer’s Grove, Ill. to listen to six Republican candidates for the GOP nomination for Illinois governor.

What we have will be each of the six candidates coming before the host and answering a series of questions about their campaign and what they’ll do for the state if elected.

They will appear in alphabetical order. But, one thing will hamper me a tad. There is a ban on live blogging because the candidates don’t want to have their answers sent out onto the Internet before the net guy goes on for his session.

This is a perfectly logical request. I, for one, don’t want to be responsible for accidentally helping a candidate come off better than he should because I leaked what his opponents had said.

So, I will have a full report when this is done.

The candidates we will hear from are (in order of appearance):

Adam Andrzejewski
Bill Brady
Kirk Dillard
Matt Murphy
Dan Proft
Bob Schillerstrom

As I said, I’ll have a full report later on today.

Obama Thanks The Tanks, Media Was ‘Gracious’ For Barack

-By Warner Todd Huston

**Update** I’ve Been Scolded…

It’s always nice to see someone thank another for their hard work, isn’t it? Well, here at the end of this long, long presidential campaign (it’s been going on since 2004 for Barack and the Old Media, after all), Barack Obama has thanked his fellow campaign members in the Old Media for their hard work as they’ve fronted for him, pushed for him, and willingly dived straight in the tank for him.

AFP has the story of The One allowing the press to kiss his ring one more time. Barack even deigned to make a rare appearance in the back of the campaign plane among his “gracious” sycophants in the press.

Franklin County, Ohio Vote 2008: Final Report

-By Warner Todd Huston

Well, my final assessment for the voting in Franklin County, Ohio (in the capitol city of Ohio, Columbus) is… everything went smoothly for the most part.

I visited half a dozen different precincts in the city and what was striking was the low numbers of voters throughout. Even into the 6PM hour the crowds were low. Only the early morning saw the numbers a little higher with up to two hours wait, but only for a short time.

There is one major reason for this: early voting. For some ridiculous reason, Franklin County had early voting all the way until midnight on the 3rd. Then, the polls opened for regular voting at 6:30 on the 4th. This took a tremendous number of voters away from voting on the actual election-day.

The Most Fraudulent Election Ever

-By The Heritage Foundation

According to federal election law, any presidential campaign that participates in public financing is automatically audited after an election. When Barack Obama broke his promise to the American people by forgoing the public financing system, his campaign became the first since public financing became law to have a chance of not being audited. Federal law does still allow the Federal Election Commission to audit a presidential campaign that doesn’t participate in public financing, but at least four of the six FEC commissioners must first vote to pursue an investigation “for cause.” No doubt there is great “cause” to be concerned about Obama’s fundraising efforts.

Late last month, the venerable and independent National Journal tested reports that the Obama campaign’s online fundraising system was built to facilitate fraud. Veteran journalist Neil Munro bought two pre-paid American Express gift cards worth $25 each to donate to the Obama and McCain campaigns online. Munro purchased the cards with cash and then accessed the Obama and McCain campaign websites from a public library in Fairfax, Va. The Obama campaign’s site accepted the $25 donation, but the McCain campaign’s site rejected it . Contacted by National Journal, the McCain campaign explained its system rejected the donation because American Express could not verify that the donor lived at the address given with the online contribution.

100,000 Georgians Also Registered to Vote in Ohio, Other States

-By Warner Todd Huston

Action 2 News WSB TV Atlanta took the entire month of August to look over the voter roles and discovered 100,000 Georgians registered to vote in Georgia and other states. They also found at least three voters that voted in Georgia as well as another state. (see video)

The News 2 report reminds us all that there is no national data base so that the various states can purge their voter lists of citizens that no longer live in a previous state yet have re-registered in their new state.

After this election the states need to get together and compare voter roles. It is so easy to game the system it’s unbelievable.

Ohio: Absentee Ballots With Errors To be Sent Back to Voters

-By Warner Todd Huston

Ohio Sec. of State Jennifer Brunner has ruled that any absentee ballots with errors sent in from Franklin County will cause the voter to be notified after election-day. An estimated 5,000 Franklin County residents who cast ballots with errors will be effected.

Last night, Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner issued a directive ordering counties to notify Ohioans who forgot to sign the envelope, used the wrong number from their driver’s license or made other simple mistakes and give them a chance to correct the defects by Nov. 14.

Franklin County was one County that had stopped processing ballots with errors.

Ohio: My Second Precinct Visit

-By Warner Todd Huston

My second visit today was at Franklin County’s Precinct 17. At 11AM the place had but a handful of voters. As the polls opened the poll workers tell me that the wait never got longer than 2 hours and even that didn’t last long.

