Even Old Time Socialist Says SEIU is Corrupt

-By Warner Todd Huston

Bill Fletcher is all about the wringing of hands over the corruption scandal of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) and is afraid that it will get in the way of the upcoming presidential campaign. Fletcher, a long time union activist, pseudo “Africanist,” anti-American, and anti-Jew agitator, who is also a self described “socialist,”, and Barack Obama volunteer, was interviewed recently on the website of the extremist organization Democracy Now.

Little of what he had to say is of much surprise or interest nor is there any truth to it. It is filled with your run-of-the-mill psychotic hate for business and the U.S.A. like the content of all of his interviews. But, his lament about the troubled SEIU is interesting… maybe even heartening for those who wish to see the union curtailed.

All’s Foul in Love and Politics

-By John Armor

Alexander Pope’s original quote was, of course, “all’s fair in love and war,” meaning you can get away with anything in those two areas. Now, as we all know, the entire economy of the United States is threatened with collapse because of supposed “errors and outright fraud on Wall Street.”

Let’s step back a bit. The crisis began with the financial collapse and federal take-over of the two “private” organizations which insured and/or bundled and marketed a major part of all home mortgages in the US. These two organizations had gone along for decades, serving the public one mortgage at a time. What brought Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to “suddenly” collapse?

A decade ago, Congress changed the rules of operation of both institutions. It ordered banks to broaden their lending into areas where the risks were greater, and to make loans to borrowers they previously thought would not pay those mortgages when they came due. The two institutions would then buy those loans.

Then, those loans were bundled into pools and sold on national and international markets. They were attractive, because they paid high interest rates, because they were, after all, high risk loans. The mortgages had low or no down payments. So all it took was a downturn in the housing markets and many of these loans went below zero in value. The home owners walked away. The banks were left with piles of bad paper.

Emergent Church: Wacko Environmentalism Not Evangelism!

-By Don Boys, Ph.D.

There can be no argument the Emergent Church leaders emphasize the environment over eternity. Brian McLaren wrote that a Christian’s goal is not simply to reach people for Christ but to save the planet from destruction (A New Kind of Christian, p. 83). No, that is not our goal. While we are stewards of God’s creation, we are not responsible to save the planet. McLaren teaches that the kingdom of God is “about changing this world.” (The Secret Message of Jesus, p. 23.) No, it is about changing people, one by one, through the Gospel of Christ. That will change this world!

McLaren wrote, “For example, maybe we can stop arguing about the origin of species and start concerning ourselves with the extinction of species and the endangerment of species in a world of carbon addiction, habitat destruction, and extraction-economics.” (On Faith, Newsweek and Washington Post website, “The Search for Higher Common Ground,” 6-7-2007.)

That is typical left-wing drivel. I am much more concerned about schools teaching students the farce and fraud of evolution than I am about what happens to spotted owls, snail darters, condors (vultures), etc. But it gets worse.

State Run Canadian Media Corp. Apologizes for Palin-Smearing Article

-By Warner Todd Huston

**Video Below The Fold**

Well, it took them long enough, but the State run Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) has finally apologized for the obscene attack on Governor Sarah Palin that appeared on September 5 that was extensively covered in the conservative press in both Canada and the U.S.

Heather Mallick called McCain a “hateful little man,” called Republicans and Palin “white trash,” and also called Palin a “porn actress” in her two September 5 articles (one has been removed by the CBC the other is at The Guardian). That wasn’t all as Mallick seemed to completely lose her mind with a litany of name calling and charges not based in any factual evidence.

The complaint soon flowed into the inbox of the kindly lefties at the CBC, so many in fact that even these hard core leftists had to back track from Mallick’s insane ramblings.

