AP Says Shame on GOP for Showing Palin’s Kids at Convention?

-By Warner Todd Huston

Apparently Ted Anthony of the Associated Press thinks it is somehow “contradictory” of the GOP to show VP candidate Governor Sarah Palin’s kids at the GOP convention on TV. He seems to imagine that, since the GOP objected to the media attempting to use the kids against Governor Palin, that the GOP shouldn’t be allowed to have the kids attend the convention to see their Mother accept her nomination.

Anthony’s “analysis” hit the nets on September 3, the day after Palin’s wonderful acceptance speech on night 3 of the proceedings. Naturally, the AP trolls our left leaning universities to find some “expert” to back up its claim that it is all wrong to show the proud faces of Palin’s children looking up at their Mother as she speaks to the convention.

“For two days, the chorus from Republicans on TV news and in the halls of the convention,” Anthony scoffs, “has been resounding: Back off and let the Palin family be. ‘That’s out of bounds,’ said Minnesota’s Republican governor, Tim Pawlenty. ‘There’s no need to be intrusive and pry into that.'”

After this, in accusatory tones, Anthony recounts the many times that Sarah Palin’s children appeared on TV during the convention. And then he goes for the supposed “expert” for his opinion…

McCain and Palin, Two Winning Mavericks

-By Marie Jon

While Republican conservatives were looking at Govs. Mitt Romney and Tim Pawlenty to fill the VP slot for Sen. John McCain, there was a distant buzz. Another name was floating around.

The day after Barack Obama gave his convention speech at Denver’s Invesco Field, which was brimming with tens of thousands of enthusiastic Democrats, there came a stunning announcement. John McCain selected the first Republican woman VP candidate, Sarah “Barracuda” Palin.

The Democrat’s big night was blunted. The airwaves were filled with the news of the newcomer who would be welcomed in Dayton, Ohio, one day after the anniversary of the 19th Amendment to the Constitution, granting women the right to vote. Gov. Palin’s name would change the presidential race in 2008.

The Straight-Shooting Governor

-By John Armor

I wasn’t going to talk about presidential politics for a long while, especially since my prediction last year ago of a Giuliani / Hillary Clinton race, with America’s Mayor winning narrowly. Wow, did I miss the mark on that one.

Wednesday of this week I got a call from a young woman who said she was a pollster for the Democratic Party of North Carolina. After a little back and forth, I was satisfied that this was a real poll, and I answered her questions.

The fact that she didn’t ask any demographic questions at the end raised doubts about the legitimacy of the call. A pollster should ask questions about whether I voted in past elections and which ones, to determine whether I’m a likely voter. She should have asked my age, education, and income level, among other questions which allow calculation of how representative the responders to a poll are, as a group. But that’s not what I came to talk about.

Us Magazine Hit Hard by Canceling Subscribers After Palin Attack

-By Warner Todd Huston

Courtney Hazlett over at MSNBC’s “The Scoop” is reporting that thousands of “Us Weekly” subscribers have not only called the magazine to cancel their subscriptions — some reports say up to 10,000 cancellations have occurred — but have also contacted advertisers and expressed their outrage that they are advertising with the celebrity news magazine that would so blatantly try to destroy Governor Palin.

Hazlett is hearing that the editorial board of “Us Weekly” had thought they pegged it right that media pressure and attacks would see Palin pulled from the McCain ticket even before her debut speech. Because the media had so quickly swarmed to destroy her, they thought she was toast before she even had the chance to accept the nomination.

“When Us went to print Monday night, it looked like the ticket was falling apart,” says one magazine editor. “They went to print thinking Palin was dead in the water, and their mistake was thinking everyone who reads Us is a Democrat, when they’re not. Readers are loyal, but the base of a political party is more loyal. They don’t need to read the magazine when there’s so much press around it to know to be upset.”

Reports vary that from 3,000 to 10,000 subscribers have canceled their subscriptions to the gossip mag scaring the pants off of the magazine industry. In a time when sales and advertising are both down, the magazine industry does not need this sort of imbroglio, for sure. Hazlett also reports that these many thousands of cancellations came before the attacks on Palin in “Us Weekly” were even printed and distributed.

