Guest: Thousands Protest Lifetime TV’s New Father-Bashing Reality Show ‘Deadbeat Dads’

-By Glenn Sacks

Thousands of protesters have called and written Lifetime Television this week to protest Lifetime’s new father-bashing reality show Deadbeat Dads. Last year, similar protests drove the show—originally called Bad Dads–off of Fox.

According to Reuters, in Deadbeat Dads Jim Durham, director of the National Child Support Center, “functions as a sort of ‘Dog the Bounty Hunter’ for tracking deadbeats.” Durham targets dads by “making their lives miserable — foreclosing on their house, repossessing their car. He will squeeze them… It’s ambush reality TV.”

The program’s depiction of divorced dads is a horrendous distortion. Research clearly shows that most divorced dads pay their child support and strive to remain a part of their children’s lives, often under very difficult circumstances. The Federal Office of Child Support Enforcement’s own data shows that two-thirds of “deadbeat dads” earn poverty level wages—only 4% earn even $40,000 a year.

Notre Dame’s Betrayal of Faith

-By Selwyn Duke

When John the Baptist said to King Herod, “It is not lawful for thee to have thy brother’s wife,” the price he paid was his head on a platter. He had spoken Absolute Truth to power in a time when power was absolute. It was the bravest of acts, the kind only undertaken by those very rare men for all seasons.

Lying in stark contrast to this is catholic (note the small “c”) Notre Dame University’s genuflection before Barack Obama, a man embodying the very antithesis of Catholic teaching. As most are aware, the university extended an invitation to Obama to deliver a commencement address and, to make matters worse, will bestow upon him an honorary doctorate.

Obama: Schlepping around to find a church to celebrate Easter

-By Marie Jon’

At the time of our founding, most Americans were avowed Christians. Those devout believers would be shocked to see modern revisionists claim otherwise, and they would especially be shocked at the degree to which non-believing atheists have taken control of our country’s courts, legislative halls, and educational institutions.

Barack Hussein Obama belittles the faith of our founders and America’s vast Christian heritage. Delivering a recent speech in Turkey, Obama exposed his disdain for biblical Christianity, leaving many Americans wondering what is happening to the United States.

Rejoice, rejoice, Jesus is Lord

-By Marie Jon’

“This is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.” (John 17:3)

History is filled with the names of people who have changed the way we live and think. Names like Aristotle, the Greek philosopher and student of Plato; Alexander the Great; and other familiar names pass the lips of people who have never read one book about them, because they played such a profound role in the development of human civilization. Others, like Marie Curie, Thomas Edison, Sir Isaac Newton, Galileo Galilei, and Albert Einstein, are remembered for furthering mankind’s frontiers of knowledge.

However, there is one person, without a doubt, whose name stands out above all the rest. Jesus of Nazareth has had much more of an impact on our civilization. He was the gentle carpenter who changed lives with His earthly ministry. Christ came to a world besieged in darkness, and set the captives free.

At Last a Good Boy Scout Story

-By Warner Todd Huston

Out of Georgia comes a heart warmer about the Boy Scouts for a change. Instead of radical gays attacking this noble organization, instead of extremist left-wing politicians trying to make a name for themselves by attacking one of America’s finest youth organizations, we have a story that makes you smile. And you can bet it won’t make national news.

Rodrigo and Rosa Cano moved to the United States in 1980. A decade or so later Rosa gave birth to David who the proud parents enrolled in a local Boy Scouts troop when he reached his tenth year. They hoped that young David could further help them assimilate in their new home as young David brought home his Scouting experiences.

The AP Thinks Palin Teen’s Romance Woes is News?

-By Warner Todd Huston

Is it some sort of amazing, newsworthy revelation that teen romance is sometimes a rocky road? Is it news that family can be troublesome when it results in out-of-wedlock birth? The Associated Press seems to think it is, at least if one of those teens is Governor Sarah Palin’s daughter, Bristol.

Do you care that punk Levi Johnston is bawling to the press that Governor Palin is supposedly a controlling Grandmother? Especially in light of the fact that this kid is an uneducated, immature, unserious lout? Well, if YOU don’t the AP sure as heck does.