AP Attacks Palin for Not Being in Alaska During Campaign

-By Warner Todd Huston

With the newest angle to beat up Sarah Palin, the AP is suddenly alarmed that no one is “running Alaska” while Palin is out on the stump with John McCain, so much so that they’ve published a piece wondering if Alaska is about to sink into the icy grip of the Alaskan tundra, or something, because Palin isn’t there. One wonders if the AP is all upset that no one is in Congress representing Illinois or Delaware with Obama and Biden roaming the countryside instead of sitting in the Senate? One wonders if the AP has even noticed that Obama has spent less than 200 days in the Senate since he took his seat in that august body in 2005? Talk about rudderless! Talk about short-shrifting the representation of constituents!

The AP is all about the wringing of hands because Palin has been absent from the Alaska governor’s office for the last three weeks. I guess the AP isn’t aware that Alaska has a Lt. Governor? But, let’s face it, the AP doesn’t care about Alaska at all because this article is only a thinly disguised excuse to slam Palin for not running to the press to fawn over them and cater to their every need.

Most of this piece is centered on the way McCain and Palin are trying to control the Palin message, as opposed to any real worry that Alaska is running rudderless. In fact, this AP smear piece is a bait and switch, not really about what it seems to be about.

The AP even basically starts out with a lie:

Even NYT Crossword Puzzles In Tank for Obama

-By Warner Todd Huston

Even the crossword puzzles in The New York Times are biased in favor of Obama and Biden finds David Levinson Wilk in Politico. Wilk did a little research to see how many times McCain has been an answer in the NYT puzzle since 2005. He came up with zero entries. When he looked for Obama he found the name “regularly appeared” in the puzzle. Does this prove that the Times is “150 percent in the tank” for Obama as McCain adviser Steve Schmidt recently claimed?

I find it a bit amazing that neither McCain’s name, nor Palin’s name (unless it is referring to Monty Python alum Michael) appears in the Times puzzle. But, there you have it. Wilk gives us his findings but tries to make light of the whole thing.

Union Patronage: Millions Paid to Family Members of Union Bigwigs

-By Warner Todd Huston

The L.A. Times has really got it out for the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), I have to say. On September 26, the Times published another one of its investigations into the corrupt union activities, this time revealing that SEIU union bigwigs have funneled millions of dollars to little companies owned by family members for “services” being provided the union.

The investigation also showed that union chiefs are starting their own side companies only to get millions of dollars in “contracts” from the union.

It must be nice to be a chief directing budgets of millions upon millions of dollars right into your own pockets and that of you family members!

Here are just some of the shady “services” and payments union chiefs made to their wives, daughters, sons and other family members:

  • The SEIU and its political affiliate contributed $3 million to America Votes, an advocacy organization that was headed by Cecile Richards, wife of an aide to SEIU President Andy Stern, at the time the payments were made.
  • Melissa Mullinax was an SEIU political director when the political consulting firm she held a 20%-to-25% stake in, The Edison Group, was paid more than $1 million, including expenses. In addition, the SEIU has spent about $41,000 on a graphic design company owned by Mullinax’s husband, Jason Abbott.
  • The union paid about $520,000 to a consulting firm co-founded by Democratic Party and labor strategist Steve Rosenthal, the husband of another SEIU director, Eileen Kirlin. Rosenthal, a longtime friend of Stern, also headed America Coming Together, a get-out-the-vote nonprofit that received $23 million from the union.
  • Pamela Kieffer, wife of a third union director, David Kieffer, has received about $70,000 in consulting fees and in separate payments from a firm that provided recruitment services to SEIU.
  • In addition, the SEIU and an associated nonprofit paid roughly $210,000 in consulting fees over four years to Don Stillman, husband of the union’s outside legal counsel, Judith Scott. Stillman helped edit a 2006 book written by Stern, a publication that has generated controversy because of how the union president profited from it.

It looks like the best way to become a millionaire these days is to marry a union chief of the SEIU!