AP Next Going After Palin’s ‘Derided’ Religion

-By Warner Todd Huston

The Associated Press takes the attacks against Sarah Palin to the next level by saying that in her released bio Palin’s religion was “obscured.” The AP is suggesting that Palin’s ostensibly secret religion is really Pentecostalism which, they note, is a sect that is “derided by outsiders and Bible-believers alike.” So, the AP is saying here that the McCain campaign is trying to cover up Palin’s past because they must somehow know that her real religion is a cult or some wacko, fringe sect.

Sarah Palin often identifies herself simply as Christian… Yet John McCain’s running mate has deep roots in Pentecostalism, a spirit-filled Christian tradition that is one of the fastest growing in the world. It’s often derided by outsiders and Bible-believers alike.

But for all of the AP’s grave warnings about what it obviously considers wacky Pentecostalism, Palin and her hard working, middle class family have for the last 6 years belonged to the Wasilla Bible Church which is not a Pentecostal Church but describes itself as an independent evangelical church. So, even if she were raised in the Pentecostal Church — and even if we were to be alarmed at this — she left it behind 6 years ago. So, where is the “obscuring,” where is the secretive past?

McCain’s Love Affair With Media is Over

-By Warner Todd Huston

For those who say that the Maverick can’t learn a new lesson, Bloomberg has a story that proves John McCain has at least learned this lesson; the media is not his friend. Pronouncing that McCain’s “longtime love affair” between himself and the media is “on the rocks,” Bloomberg reports on how McCain has been distancing himself from the media of late. Naturally, Bloomberg takes a few shots along the way, too.

It seems that, instead of placing the blame on the media where it belongs for its mistreatment of McCain and its sycophancy for Obama, Bloomberg seems to suggest that it is the fault of McCain’s new campaign manager who, Bloomberg gravely tells us, was “close to Karl Rove.”

Some of the campaign’s new approach may coincide with the bigger role taken by (Steve) Schmidt, who was close to Karl Rove, a former campaign manager and White House aide to President George W. Bush, known for keeping a tight grip on press access to his boss.

Sorry, but it wasn’t Steve Schmidt’s fault that Time Magazine has had Obama on its cover 7 times in a year while only giving McCain that benefit twice during the same time period! Nor was it Steve Schmidt that just called VP pick and Alaska Governor Sarah Palin “like Caligula,” well known as one of the most debauched and mentally ill of Rome’s ancient emperors. Nor was it Schmidt that has indulged in the lowest sort of glee at raking over the media coals the life of a teenaged girl and a Down Syndrome baby.

Larry King Live: Jesse Ventura, Actor D.L.Hughley Call Republicans ‘Nazis’

-By Warner Todd Huston

It always comes down to this one, doesn’t it? Leftists and fringe politicos calling Republicans “Nazis.” Well, the “N” word was once again unleashed against John McCain’s Republican Convention on September 2 during CNN’s Larry King Live show. Actor D.L. Hughley and Independent former Governor of Minnesota Jesse Ventura both went for that shopworn epithet as King discussed the Convention.

Along with Hughley and Ventura, King had on former Clinton Press Secretary Dee Dee Myers who claimed that Republicans were saying with their convention theme that “only Republicans put their country first” ridiculously saying that Independents shouldn’t vote for the GOP because they are insulted so much. “I don’t understand why any independent or Democrat would consider voting for the McCain/Palin ticket,” Myers partisanly intoned, “after being called all night that only Republicans put their country first.”

Only a true sell out, though, would see it that way. Certainly the convention was cheerleading for its own members and saying that Republicans do, indeed, put their country first. But no one was saying that no one else does. Still, isn’t this what conventions are for? To cheerlead and buck up the troops? And tell me, Dee Dee, why should anyone outside the Democrat Party go over to their side of the aisle after the Democrats so monotonously claim that only they care about people? Isn’t that just as insulting?

Anyway, that partisan foolishness aside, it was left to Hughley and Ventura to get really into stupid by calling Republicans “Nazis.”

