The Left’s New Civil-sorship

-By Warner Todd Huston

Let’s be civil, OK? I mean, let’s tone it down out there. You people need to rise to a better, more civil discourse. I know this because the entire left wing in America today is telling us this (even as Democrat Steve Cohen is calling anyone that opposes him a Nazi).

We need to get rid of all the violent rhetoric, they say. We need to stop saying words like “target” or using a crosshair symbol on election maps. Maybe we should stop saying that politicians have a “war room,” too? And saying that we want to “beat” the opposition is right out.

So, yeah. Let’s get rid of all this violence shall we?

On second thought if you are signing onto this new line of civility being used as a means of censorship, well you are an idiot. A morn. A retard, even.

City Official Uses Office to Quash Website

-By Warner Todd Huston

Conneaut, Ohio’s City Manager, Robert Schaumleffel, Jr., is “tired of the dirt,” you see. And he claims that he’ll be the one to “put a stop to it.” Pursuant to his blustery de-dirting campaign, Manager Schaumleffel has decided to take a page out of the bag of tricks from his German ancestry and stomp down on the political free speech of a local website that features information about the city, its government, and officers. So, our esteemed city leader has had his legal department send a cease-and-desist letter to the site’s owner to put a stop to posts about city government.

This arrogant attempt to quash free speech by a local politician is an excellent example to remind us all that government abuse isn’t just something that happens in a state capitol or in Washington DC, but something that can happen right in our own home towns… and often does. It also serves to remind us all that as citizens we must fight zealously for our rights.

Buffalo News Supporting Silencing of Righty Radio Talkers

-By Warner Todd Huston

Douglas Turner of the Buffalo News wants conservative radio talkers silenced. He calls them “virulent,” “violent” and “coarse” and hopes that starting January 1 the “work of flushing” them will begin. Turner fills his little anti-free speech screed with claims and a few examples of how rotten he thinks righty talkers are and how they need to be shut down, yet can’t seem to find a single cross word to say about the “coarseness” of lefty talkers. In other words, it is plain that “coarseness” or “one-sided” radio isn’t really a concern of his. Only eliminating the free speech of the right is his goal not any leveling of the playing field.

Naturally, his is filled with prosaic generalizations. Turner assumes that all conservative talk show hosts “were fond” of addressing Obama as “Hussein,” his middle name. Yet, Turner offers no list of those that did. He says righty talkers are “violent” but does not offer a single example to prove the allegation. It also seems that Turner can’t understand why radio hosts that call themselves conservative would be “one-sided.” Curiously, he didn’t excoriate Alan Colmes, Randi Rhodes, or Al Franken for being “one-sided.” (I know… Imagine that, huh?)