Patriotism, Taxes and Charity

-By Michael M. Bates

Democratic vice presidential candidate Joe Biden was interviewed on ABC’s Good Morning America last week. With hair plugs set perfectly and dental caps gleaming – or was it the other way around? – Joe was asked by Kate Snow if those odious folks known as the rich should pay more in taxes. His reply:

“You got it. It’s time to be patriotic, Kate. Time to jump in, time to be part of the deal, time to help America out of the rut, and the way to do that is they’re still gonna pay less taxes than they did under Reagan.”

Oh, so now the argument is sending more bucks to Washington is a form of patriotism. Readers familiar with Biden’s well-established record of “borrowing” that goes back at least to his law school days won’t be traumatized to learn it’s not an original notion.

The Democrats Own It

-By Marie Jon’

New Media pundits have been forthright when presenting well-investigated stories concerning Barack Obama and John McCain. While the alphabet biased media fawned over Obama, who marketed himself as a candidate who transcends race and represented a new brand of politics, others looked for the truth.

As it turns out, the New Media found that Obama is just another disingenuous politician. He is a packaged and pretentiously scripted candidate created by the DNC. Obama’s promises are nothing but the oily words of a swindler.

Appropriately, the facade has been stripped away by some of those who love their country. Conservative talk show hosts from across the USA have been peeling the blinders from the eyes of both parties’ constituents. Great inroads have been made by patriots such as Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity. They have been revealing the Democrat’s deepest darkest secrets to unprecedented numbers of Americans.

The Privacy Problem is Unauthorized Tracking

-By Scott Cleland

The Privacy Solution is a Meaningful Consent Standard

There was a major tectonic shift in the Internet privacy debate today at the Senate Commerce Committee hearing on Internet privacy.

Surprisingly strong consensus emerged surrounding Internet privacy that:

  • Behavioral Advertising did have value;
  • Technology is not the privacy problem with behavioral advertising;
  • The privacy problem is lack of advance meaningful consent by consumers to track their Internet movements and to use their private information; and
  • Any privacy effort must comprehensively include all Internet players using any Internet technology because consumers don’t care about the technology being used—they just care about their privacy being abused.

AT&T, Verizon and Time Warner, three of the four largest American ISPs, all agreed in their collective testimony that any behavioral advertising should involve “meaningful consent” by consumers, meaning the customer:

Family Told Obama NOT To Wear Soldier Son’s Bracelet… He STILL Does?

-By Warner Todd Huston

**UPDATE – 09/28/08 PM**

Barack Obama played the “me too” game during the Friday debates on September 26 after Senator John McCain mentioned that he was wearing a bracelet with the name of Cpl. Matthew Stanley, a resident of New Hampshire and a soldier that lost his life in Iraq in 2006. Obama said that he too had a bracelet. After fumbling and straining to remember the name, he revealed that his had the name of Sergeant Ryan David Jopek of Merrill, Wisconsin.

Shockingly, however, Madison resident Brian Jopek, the father of Ryan Jopek, the young soldier who tragically lost his life to a roadside bomb in 2006, recently said on a Wisconsin Public Radio show that his family had asked Barack Obama to stop wearing the bracelet with his son’s name on it. Yet Obama continues to do so despite the wishes of the family.

Radio host Glenn Moberg of the show “Route 51” asked Mr. Jopek, a man who believes in the efforts in Iraq and is not in favor of Obama’s positions on the war, what he and his ex-wife think of Obama continually using their son’s name on the campaign trail.

WaPo Highlights ‘President Obama’ Painting

-By Warner Todd Huston

We have to mark this down in the “this is news?” category, but the Washington Post has decided that it would be newsworthy to report on some guy who has already painted a “President Obama” painting to hang in the White House upon coronation… er, I mean election. No, seriously. This really is news! Heck, why else would they report this if it wasn’t real news? Do ya think they’re in the tank er something? As if.

So, here is the heartwarming story of a propagandist with a lose brush painting what is supposed to pass for “art,” a wunnerful depiction of the Messiah looking somewhat Soviet-like in style, chin lifted, gazing off into the distance at the future.