I Won’t Vote for Obama or McCain so What about Chuck Baldwin!

-By Don Boys, Ph.D.

I have been asked many times whom I will vote for in November, and my answer is Chuck Baldwin. “Chuck who?” you may ask. Chuck is the Constitution Party presidential candidate, and a long time friend of mine who lives in Pensacola. He has long served as pastor of the Crossroad Baptist Church, columnist, and is a well-known talk show host of “Chuck Baldwin Live.” I have preached in his church many times, have stayed in his home, know his family and consider him a very close friend. He is an informed, principled, and honest Christian conservative.

I voted for Pat Buchanan a few years ago and wrote the following: “Pat is a Roman Catholic; however, he is a principled person. Do you know many of those in politics? Yes, I have some problem with his theology, but we had Harry Truman, Jimmy Carter, and Bill Clinton, all Baptists so I have determined that I would rather have a principled Catholic in the Oval Office than an unprincipled Baptist.” Or, I might add, an unprincipled Methodist!

In November, we have a choice of an independent Baptist candidate whom I will vote for with gusto. I suppose I feel emotionally the same way about Chuck as many Blacks feel about Obama being the nominee of the Democrat Party; however, I’m not voting for Chuck because he is a Baptist, or my friend, or of “my” Party but because he is the best choice as President of the United States. I wonder if the 90% of Blacks voting for Obama can honestly say the same thing. Furthermore, I wonder if the Republicans voting for McCain can say the same thing. Only God knows.

Media’s Palin Derangement Syndrome: Suddenly, Old Media Thinks They are DNA Technicians

-By Warner Todd Huston

John McCain’s campaign spokesman is reporting that the media has deluged the campaign with demands that it provide DNA samples to “prove” that baby Trig is the true offspring of vice presidential candidate Governor Sarah Palin. Imagine the effrontery of this demand? Imagine the ignorance and outrageousness of this attack that Governor Palin is receiving at the hands of the Old Media? Worse, realize that this storm has been raised by gutter websites like DailyKos and the DemocraticUnderground! The media is not only indulging in the lowest of attacks they are allowing the most extreme, unhinged of the far left to dictate the direction of their coverage. The Old Media are worse than dancing puppets for the hatemongers on the left.

The Washington Post’s Howard Kurtz reported that McCain campaign manager Steve Schmidt is being buried under an avalanche of these unseemly demands for Palin’s DNA by the media establishment.

In an extraordinary and emotional interview, Steve Schmidt said his campaign feels “under siege” by wave after wave of news inquiries that have questioned whether Palin is really the mother of a 4-month-old baby, whether her amniotic fluid had been tested and whether she would submit to a DNA test to establish the child’s parentage.

Imagine the temerity of these media scavengers?

What about that ‘Experience,’ Barack?

-By Warner Todd Huston

Well, we keep seeing the Old Media blasting (or trying to) John McCain’s bold choice for his vice president, Sarah Palin. They keep pretending that Palin has no “experience.” Of course, they refuse to say a word about Barry Hussein Obama’s thin resume, but hey… THAT’S why they are the Media. To take the side of the far left.

Still, I thought it might be interesting to see Barry’s record next to Sarah’s. Now, remember, Barry is the guy that the extremists on the left say is “qualified” to be the actual president and Palin is only running for vice president.

Stay Classy Daily Kos: Accusations Palin ‘Faked Her Pregnancy’ of Down’s Syndrome Baby

-By Warner Todd Huston

Taking a look at the stories in the Old Media will show that the Media is turning attack dog ASAP on McCain’s choice for vice president, Sarah Palin. Notice the main meme is her supposed “inexperience.” Funny how Palin was the VP pick for about 15 seconds before the Old Media went after her “inexperience” while they have yet to hit Barry Obama on HIS inexperience at all and he’s been running for president since 2004. We should also note that Palin didn’t get the honeymoon that Biden got when his announcement was made. But, the worst is yet to come and the Daily Kos is doing its level best to mine the lowest of lows. In a Kos diary today, it is being alleged that Sarah Palin “faked” the pregnancy of her last child, a baby born with Down’s Syndrome. The claim is that it was her teenaged daughter’s child, not hers. And, true to form, the Kossacks took that absurd calumny and hate even further in the comments.

