Quinn Abolishes Wasteful Office of Education

Well, finally our Illinois governor did something I agree with. Pat Quinn abolished a state funded office. If only this wasn’t the first and likely the last time he’ll do such a thing.
On Sunday, Quinn signed an order to abolish the state office of education, a complete waste of money, an office from which former Superintendent Charles Flowers embezzled over $400,00 to fill his pockets.
The agency did nothing of use, really, at least nothing that other agencies couldn’t easily do instead and that is precisely what will now happen. Duties this useless office performed will go back where they belong.

Fake Mich. ‘Tea Party’: Another Example of How Democrats Fight Dirty

Every Democrat I know likes to act as if it were the GOP that fights dirty. Of course, every time I ask them for an example they just stare back blankly at me — I know, it’s their normal state, but this question gets particular blankness. On the other hand, I can give reams of evidence of the left doing all it can to win by hook or crook, and it’s usually crook. From ACORN, to constant use of the race card, to changing rules in the middle of the game both at a local level as well as a federal level, as well as the leftist’s prosaic hypocrisy of double standards, we can all name a dirty trick from the left. Well, as if you needed another one, there is a new dirty trick being perpetrated by the left in the great state of Michigan.
There a Democrat Party group is registering a “new” party that its calling the “Tea Party.” Yeah, imagine that! Where do you think they got the idea for the name, eh?
Over at OutsideLansing.com we find that a Democrat connected petition management firm has been deployed with petitions to “organize one new state political party.” It is being called the Tea Party.

Illinois ‘Independent’ Lt. Gov. Candidate Full of Beans

Remember the toothless “Coffee Party USA” effort, the astroturf effort created by Obama operative Annabel Park? Remember that supposed “non-partisan” effort to get folks involved in the political debate that was created by Democrat operatives? Yeah, that one. Well, we have another example of that faux “independent” spirit popping up here in Chicago with the choice of a Lt. Gov. running mate made by independent Gubernatorial candidate Scott Lee Cohen.
On Monday, Cohen chose Baxter Swilley, his former campaign manager, as his running mate for Lt. Governor. Paradoxically, Cohen said of Swilley, “He wasn’t my first choice, but he’s the best choice.”
For his part, Swilley claims to be just as independent as Cohen (read outside the Democrat Party). But this couldn’t be farther from the truth as all his experience is inside the Democrat Party as a lobbyist and insider operator. Tom Mannis at Chicago News Bench had a pretty good summary of Swilley’s Chicago Democrat resume back in March. In fact, he was even the organizer of a Chicago “Coffee Party” event. From John Ruberrry reminded us all of Mannis post revealing Swilley’s coffee party connection. “It’s a ticket that is full of beans,” scoffed Ruberry.

Currently the U.S. spends twice as much, as a percentage of GDP, than other industrialized nations on health care, while an estimated 45 million people are uncovered. At a time when our nation’s debt exceeds $12 trillion, H.R. 3950 provides the most significant deficit reduction in more than a decade. According to the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office, this bill cuts our federal deficit by $1.3 trillion over 20 years…”
Firstly, we know of no economist, actuary or accountant in the private sector that would ever attempt to score the cost of a piece of legislation (certainly one of this size) out over a 20 year period and we’ve already exposed the “fuzzy math” used by this administration to hide the REAL cost of this legislation. President Harry Truman’s famous words apply perfectly to the scoring of this legislation. He said : “Those who do not know history are doomed to repeat it. In 1965 the Fed projected that costs for Medicare Part A would be $9 Billion. It ended up costing $67 BILLION! The Medicaid special hospital subsidy was supposed to cost $100 MILLION. Instead the real cost was $11 BILLION! That’s ONE HUNDRED TIMES GREATER!