Apparently, the artist painted a portrait of Thurgood Marshall that Obama has had loaned to him to hang in his Senate office. And he is ready to pass this newest picture on to his dear leader, the Obamessiah, to hang in the Imperial offices.

Colorado Amendments 47,49,54 Attacked by Unions

-By Warner Todd Huston

There has been a pretty vicious fight in Colorado over several Amendments that will appear on the ballots aimed at putting a collar on rampant union violations of worker’s rights this year. The unions have imported all sorts of outside groups and money to defeat these worker freedom Amendments.

Here is a page from the latest anti-worker rights the unions have sent out.

Top Agenda of the Emergent Church: Social Gospel!

-By Don Boys, Ph.D.

Emergent Church leaders are into the social gospel of the early 1920s, a failure and departure from the Word now as then. One of the EC leaders admitted that the EC is a protest movement, so what do they protest? Many EC leaders would consider Bible-believers as Neanderthals because of our positions on abortion, homosexuality, death penalty, etc. (What is the Emerging Church? Protest—jesuscreed.org, posted by Scot&nbs p; McKnight. Http://www.jesuscreed.org/?p=512.)

A professor of religious studies at North Park Theological Seminary in Chicago and EC leader expressed the social activism of EC leaders aptly when he wrote, “I tell my friends that I have voted Democrat for years for all the wrong reasons. I don’t think the Democratic Party is worth a hoot, but its historic commitment to the poor and to centralizing government for social justice is what I think government should do.” (Scot McKnight, Talk:Main Page website, 1/19/2007.)

Googleopoly II: Google’s Predatory Playbook to Thwart Competition — a new White Paper

-By Scott Cleland

My new Googleoply II White Paper (see www.googleopoly.net) identifies and documents the twenty-six sources of Google’s market power and the five different anti-competitive strategies Google employs to foreclose competition.

This original and trenchant analysis brings into sharp focus the moorings of a potential antitrust case against the Google-Yahoo ad pact. The White Paper also should give pause to even the biggest apologists and cheerleaders for Google — if they are ‘open’ to reading it. Simply, it is a must-read piece for anyone trying to understand why the DOJ’s investigation of the proposed Google-DoubleClick is so serious and important.

Here’s Some Gall: Democrats Want to Tax Wall Street

-By Warner Todd Huston

These scumbags really have gall, ya know? First we have Democrats from the Carter administration all the way up to those serving with the Obama campaign being key players in the mess that became our current economic hell and NOW they want businesses to pay for the mistakes Democrats made. Democrats have come up with the brilliant idea of taxing Wall Street to “pay back” the treasury for the bailout.

Reuters is reporting that Democratic Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi is claiming that she wants to drag down Wall Street even further by levying confiscatory taxes on investors and investment firms if the treasury isn’t paid back in 5 years time.

“If after five years … the CBO decides that the American taxpayer has lost money in this, then there would be a fee on financial institutions,” Pelosi said, adding that she hoped the provision could be part of a final bailout deal.

So, the Democrats are responsible for causing this mess and they want someone ELSE to pay the bill? Democrats have the gall to pretend this is everyone else’s fault!

It figures. Continue reading “Here’s Some Gall: Democrats Want to Tax Wall Street”

AP, CNN Both Distort Laura Bush Saying Palin ‘Lacks Foreign Policy Experience’

-By Warner Todd Huston

**Video Below the Fold**

In the Words-Mean-Things category, yesterday we got both the Associated Press and CNN distorting the words Laura Bush used to describe Sarah Palin on foreign policy. Worse, the video interview of the First Lady was right on CNN yet on its own Political Ticker blog, CNN still distorted what Laura Bush said about Palin. It makes you wonder if the folks at CNN even watch CNN?