With all the pseudo gravity the Kos diarist could muster, this ridiculous story of a “cover-up” was floated for the foolish Kossacks to lap up. Inky99 gave us the scurrilous diary headlined “Palin’s faked ‘pregnancy’? Covering for teen daughter?,” in which the Kossacks posit that Governor Palin covered up her own teenage daughter’s teen pregnancy by pretending it is her own child instead of her daughter’s.

But it appears that Pallin’s last child, a baby with Down’s syndrome, may not be hers. It may be that of her teenage daughter.

Actually, “it appears” in no way to be true. The diarist gives a story from the Anchoage Daily News that does not in any way prove the diarist’s claim — nor even broach the subject of a faked pregnancy, for that matter.

The Kos diarist then goes on to claim that the “proof” of this claim is that Palin’s teenage daughter was sick and out of public eye for a few months earlier in the year.

Apparently her teenage daughter was out of school, unseen, for months, because she “had mono”.

And, even if this story is true, why is it one worth pursuing? Why it’s because Palin is pro-life, you see…

… seeing as how she’s quite willing to butt into the private lives of every other American woman, I think it’s fair game.

Yeah. Stay classy Daily Kos.

And the diary entry isn’t the worst of it. The comments get more vicious as each one passes. Here are a few:

Since Media Won’t Help, Time for McCain to Really Exploit His Stance on Iraq

-By Warner Todd Huston

Some how, the Old Media has missed the good news on Iraq. On August 27, the Rasmussen polling organization published a poll that showed American confidence is at its highest level ever in support of the War on Terror since they’ve begun tracking in January of 2004. This poll got little notice by the Old Media, of course, but it illustrates an issue that McCain should exploit to his benefit — especially after Obama’s acceptance speech last night.

Rasmussen found that Fifty-four percent of American voters now think that the U.S. is winning the war in Iraq and forty-eight percent think the situation will get even better in the next six months. Further, Rasmussen reports that this turn around in public opinion has been sharp when just last year only twenty-seven percent thought things were going to get better in Iraq.

Ominously for the Obama campaign, the poll also found that sixty-two percent of men agree that the U.S. is winning the War on Terror while forty-six percent of women do. Less than a quarter of women now think the terrorists are winning with just fourteen percent of men feel that way. This growing support augers against Obama’s continued anti-war stance.

Yahoo Ageism: Making John McCain Into an Ancient Artifact!

-By Warner Todd Huston

The folks at Yahoo News Photos section must have been greatly amused by their web page titled “Anthropology & Archaeology.” The first four pictures in the slide show are various archaeological discoveries… well, except for the third one. THAT one happens to be a photo of John McCain. Yes, Yahoo seems to be saying that John McCain is an archaeological artifact! Nice ageist slap, eh?

Here’s a screen shot of the original page…

The first two images in the Yahoo slideshow depict a pair of photos provided by Aristotle University of Thessaloniki of artifacts from a dig in Greece. The McCain photo, on the other hand, has a caption quoting John McCain’s thoughts on the latest Indiana Jones movie. All the rest of the photos in the slideshow deal with various archaeological subjects.

Needless to say, the John Mccain photo has no place in this slide show… unless you want to make a slam on McCain for his age.

Not very subtle, Yahoo News. Not very subtle at all.

For Immediate Release

John McCain Selects Alaska Governor Sarah Palin As Vice Presidential Running Mate

ARLINGTON, VA — U.S. Senator John McCain today announced that he has selected Alaska Governor Sarah Palin to be his running mate and to serve as his vice president.

Governor Palin is a tough executive who has demonstrated during her time in office that she is ready to be president. She has brought Republicans and Democrats together within her Administration and has a record of delivering on the change and reform that we need in Washington.

Governor Palin has challenged the influence of the big oil companies while fighting for the development of new energy resources. She leads a state that matters to every one of us — Alaska has significant energy resources and she has been a leader in the fight to make America energy independent.