CBS News decided that if certain aspects of the race for Illinois Senate between Republican Mark Kirk and Democrat Alexi “The Mob Banker” Giannoulias threaten to make news, why the good folks at CBS Channel 2 News will just refuse to cover it.
I have to say, I find it interesting that CBS News has decided what it will deign to cover and what it won’t. I am wondering if the rest of us hoi polloi were to chose that track at our places of employment. Don’t like mowing a lawn, cleaning a toilet, doing that boring expense report, talking to the boss… well, follow the Channel 2 method and just refuse to do that part of your job!

Republican Leads to Take Obama’s Old Senate Seat, Could ALL The Dem Leaders Fall?

Rasmussen is reporting that GOP candidate Mark Kirk is currently leading Democrat Alexi “the Mob Banker” Giannoulias in the race for Barack Obama’s Illinois Senate seat but his isn’t the only one.
Kirk now attracts 46% support in Illinois’ race for the U.S. Senate, up from 41% in early April. Support for Giannoulias is at 38%, virtually unchanged from the previous survey but down from March, when he earned 44% of the vote. Five percent (5%) currently support some other candidate, and 12% are undecided.
Ouchie. Do you think it would be possible for a Republican (even one as liberal as Mark Kirk) to beat the Democrat’s official replacement offered for Obama’s Illinois seat? If a Republican took the president’s old senate seat, this would be momentous.
And maybe the GOP could hope for a hat trick — or better — of Demo smack downs.

Scott Lee Cohen Runs for Ill. Gov. as Independent

Well, it seems to be official. Former Democrat Lt. Gov. primary winner, Scott Lee Cohen, is running for governor as an independent.
Cohen told Fox News that he is “tired of waste and mismanagement” in Illinois government. and that is why he’s running. He told the media that he may not be perfect, but he’s been honest with the people.
Cohen needs to get 25,000 signatures on his petition by June 21 to have his name added to the ballot.
It ought to be interesting, eh?

Andy Stern: Union Chief Fleeing Ahead of Illinois Indictment?

Until recently, Andy Stern was the President of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), a union that has served as one of President Obama’s biggest donors as well as filling the ranks of his ground troops. In a surprise move, Stern resigned his post this month and no one is really sure why at this point.
Andy Stern has been one of the closest union chiefs to a president in history. Along with SEIU treasurer Anna Burger, he was one of the most frequent visitors to the White House. He was even chosen by President Obama to serve on his Deficit Reduction Commission — a sort of contradiction in terms that.
Upon his resignation, it has been learned that Andy Stern’s leadership of the SEIU has not brought financial solvency. As F. Vincent Vernuccio reports in the Washington Times, Stern has left the SEIU in pretty shabby shape.

A few days ago, we pondered the amusing possibility of Scott Lee Cohen running for Illinois Governor as an independent. Wouldn’t it be hilarious if this fellow ran for governor after being kicked off the Democrat ticket?
Well it is beginning to look like Cohen really is looking to run for governor as an independent. Now a spokesman for Michael Madigan is saying that Cohen told the party bigwigs that he does, indeed, want to run for governor as a lt.
This would be awful fun if it came to pass. But I warn everyone about Cohen. He seems awfully flakey. Don’t be surprised if Cohen flakes out and decides he “never said he’d run.”
I don’t think we can trust this guy to really commit.

Feds Shut Down Dem. Sen. Candidate Giannoulias’ Family Owned Bank

The Democrat’s Illinois Senate candidate, Alexi Giannoulias, has seen his family business stripped away from them and placed in the hands of a new owner (MB Financial) because he and his family could not come up with the $85 million needed to shore up falling liquidity.
Banking regulators seized the Giannoulias’ Broadway Bank this evening and placed it in the hands of MB Bank, a bank with branches throughout the Chicagoland area.
Alexi Giannoulias was the bank’s chief lender and vice-president from 2002 to 2006. He has been criticized for working for the bank when it loaned $20 million to Michael “Jaws” Giorongo and reputed mobster Boris Stratievsky. Giannoulias’ family has also been attacked for taking $70 million in dividends in both 2007 and 2008 as the bank’s loans were going bad.