We have to remember here that Franklin County didn’t even close down the “early” voting until last night! So, it is looking like the large number that voted “early” over the last few days helped lighten the load today. We’ll have to see what happens a little later this evening.

There were a gaggle of Obama workers near precinct 17 and when a new voter walked up they’d run over near the entrance to give out Democrat sample ballots., but their station was far eoungh away from the entrance to satisfy law.

Naturally, there were Obama/Biden signs everywhere you turned. There was even a fellow handing out sample Democratic ballots. He was wearing a T-Shirt advertising for John A. Connor for the Court of Appeals.

I voted last Monday

-By Daniel Williamson, Buckeyerino.wordpress.com

I voted during the early voting period last Monday, a week ago from today.

Should I thank Ohio Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner for an atmosphere simultaneously conducive to both vote fraud and vote suppression? Or, was what I witnessed solely the creation of the Erie County Board of Elections? Rumblings from various parts of the state suggest that the integrity of Ohio’s election systems are being questioned beyond just Erie County.

Check out this Cuyahoga County story about thousands of dead voters told by the television reporters at Cleveland’s Newsnet 5.

For even more news on the topic of election fraud, I recommend a visit to Vote Fraud Squad. They have a clearinghouse of such stories at their site.

Ohio Vote Fraud: The Dead Voting In Cleveland

-By Warner Todd Huston

Every election the TV news folks in Cleveland run stories about dead people voting. Usually, they note that these registrations are mere clerical errors. Often times they are right, too. Let’s face it, government rarely works well. But this year TV5 in Cleveland has found at least one dead voter that is voting as a result of fraud, not just government incompetence… even though the TV report doesn’t focus properly on the fact.

Despite having passed away in 1993, TV5 discovered that Alex Holmes, Sr. voted in the past primary elections. Holmes’ son also voted properly in the primaries, so TV5 notes that this is obviously not a clerical error.

TV5 goes on to discuss the dead voting in its report, but after the fist few sentences, the curious case of Alex Holmes, Sr. voting disappears from the story.

But, here is the thing. Obviously someone took this deceased man’s identity and voted in Cleveland. Cleveland is in Cuyahoga County, hotbed of ACORN vote fraud efforts. TV5 noted that “13,000 dead voters registered in Cuyahoga County” for the 2006 elections and that was before the monstrously illegal efforts of ACORN in the county.

Arab Paper: ‘Obama’s Historic Intifada’ Allows Islam to ‘Impose its Point of View on World’

-By Warner Todd Huston

From Beirut, Chawki Freiha reports* on a provocative editorial that appeared in the Al Quds Al Arabi newspaper on November 3 written by Abdelbari Atwan, the first journalist to have met with Osama bin Laden. Titled “Obama’s Historic Intifada,” Atwan praises the probable election of Barack Obama to the White House and claims that with Obama installed in Washington, Islam will be able to “impose its point of view” on the world.

As to be expected, Atwan’s editorial decries the Bush administration because it is “controlled by Zionists… whose objective is to destroy the Arab world and Islam.” Displaying true Muslim conspiratorial thinking, Atwan further claims that all Middle Eastern countries have been under the control Israel, even though the Arabs have the “largest wealth” in the world in petrodollars.

The most alarming part of Atwan’s editorial, however, is that he imagines that with a President Obama in office, Islam will be able to use its oil wealth to control the world.

John Fund on ACORN’s Ohio Vote Fraud

-By Warner Todd Huston

Wall Street Journal mainstay, Jon Fund, has been doing yeoman’s work on vote fraud for years. His work is always not to be missed and today at Politico, Fund has a piece headlined Falsified registrations become votes. It’s another great piece.
Fund’s piece takes us on a discovery of vote fraud across the country, so it is a must read. But, since we are chiefly interested in Ohio, here is the relevant bit:

There are already documented examples of fraudulent registrations being converted into fraudulent votes in Ohio, where ACORN and other groups were active. Darrell Nash, an ACORN registration worker, submitted an illegal form for himself and then cast a paper ballot during the state’s “early voting” period.

Franklin County prosecutor Ron O’Brien also cracked down in the case of 13 out-of-state registrants who came to Ohio to register voters in Columbus for the group Vote From Home. The group all lived out of the same rented 1,175-square-foot house in Ohio, registered to vote and then most of them either cast early voting ballots or submitted applications for absentee ballots before leaving the state. They have agreed to have all of their ballots canceled in exchange for the prosecutor’s decision not to file charges.

The Columbus Dispatch reported last month that “none of them seems to have ties to Ohio” — and apparently had no intention of staying there. One has even moved back to England, where he is a student. It is illegal in almost all states to vote somewhere that is not your permanent residence.

Ohio Pizza Joint Supplies Free Pizza to Voters… But Who’s Paying This Bill?