On September 24, Political Ticker posted a story by “CNN Ticker Producer Alexander Mooney” headlined “Laura Bush says Palin lacks foreign policy experience” and started the posting out with these first lines: (bold mine)

The Decision of the Undecideds

-By Dan Scott

The first debate between John McCain and Barack Obama covering mostly foreign policy came to its expected outcome. McCain made the obvious points accepted by most of the country and cut through Obama’s attempts at nuance. We expected Obama to be shown for the extreme leftist, dangerous, naïve person he is and we were not disappointed. McCain was slow to begin with the economic question and definitely not on his game giving the advantage to Obama.

To say the least, both liberals and conservatives said their respective candidate won the debate. In a sense, both sides are right and wrong at the same time. From their perspective each candidate delivered the talking points they wanted to hear and thus in their minds was a point scored. This result is what we call, confirmation bias. The problem here from a strategic view is neither side has the votes to win if things stand as they are. Both candidates have essentially half the decided voters. Therefore, the election will be decided by the actual turn out of the decided voters and by those who have yet to make their decision.

300 Retired Generals And Admirals Endorse John McCain For President

In this day of uncertain security, this endorsement REALLY means something…

John McCain For President

ARLINGTON, VA — U.S. Senator John McCain’s presidential campaign today announced that 300 retired generals and admirals from around the country are endorsing John McCain for president. The retired generals and admirals announced their support with the following letter:

“We have had the honor and privilege of serving as career officers in the United States Armed Forces, and of serving shoulder to shoulder with so many of the fine young men and women who are the backbone of America’s Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps and Coast Guard. It is that experience that informs our judgment that John McCain is the presidential candidate best suited to serve as America’s Commander-in Chief from the day of his inauguration.

“Our next president will confront national security challenges as significant as those faced by any administration in at least a generation. Success will require a leader with proven tenacity, judgment and courage. It will also require a leader with detailed knowledge of our military and other instruments of national power, and with years of experience dealing seriously with foreign leaders.

“John McCain’s entire life has been devoted to the service of America. Throughout a long and distinguished career in the military and in Congress, he has repeatedly displayed the courage and integrity to place America’s interests first — regardless of personal cost. And he has demonstrated the experience and wisdom to lead America — and, importantly, our allies — in effectively dealing with complex and vitally important national security challenges around the world.

“We unequivocally endorse him to continue his service to the country as the next President of the United States.”

Don’t Know What You’ve Got ‘Til It’s Gone

-By Nancy Salvato

“The people shall not be deprived or abridged of their right to speak, or to publish their sentiments; and the freedom of the press, as one of the great bulwarks of liberty, shall be inviolable.” James Madison

My mother used to say that it’s better to go from being poor to being rich than from having been rich and become poor because you don’t yearn for what you’ve lost. However, my experience has been that if you’ve always been free from want, you might not ever gain an appreciation for what was taken for granted. In any event, it wasn’t until I reached middle age that I began to understand what for me truly constitutes being rich and it wasn’t until 9/11 that I really gave much thought to how quickly it could be taken away.

During World War II, when peace and stability were shattered by acts of physical aggression initiated by the axis powers, Franklin Roosevelt gave a speech on what he referred to as the four freedoms.

Pagan Practices Taught by Emergent Church!

-By Don Boys, Ph.D.

God warns us in Jer. 10:2, “Learn not the way of the heathen,” but heathenism is exactly what EC leaders are teaching. The Bible gives no support for chanting, centering prayer, yoga, beads, candles, incense, labyrinths, breathe prayers, etc. The Roman Catholic Church brought all those from paganism and baptized them into “Christianity.” I don’t think anything has shocked me in my entire ministry like seeing evangelicals wade waist deep into pagan practices and call it “a return to Christianity”! The New Age (which is really old) has arrived in our churches!

Robert Webber, a Wheaton College professor, further encouraged pagan practices in evangelical circles when he wrote, “The early Fathers can bring us back to what is common and help us get behind our various traditions….Here is where our unity lies…evangelicals need to go beyond talk about the unity of the church to experience it through an attitude of acceptance of the whole church and an entrance into dialogue with the Orthodox, Catholic, and other Protestant bodies.” (Ancient-Future Faith: Rethinking Evangelicalism for a Postmodern World, p. 89.) These “early Fathers” are given far more credibility than they deserve in my opinion. They transferred numerous Grecian, Roman, and Eastern pagan practices into the post-apostolic churches and those practices then became accepted as biblical by the slowly forming Roman Catholic Church.