Did the President lie? Blago thinks so. Rod Blagojevich’s team asked the court to issue a rial subpoena to President Obama to get him to answer some key questions in Blagojevich’s trial. The ex-guv is accused of attempting to sell Obama’s vacant Senate seat.
The motion was made public but was supposed to have been heavily redacted. Unfortunately for the prosecution, the computer file released to the press was easily restored to an un-redacted state through simple computer features. So, here is the un-redacted subpoena:

Last weekend, Senate President John Cullerton (D) got himself in a bit of hot water… or rather his son got him in hot water. As we reported earlier, sonny boy got himself pulled over for drunk driving. That wasn’t the big problem, though. The big problem is that the junior sir drinksalot was driving a state owned SUV that is supposed to be used only for official state business. Yet here was the youngster flying around town, drunk twice past the legal limit, and driving a state owned vehicle.
So, have you had enough of a state government that allows drunken frat boys to use state owned vehicles to do their carousing in when the state is $12 billion in debt and climbing.

Could it be? Could Scott Lee Cohen be roaring back to politics so soon after being thrown off the Democrat ticket in disgrace?
I don’t know about you, but this blogger is crossing his fingers and toes in hopes that it could be true. Oh, LORDY make it true. I mean, why not, eh? What fun it would be.
For those that don’t quite remember the dim days so long ago last February, Scott Lee Cohen won the Democrat primary to take the Lt. Gov. spot on the Dem. Ticket. But no sooner was he celebrating his big win when the Chicago Old Media finally started to research candidate Cohen only to discover that he had all sorts of unsavory legal and criminal allegations in his past. There was the beating he gave his prostitute girlfriend, the assault with a knife… well, let’s just say that things were a bit messy in his recent past. Once the Dems found out about his past the whole Democrat establishment rose up to demand that Cohen quit his campaign for Lt. Gov.
Well, as he headed for the door Cohen promised that he’d try for office again someday. Apparently, he’s considering that someday should be today. Several sources are reporting that Cohen would like to run for Governor as an independent this year.

Blago-a-go-go: Suckin’ Up to Da Man

In the ongoing Blago-a-go-go, the sage of the Governor whose aborted attempts to sell a U.S. Senate seat for money, profit and high falutin’ job opportunities for himself and his family, we see ex-Governor Rod Blagojevich taking a little time out from his busy radio and TV star schedule to visit the court rooms of the Richard J. Daley building in beautiful downtown Chicago.
Blago has been yelling from the rooftops that the prosecution should “play all the tapes” to prove that he, Blago, is innocent as the driven snow. Today Judge James B. Zagel (Reagan appointee, 1987) shot down Blago’s demands and said that he is the one that will determine what tapes will be played and what won’t.
“I will not allow the time of these jurors to be needlessly consumed,” Zagel said. Zagel also scolded Blago saying he would not allow any “legal head butts” to take place in his courtroom.

Ill. State Senate Prez’ Son in DUI Driving State Owned Vehicle

The son of Illinois State Senate President John Cullerton (D, 6th District) was arrested for drunk driving over the weekend. He had a blood alcohol level of .188, twice the legal limit of .08.
The vehicle that son Garritt was driving was a state owned SUV that is supposedly only to be used for official state business.
Cullerton immediately told reporters that he didn’t know his son was diving around in a state owned vehicle.
“A Senate vehicle assigned to the Senate President for official legislative business was used by his son without his authorization,” Sen. Cullerton’s office said in a written statement. “The Senate President is dissapointed that this incident occurred and takes this matter very seriously. He will work to ensure that this does not occur in the future.”
What utter BS.
You expect anyone to believe, Senator Cullerton, that your son stole the SUV to joy ride in after boozing it up? You truly mean to tell us, Senator Cullerton, that your son is a drunk AND a thief at the same time?
No, Mr. Cullerton, what is far more likely is that your son got caught drunk driving — bad enough of course — but that he was driving the state-owned vehicle because you let him do it all the time and it wasn’t out of the ordinary at all.
Yet, here you are throwing your own son under the bus… or SUV as the case may be… just so people won’t realize that your family has been illegally using state-owned vehicles for their own personal needs.
Mr. Cullerton you are not only a crook, but a bad father. Shame on you.