This time we have punk Johnston whining that Grandma Palin is a bit cross with him and closely watches him when he is with the baby. All I can say is, can you blame her? I wouldn’t think much of a grandmother that let’s a jobless, high school dropout have unsupervised visits with a child he casually fathered without regard for his girlfriend’s future or family. Would you?

But, on the other hand. I just can’t find a reason to care about Levi OR Bristol.

I Am A Tired American

-By Warner Todd Huston

I am tired of many things going on today, things that seem designed to undermine and destroy our great country. Certainly, we all have the right to express our opinions and, naturally, every American holding any particular ideology will see things that do not correspond to his idea of the “real America” at any given time. It is right and good that we, as citizens, should seek to make the changes we think necessary to make our country strong. We can all agree that people of intelligence and integrity might agree to disagree, but there are some things about a country that, when abandoned or abruptly changed, creates a place markedly different than what it was previously.

These sorts of seminal changes in the fabric of a nation should only be undertaken when that fabric is rotten even to its core. There have been bad spots of America that had to be surgically removed, we all know. But the core of this nation, despite its blemishes, is not now and never has been rotten.

And so I am tired of the many people who are native to this country that want to destroy what it is to make it into what it isn’t, never was, and cannot be. If we wish this country to be as great into the future as it has been in the past this self-destructive behavior must be stopped.

Suddenly One Morning, Tyranny

-By Marie Jon’

Imagine waking up one morning prepared to do your daily Bible study and discovering that Exodus Chapter 20 had been completely erased. The Ten Commandments were missing. Of course, you would wonder what possibly could have happened.

You then become panicked as you quickly turn to the New Testament, only to discover that the Sermon on the Mount had vanished as well. The verse about loving one’s enemy was gone. Even the Golden Rule had disappeared. Upon closer examination, you discover that every guideline concerning living a better way of life was gone.

Canadian Parents Fooled Into Raising Prostitutes

-By Warner Todd Huston

Canada, oh Canada. What the heck happened to ya? I suppose it is nothing more mundane than that our northern neighbor has succumbed to the same sort of nihilism that western culture in general is slouching toward. Two recent stories in the Canadian press could not illustrate better the depths being plumbed by Canadian society–and by extension our own.

The first purports to be parenting advice perpetrated on Canada by one Adriana Barton of the Globe and Mail. In this woeful homage to the newest sort of Dr. Spokian abdication of parenting, Barton tells Canadian parents that “consensual living” is a far better way to rear a child than exerting parental authority.

After reading Barton’s piece, though, one gets the distinct feeling that this “new” idea of “consensual living” allows willful children to control the parent. It is “non-hierarchical”–meaning the parents have no authority, apparently–and is supposedly based upon “understanding each other’s feelings,” trumpets Barton.

For The Sake Of Eternity Christians Need To Better Understand The Future

-By Frederick Meekins

The church was instituted by God in part to stand as a defensive bulwark to protect against erroneous doctrine and spiritually damaging heresies from contaminating the minds of believers and thus to an extent soften the blow of a continually degrading culture. However, often those in positions of religious leadership are so hopelessly detached that when confronted with warnings as to the spiritual dangers threatening both the individual and society they offer little in the way of a viable response grounded in a Christian worldview and instead prattle on about matters few actually care about at best or at worst condition the average congregant to eventually acquiesce to the expanding technocollectivist agenda. This trend is evidenced in the inordinate emphasis upon COMMUNITY rather than Scripture as the authoritative source of values in an increasing number of ecclesiastical circles.

In my column “Just Because You Don’t Understand Doesn’t Mean Its Not Real: Most Epistemologically Unprepared For Bioenhancement Nightmares”, I went into lengthy detail how the Transhumanist movement presented not only a threat to traditional conceptions of liberty as it simultaneously veered off into either total anarchy or nearly absolute control but also threatened what it means to be a human being itself. As an important message I felt the broader church might be in need of hearing, I decided to post it at a website where pastors, ministers, and Christian researchers of various types could publicize their homiletic endeavors to share with their peers and other interested believers.

Teen Suicide Brings Wrong Call for Regulation

-By Warner Todd Huston

No one wants to see a beautiful 18-year-old girl commit suicide. No one wants to make any worse the pain that surviving family members feel. No one wants to make light of the situation that causes a child or young person to chose suicide, either. But high emotion makes for bad laws and this is no exception.