Kissinger Says Obama Wrong on Kissinger’s Position in Debate Tonight

-By Warner Todd Huston

Here is something that the media should focus on. In the debates tonight, Barack Obama said that even Henry Kissinger agreed with Obama that on a presidential level a diplomatic meeting with as rogue a leader as Iran’s Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is a good idea. McCain immediately said that this was not true, but the issue wasn’t further addressed in the debate.

Well, now Henry Kissinger himself is attempting to set the record straight. Kissinger says that Obama was wrong, McCain was right. Stephen Hayes of the Weekly Standard has a short post to this effect on his TheBlog entry.

Kissinger Unhappy About Obama

Henry Kissinger believes Barack Obama misstated his views on diplomacy with US adversaries and is not happy about being mischaracterized. He says: “Senator McCain is right. I would not recommend the next President of the United States engage in talks with Iran at the Presidential level. My views on this issue are entirely compatible with the views of my friend Senator John McCain. We do not agree on everything, but we do agree that any negotiations with Iran must be geared to reality.”

Well, that about answers to that Obama lie.

This reply by Kissinger should find greater exposure to show that Obama really is out of his depth on foreign policy issues. Let’s hope the Old Media corrects the record.

Dems Bailout Proposal Redirects ‘Paulson’s Profits’ To Left-Wing Groups

-By Warner Todd Huston

Bush told the country that we are in an economic crisis and his Treasury Secretary, Henry Paulson, came up with an idea that would, it is claimed, end up actually making money for the U.S. Treasury in the long run. That’s all well and good, but the Democrats already have a plan to siphon off any repayment of the people’s money back to the treasury by adding one little line to the agreement that would end up stealing money from any repayments and giving it to left-wing political advocacy groups like ACORN, the National Urban League and the Hispanic group La Raza. Instead of trying to help the economy, the Democrats just want more money for their left-wing political constituents. It’s business as usual for the Democrats, of course, but a bigger question is will the media let them get away with it?

On Thursday, the Senate Democrats shopped around a one page “Agreement in Principle” from the U.S. Senate Banking Committee that laid out their proposal for the bailout of the economy. At first it all seems rather straight forward, but hidden inside this document is one little line that proves that Democrats aren’t as interested in the economy as they are in trying to extort a payday for their favorite political advocacy groups. Yes, even in a bill as important as the bailout the Democrats are trying to stuff it with pork!

Of course, the claim that this bailout will make money is not cut and dried. But the idea is that the bailout will put the Treasury Department in ownership of what could easily later become lucrative investments. And, at that later date, the Treasury Dept. can then begin to sell these investments off at a profit and, thence, pay back the Treasury for the bailout — in essence repaying the American people. But, the Democrats already have a plan to spend “profits” that not only do not exist yet, but may never exist. In the “Agreement in Principle” is the following line:

FL Paper Quotes White Woman as Racist Against Obama, SHE Says She Never Mentioned Obama

-By Warner Todd Huston

A 60-year-old white woman from Spring Hill, Florida is quoted as saying that there is no chance a black man can win the White House. This same woman, Sandra Cichon, is quoted in a total of three St. Petersburg Times stories, the latest being from September 15. But in a follow up interview, Barbara Sowell of digitaljournal.com finds that Cichon claims she was never called by a pollster, as the paper claims, and never told any reporter that she wouldn’t vote for a black man.

So who is right? Did the St. Petersburg Times merely make up racist quotes out of whole cloth and put words in the mouth of this woman or is she suddenly trying to take back what she said by claiming not to have been interviewed about Obama? Here’s the story and you can decide.