In Alaska, Governor Palin challenged a corrupt system and passed a landmark ethics reform bill. She has actually used her veto and cut budgetary spending. She put a stop to the “bridge to nowhere” that would have cost taxpayers $400 million dollars.

As the head of Alaska’s National Guard and as the mother of a soldier herself, Governor Palin understands what it takes to lead our nation and she understands the importance of supporting our troops.

Governor Palin has the record of reform and bipartisanship that others can only speak of. Her experience in shaking up the status quo is exactly what is needed in Washington today.

Energizing the Base

-By Dan Scott

While John McCain is considering his choices for Vice President (the lucky one to be named on his birthday) he still has not energized the base of the Republican Party. Within my memory, there has not been a GOP nominee that has so created an environment of malaise in the base as this current election season. So far, John McCain’s only saving grace in this campaign is the hatred that Obama and Clinton supporters feel for each other. Essentially, whether John McCain wins on November 4th will almost entirely depend on which group of Democrats are the most offended by the other’s favorite nominee so they either stay home on election day or vote for McCain out of spite for the other. That’s not saying much for McCain since he doesn’t really seem to be capitalizing on the energy issue the Democrats basically gifted him with a nicely wrapped present, bow tie and card saying congratulations, you’ve won!

To say the least, it seems John McCain so far has approached this election with the intent of fighting with one arm tied behind his back. He has taken the conservative base for granted thinking they won’t vote for a Democrat or consider staying home on election day so they’re stuck with me. Well John, right back at you! This perceived attitude of McCain is a serious lack of leadership on his part. Whether the perception is real or imagined, the point is John McCain hasn’t demonstrated leadership to the conservative base otherwise they would follow his lead. Eisenhower laid out some basic principles of leadership:

Civility at Saddleback

-By David Huntwork

I watched a good portion the Saddleback Civil Forum on Saturday evening. It was a decent showing for both candidates but McCain probably did the best in what was viewed by many conservatives as a possible ambush by a pro-Obama evangelical pastor at a forum conceived by a variety of ideologically questionable characters. Instead, McCain really fumbled only once and came across as a decisive, determined, focused, relaxed, and informed man of integrity.

If you missed it here is a good recap.

McCain and Obama civil, not too revealing at church forum

“Rick did an amazing job of asking the questions most of us would ask the candidates if we could,” said Jill Frick, 47, of San Clemente. “I just really liked how John McCain gave well-stated answers. He didn’t even have to think. He takes a stand. Barack has a charming personality. He didn’t always give the direct answer.”

As a good orator and a person with definite charisma, Obama almost always does well no matter what the venue though he is less sure of himself without a TelePrompter in front of him. That said, he did flub the ’evil’ and ‘abortion’ questions.

The NYT’s Most Anti-McCain, Misleading Headline of the Week

-By Warner Todd Huston

Many of you are aware of the kerfuffle surrounding the “cone of silence” complaint being ginned up by the Obama campaign after the recent Saddleback Civil Forum on the Presidency on Saturday, August 16. The claim made by Obama and his willing accomplices in the Old Media (like Andrea Mitchell, not to mention the DailyKos) is that John McCain “cheated” by hearing the questions proffered to Obama, who was first up to be questioned by moderator Rick Warren. McCain’s answers were just too glib, the Obama meme posits, so he must have heard the questions ahead of time instead of being placed in an area off stage where he could not hear the proceedings. Yes, they are saying he cheated.

On Sunday, August 17, The New York Times did its level best to assist the Obama campaign to further that mistaken conception — well, all right, that outright lie — even as they debunked the story. How? By making their headline seem to support the Obama claim that McCain cheated, that’s how.

Now, remember, that the claim from the Obama camp is that John McCain somehow snuck out of the “cone of silence” he was supposed to be in while backstage. This so-called “cone of silence” was supposed to be an area backstage where McCain was not able to hear the questioning. Keep in mind that the Obama camp is saying McCain left this area unauthorized and that he, therefore, cheated. Now check out the New York Times headline:

Despite Assurances, McCain Wasn’t in a ‘Cone of Silence’

Now, if you were to read only this headline and skip the story, it would seem to verify that the Obama campaign was right. McCain was not in this “cone of silence.” It would be very easy to conclude that McCain then did hear the questions and did cheat.