Last year, Jessica Logan imagined that she was sending a nude cell-phone photo of herself only to her new boyfriend. But he was not as circumspect as she might have hoped passing the salacious picture to his friends, and they to theirs, until it surged through some seven Cincinnati high schools.

It wasn’t long before Jessica was the butt of jokes and the target of epithets like “slut” and “porn queen.” The ribbing shook her so hard that she hanged herself in her bedroom last July.

Should Church Leaders Obey Oppressive Laws?

-By Don Boys, Ph.D.

Well, the jerks in the Connecticut legislature are at it again. They are trying to control Roman Catholic Churches. It is time for religious leaders to tell the politicians and federal judges, “Come and get us because we will not comply with your orders.” Such leaders will be more likely to get away with that resistance if they repudiate their tax-exempt status which is the modern day golden calf that almost all pastors bow before.

A Jewish leader said of the proposed legislation, “You cannot tell a church how it can govern itself. The church is entitled to govern itself any which way it wants.” Well, that is both true and false! When a church forms into a corporation, it places itself under the authority of the state. However, the states and the feds are going after churches whether they are 501 (c) (3) or not. Politicians must understand this principle: “We must obey God rather than men.” And obeying God does not always entail obeying man.

Living Like it’s 1899, What does ‘Sacrifice’ Mean?

-By Warner Todd Huston

Newsweek has some prescriptions to save us all. We should live like it’s 1899 instead of 2009. Don’t use a dryer for your clothes, chop your own wood for heating fuel, buy a black and white TV because it’s “just as good,” and don’t get the Internet or cable TV. Sheese, talk about a kill-joy!

Of course, the piece by Steve Tuttle isn’t all stone-ageie, new-ageiness. Some of the points Tuttle makes are sensible enough — not buying what you can’t afford being the most salient. But, Tuttle’s harkening back to his parent’s depression era scrimping is a bit much and makes a mockery of the sensible suggestions he does make.

Naturally, a Newsweek piece isn’t complete unless it has some gratuitous (and in this case off base) Obamaisms as homage to the brilliance of The One. In this case, Tuttle invokes Obama’s exhortation for us all to engage in a little “personal sacrifice.”

Cause For Celebration: An Examination Of The Cosmological Argument

-By Frederick Meekins

Often the classics rank among the best. Even though time passes and intellectual fashions change, certain insights and perspectives address something so profound they forever earn a place as a steadfast pillar among sifting seas of opinion. Much of what comes after such a point simply serves as either confirmation, renunciation, clarification, or criticism. Though he lived and labored during the Middle Ages in the 1200‘s, the cosmological argument of Thomas Aquinas has withstood the test of time as one of those stalwart pillars of the mind pointing to a rational basis for belief in God.

Though the term “cosmological argument” sounds intimidating and the concept it strives to convey seems profound, this series of propositions endeavors to express a most elementary idea in a highly rational form. The thrust of the cosmological argument seeks to prove that the universe must have a cause and that only God can serve as an adequate explanation for the existence of the universe. Norman Geisler in Introduction To Christian Philosophy states the basic argument in the following manner: “(1) Finite changing things exist. (2) Every finite, changing thing must be caused by another. (3) There cannot be an infinite regress of causes. (4) Therefore, there must be a first uncaused cause of every finite changing thing that exists (page 267).” From here, Aquinas proceeds to argue that only God is powerful enough to serve as an explanation behind this uncaused cause.

Sorry About Your Loss, Mom. Now Can We Use Part of Your Baby?

-By Warner Todd Huston

Professor Sir Richard Gardner, a leading scientist for stem cell research at Oxford University, England, proposed using parts of aborted fetuses as transplantable material for the ill last week causing great concern for those believing in the sanctity of human life.

Sir Richard called for studies into the feasibility of transplanting fetal organs into adults and found it curious that it hasn’t been done already. He claimed it would take much research to prove the feasibility of the idea.

Imagine what this concept would result in, however. Who cannot realize the Pandora’s box of horrors that would be opened with this idea? Should such an idea take hold we necessarily would find doctors telling mothers that it is OK to abort their children because it “might save a life” all so that researchers would have more fetal material to study.