Kerry Picket of the Washington Times found two amusing videos of California Senator Barbara Boxer, one in 2009 and one from this month, that shows the sad state of affairs in which Democrats find themselves politically these days.
In 2009, Boxer was warning about those dangerous “well dressed” angry mobs that make up the tea party movement. She was scornful of those horrible people who would dare protest the government in general, and she and the Obammessiah in particular. It was just un-American, donctcha know?
Yet by April of 2010 Boxer, who is locked in the first close election she’s ever had, is suddenly urging her supporters to be just as excited as the tea partiers.

Is Scott Lee Cohen Eyeing Guv’s Chair, Now?

Former candidate for Comptroller William Kelly reported to Chicago News Bench that Scott Lee Cohen is thinking of running for the Governor’s seat. Could it be? Could the guy that the Democrat Party forced off the ticket when he won the Lt. Guv’s spot now be looking to take his revenge out against the Party by opposing them for Governor?
And if he does run, will he run as a Democrat or will he run as an independent? How will he do it? Or is he really thinking about the next run, not the 2010 run? There’s a ton of questions with this one, that’s for sure.
One thing is sure, though. Scott Lee Cohen has said to various members of the media, both new and old, that he will be running for something in the future… though to date he has not officially said what that office might be.
It would be a hoot if he decided to run for governor against Quinn and the Democrats both. It would be Chicago politics at its most circus-like. Political life under the big top, is what we have.

Prosecutors: Blago Wanted to ‘Personally Profit’ From U.S. Senate Seat

U.S. prosecutors released a document today detailing some of the charges against former Governor Rod Blagojevich one of which is that the ex-gov “repeatedly expressed an interest in personally profiting” from his responsibility to appoint a successor to fill Barack Obama’s Senate seat abandoned in 2008 when he won election to the White House.
The document reports that Blagojevich told a high-ranking aide, “Now is the time for me to put my (expletive) children and wife first, for a change.”
Also repeated is the allegation that Blago expected to turn his power to appoint a Senator into a future job for himself and/or his wife, a “good gig” as he put it, as heard on surveillance tapes in possession of prosecutors.
Much of this info has come out in drips and drabbles in the past, but this is the first time that prosecutors have assembled it all in a single document laying out their roadmap for proceeding on the case.
Quite a few shady financial deals are outlined in the document.

‘Mob Banker’ Giannoulias Can’t Raise As Much $$ As Mark Kirk

Democrat candidate for Senate Alexi Giannoulias seems to be having some trouble raising campaign cash, at least when compared to the more successful efforts by GOP candidate Mark Kirk.
Giannoulias told reporters that his first quarter fund raising rang in at about $1.1 million for his race to win Barack Obama’s old Senate seat. For his part, Kirk reported that he raised $2.2 million.
The candidate have until April 15 to make their formal fundraising report.
Giannoulias claimed that his bank troubles were not a factor in his lower fundraising amount than Kirk’s. It has been discovered that Broadway Bank, the family bank Giannoulias ran, made over $20 million in bad loans to convicted felons, loans that were never paid back.
The bank is also in severe financial straits having lost $75.3 million last year alone. Regulators have given Broadway Bank until the end of the month to raise $85 million to cover its shortfall.
Quiet whispers among state Democrats have been heard questioning Giannoulias’ electability and rumors abound that state pols are considering alternatives to his candidacy despite his win in the late primary.
Desperate to refocus the news cycle upon Mark Kirk, Giannoulias tried to characterize Kirk as “obsessed” about Giannoulias’ Broadway Bank troubles. Kirk, however, has built a small 37-33 lead in the polls early in this campaign.

