It’s a career move that has some local opponents not so happy tonight. Representative Dave winters withdrew his name from the race for lieutenant governor.

After spending three months campaigning for Lt.Governor of Illinois.. State Representative, Dave winters is dropping out of the race and instead will run for re –election

“The ground really changed when senator Matt Murphy announced he would be running for Lt. Governor” said Winters during a press conference

State Senator Murphy of Palatine gave up his fight for Governor last week to potentially serve as gubernatorial candidate Andy McKenna”s running mate.

“I thought he was the strongest of the Gubernatorial candidates and when he stepped down, I realized what this part needs is to find a great candidate and get behind him” said Winters

Winters’ endorsement isn’t the only change in campaign strategy. Jim Thompson, Vice chairman of Winnebago County’s Republican Party, just announced he won’t go up against Winters and is pulling out of the race for State Representative

“I do not intend to submit my petitions to Springfield and I hope that those who signed those petitions will now sign Daves” said Thompson

Candidate John Cabello says winters’ decision does not affect his plans to run for the 68Th district. and is disappointed someone who once supported him is backing down.

“I was given his word that he was not going to do this” he said

Cabello says even though his supporters are energized by Sunday’s announcement. He was surprised by winter’s move.

” I was thinking that he was leaning more towards supporting me then anyone else” said Cabello.