And it could get even worse if such research would find the idea feasible. We would then end up with doctors pushing abortion so that we could begin to disseminate fetal tissue to prolong other people’s lives. We would therefore be setting up a system of purposefully killing infants to prolong the lives of older humans.

What sort of society kills its young to provide spare parts to make older people live longer?

Brothers At War

-By Warner Todd Huston

In Iraq a U.S. soldier told Jake Rademacher, “I’d give my life for America any day. Wouldn’t think twice.” Jake himself has two brothers serving in Iraq and he wanted to know why? Why are they doing it? So he packed his camera and embeded himself with his brother’s unit in Iraq to answer that burning question. What makes our soldiers put their lives on the line?

Brothers at War is the result of filmmaker Jake Rademacher’s experience with his own brothers serving in Iraq. This film, executive produced by Gary Sinise, is one of exquisite beauty and deep emotion and, even more importantly, is a salute to the patriotism and bravery of our men and women in uniform. Unlike the products of Hollywood, this film does not treat our soldiers as villains and criminals.

This is an Iraq conflict film worth promoting. Look it up and go see it, won’t you?

A Proud Father Speaks

-By Tom Glennon

At 2:30 PM EST, Friday, February 23rd, my youngest son recited his reenlistment oath to serve his country for another four years. He was on duty at the time, but was relieved by a fellow Airman so that he could have the oath administered, and a few pictures taken. He then went back to his job, and finished his scheduled assignment.

When reciting this oath, he swore to support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic. He swore to bear true faith and allegiance to the same, and obey the orders of the President and his appointed officers, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice.

The Pendulum Swings

-By Marie Jon’

There are people who have many misconceptions of Christianity. Some believe it is a heavy weight of do’s and don’ts piled upon one’s shoulders. Others believe that it’s an “if you sin, you’ll go to hell” doctrine.

Some believe that preachers are only in the pulpit to make money. There is the proverbial lie that God is always watching to catch you when you make a mistake, and there’s the pesky inconvenience of attending church in the first place.

The human mind can create a list of impossible expectations that lead to fear and a spiritual disconnect of hopelessness. Eventually, people who feel this way close their Bibles and never darken the doors of a church. They make the decision simply not to believe in God anymore.

How Barack Obama Wants to Make Black Children Poorer

-By Warner Todd Huston

In 1996 Congress passed and Bill Clinton signed the welfare reforms that for the first time in 20 years caused poverty statistics for black children to fall to unprecedented lows during the modern welfare era.

In 1996, Barack Obama was against these reforms.

In 2009, with his giant welfare bill he calls a “stimulus plan,” Barack Obama has eliminated these reforms.

Watch this video to see how Obama wants to return to the days of higher poverty rates for black children.

Proof once again that Democrats want to enlarge welfare rolls, destroy the lives of citizens, make everyone poorer, and create a permanent underclass that they can count on for votes.

On posted a response to my commentary, Three Good Reasons to Become a Teacher: June, July and August.

“I became a teacher because I wanted to know I would be secure in retirement. I also happened to like working with kids.”

I found his comment more than slightly disturbing because one would hope that a person would enter the teaching profession based on a desire to teach, not for the pension. As a matter of face, novice teachers who participated in a study about why educators leave the profession expressed reasons for entering the field of teaching, such as; to help young people, share their love of learning, improve society, loved their subject, liked young people and felt responsibility to the next generation. Isn’t it amazingly fortuitous for Mr. Galt that he just happened to like working with kids.

After Generations, CNN Suddenly Discovers That ‘Alaska families struggle to survive’

-By Warner Todd Huston

The winter in Alaska has been a particularly harsh one this year. The early winter piled on top of economic hard times has caused some troubles for native people and those that live in remote areas in Alaska. But this is not a new tale of woe, it IS Alaska, after all. While nothing to entirely dismiss, one wonders, why CNN suddenly found this story so compelling? Could it be that they want to portray Alaska Governor Sarah Palin as just as harsh as the winter?