A few days ago Rep. Phil Hare told some of his constituents that he didn’t care about the U.S. Constitution and that he was going to help push through Congress Obama’s un-Constitutional take over of our healthcare anyway. Unfortunately for Hare he was being video taped as he said it.
Today it has been revealed that Rep. Hare has invested heavily in the U.S. wool industry. To that end he’s made a nice little video for us where he addresses this whole Constitution thingie…
You are wondering about the “wool,” right? Well, obviously he’s invested heavily in wool because he’s trying to pull an awful lot of it over the people’s eyes with THIS little extravaganza of back peddling!
In his video Hare laments the “gotcha” form of politics that resulted in his first YouTube special. All I can say is they can’t have “gotcha” unless there was something to “got,” there Rep. Hare!
But ya gotta give the Hare credit. This was a quick like a bunny video posted to try and stem the tide of his plummeting reputation. And just before the Easter Bunny makes his rounds, Hare lays this egg on us!

The Democrats ‘Mob Banker’ With $20 Million in Loans to Criminals

It is bad enough that current State Treasurer and Senate candidate Alexi Giannoulias is now well-known as the mob’s favorite banker with revelations of his $20 million in bad loans to various mobsters and convicted felons — so much money that his family bank is now about to go belly up over it all. But what is worse is that the Illinois Democrat Party purposefully backed this shady operator as its 2010 candidate for Senate!
Illinois Democrats are so arrogant that they imagined that they could pick the dirtiest candidate they could find, one with a possible criminal history worse than that of their recently resigned knife wielding Lt. Gov. candidate Steve Cohen, and the voters would just mindlessly go to the polls and vote the party line. And perhaps they are right. We’ll see.
The Chicago Tribune recently reported that Giannoulias’ failing bank loaned the $20 million to Michael Giorango and Demitri Stavropoulos even as they were about to be trundled off to serve federal prison sentences.

Ill. Rep. Phil Hare Just Doesn’t Care About the Constitution?

Well, here is Democrat Phil Hare so perfectly fitting the profile of a left-wing hack. He fits perfectly that stereotype of the Democrat that doesn’t care about our laws, our traditions, our safety or our Constitution.
Don’t believe me? Listen to his own words: “I don’t worry about the Constitution.”
When asked where in the Constitution Phil Hare finds the power to take over the economy, our healthcare, and any other thing he feels that he’s smarter than us to take over, Congressman Hare admits that he doesn’t care about that silly old Constitution thingie.
He’s more interested in the, “I care more about the people that are dying everyday that don’t have healthcare.”
Gosh he likes us, he really likes us. Of course, neither he nor any other Democrat has been able to prove that people are “dying every day that they don’t have healthcare.” But, you know…
My favorite is when he claimed that he read this 8,100 page bill “three times.”
And when he was called on that obvious lie, he stomped out the door. Poor lil fella. Of course, the TRUTH is that there is no way on earth that he’s read the entirety of a 8,100 page bill any “three times.”

The New Dem. Lt. Gov. Candidate’s Anti-Catholic Song

On March 27, Jeff Finley of the Pioneer Press made an interesting discovery when looking up info on the Democrat’s new pick for Lt. Governor, Sheila Simon. Apparently Sheila’s 5-piece, all-girl band named the Loose Gravel Girls has an anti-Catholic, Pope bashing song in its play list.
The song titled “Pope Knop” (that’s pronounced Kuh-Nope) seems to be about a four-year-old girl that has somehow become a Pope that is “drawing with markers on the Vatican floor” so that “going to church will never be a bore.”
The song starts out with some pseudo Catholic liturgy type music and then segues into a piano driven, banjo plucking little tune that features a bouncy beat and a slide whistle apparently to denote that it is supposed to be “funny,” I guess.