Native peoples and their neighbors in Alaska have been surviving for generations in the same manner. They hunt, fish, and store foods in the summer to survive the harshness of winter, and since becoming a state, they marshal their money to buy fuel and other items brought to them by American ingenuity. Not an easy life, but a life they are used to nonetheless. It hasn’t really changed much for a long time in that remote part of the world. Yet, despite the sameness of it all, suddenly CNN finds Alaskans are “struggling to survive.”

Man was created in God’s image

-By Marie Jon’

For nearly a century, our public school textbooks have been more than suggesting that humans are related to specific members of the animal kingdom. In fact, Darwinism insists on such teaching.

The untruthfulness of the man-made theory of evolution is astounding. It’s bewildering that well-educated people should believe so ardently in this unproven science. This godless teaching is foisted upon our society as though it were empirically-demonstrated fact. Because of Charles Robert Darwin’s belief, secularization and atheism have gained wide acceptance throughout the world.

Darwin himself started out collecting beetles and birds, and ended up an agnostic.

Another Example of How Liberals Destroy This Country

We often call them “our best and brightest.” They are the men and women of our armed forces, all volunteers putting their lives on the line to defend our nation. Some of our most able and trustworthy leaders have come from their ranks. In times of need their sacrifice is cause for us to well with pride and their inevitable loss cause to shed a tear of gratitude. We encourage our young people to consider this life of sacrifice to our country and when at a young age they so choose the life of a soldier, almost without fail we find such young folks to be the cream of our society. Polite. Earnest. Intelligent. Hard working.

So why are the administrators in the Aurora, Colorado public school system harassing and punishing one of those very young people that we should be celebrating? With actions such as this, liberals are not only destroying our schools but also our traditions and our very social fabric.

High school senior Marie Morrow, 17, of Cherokee Trail High School is serving an illicitly sentenced 10-day suspension and her expulsion from school is on the line within the month. Miss Morrow is a team leader of the Young Marines youth leadership group and participates in the group’s drill team.

Boxer Urges Quick Handover of U.S. Power to UN

-By Warner Todd Huston

Senator Barbara Boxer (D, CA) wants to speed the process of handing power over U.S. sovereignty to the United Nations as soon as possible by urging the State Department to come out in support of the U.N. Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC).

The UNCRC imposes on all treaty signatories power over laws concerning children and, by extension, families. The largest portion of laws concerning children and families in the U.S. are state statutes so this treaty would, in actual fact, eliminate all family laws in the various states and hand the power over this area of law to the U.N. as per the Supremacy Clause to the U.S. Constitution (Article V1) that states that treaties preempt state laws.

Boxer is eager to destroy the entire lot of family laws throughout the country supposedly to protect “the most vulnerable people of society.”

Christmas Responses Taken To Extremes

-By Frederick Meekins

At one point in its history, one could argue that the West was too sure of itself as the foremost of civilizations. However, such is no longer the case today.

In theory, pluralists and multiculturalists contend that no way of life or culture is better than any other. Thus, one would think that Western and American perspectives and traditions would be welcomed into this expanded showcase of human achievement.

Yet unless one wants to bash the West for its past short comings, they had better think again. If anything, one is expected to feel the same kind of shame in regards to the most innocuous of traditions that was once reserved for more carnal subjects during exceedingly Victorian times.

The Enduring Word of God

-By Thomas E. Brewton

Earthly things wither and die, but the Word of God prevails forever.

Pastor Dan Gardner preached the sermon Sunday at the Cohocton (New York) Assembly of God Church. His text was Isaiah 40:1-8:

Comfort, comfort my people, says your God. Speak tenderly to Jerusalem, and proclaim to her that her hard service has been completed, that her sin has been paid for, that she has received from the LORD’s hand double for all her sins.

A voice of one calling: “In the desert prepare the way for the LORD; make straight in the wilderness a highway for our God.

Every valley shall be raised up, every mountain and hill made low; the rough ground shall become level, the rugged places a plain.

“And the glory of the LORD will be revealed, and all mankind together will see it. For the mouth of the LORD has spoken.”

A voice says, “Cry out.” And I said, “What shall I cry?” “All men are like grass, _and all their glory is like the flowers of the field. The grass withers and the flowers fall, because the breath of the LORD blows on them. Surely the people are grass.

The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God stands forever.