How Many Democrats Are Trying to Pass an Energy Bill… How About ZERO

A nice five week vacation sounds nice to Democrats who’d rather be taking it easy instead of passing the energy bill in the House of Representatives. Yes, while we are paying $4 a gallon and more, Democrats decided it would be cool to go on a “well deserved” vacation.

America’s Political Gag Reflex

-By Lee Culpepper

With Obama’s lead in the polls disappearing, a steady stream of doubt is now being poured over Obama’s nervous and inverted campaign. The great orator appears ready to crack. Soon, Obama could be flip-flopping so swiftly that the infamous 90 seconds required to break someone through waterboarding will seem like eternity. If swearing to be a born-again conservative would make him president, Obama would find a way to deliver the announcement and still pacify his government-dependent audience.

Based on the new moderate direction of Obama’s campaign, would it surprise anyone if liberals called for a resolution to outlaw the whole election process? It is now eerie watching Obama flipping and flopping on the campaign trail as he frantically tries to tell mentally stable Americans what he hopes they want to hear. Meanwhile, he continues to soothe his cult of mesmerized followers with his encrypted-socialist message. But as panic and confusion gradually overtake the great orator’s senses, the cult’s best strategy might be to protest about how forcing Obama to continue campaigning simulates government-sponsored torture. Clearly, campaigning is extracting bogus information from the Democrat’s presumptive candidate.

At the current pace, August may well end with Obama swearing that he advocates — on a limited basis — small government and self-reliance. He might even say that although he has opposed the war in Iraq from the beginning, he has always been open to supporting certain parts of it in order to win the election. With just a few more imaginary flips, Obama might flop to the right of McCain – threatening to pose as the more conservative candidate.

AP Headline Asserts VP is ‘Unpopular Cheney’

-By Warner Todd Huston

Well, the Associated Press is certainly living up to its new rules of being opinion editorialists instead of reporters if the following headline is any indication: “Obama links energy troubles to unpopular Cheney.” This was unleashed on the world by the AP on August 5. So, I ask you, does “unpopular Cheney” sound more like opinion than it does simple news reporting?

In fact, the Cheney comment was not even the crux of Obama’s comments, but a throw away line meant to give red meat to the far left. Obama did not center his energy discussion on Cheney. Yet here we have the AP deciding to make that the focal point of the discussion by making it the headline? Even more ridiculously, the AP twice reported that throw away line in the same 10 paragraph story. This seems to reveal that it is the AP, rather than Obama, that wanted to focus on Cheney the most here.

Certainly we can face facts that the liberal press has succeeded in pillorying Vice President Cheney since almost the minute he stepped into the VP Mansion at the United States Naval Observatory. It is, therefore, a fact that Cheney has a low approval rating. But it seems to me that the headline branding Cheney “unpopular” is somewhat unseemly and opinionated as opposed to newsworthy.

Bush Gets Tremendous Crowds in S. Korea, US Media Ignores Story

-By Warner Todd Huston

Over at Gateway Pundit, Jim Hoft introduces us to Amy Proctor’s report on the amazingly large crowd of South Koreans that came out to welcome George W. Bush to their country. It’s a good thing that Amy clued us in here in America, because our media sure ignored the story of this large turnout.

Amy directs our attention to The Korea Times report that revealed that 374 “conservative groups” intended to “stage a large-scale demonstration welcoming Bush, at Seoul Plaza,” and boy did they ever come through. It turns out, the anti-Bush protesters were only able to muster a could of hundred protesters while the pro-Bush rally saw 15,000 Koreans turn out to participate.

Amy reminds us that none of the pro-Bush rallies were sponsored by the South Korean government, too.

AP: GOP Convention Protesters Create ‘Marketplace of Ideas’

-By Warner Todd Huston

Talk about a puff piece, this Associated Press short is a story with absolutely no substance. Not only that but after seeing the headline and then reading the story, one is hard pressed to believe they belong together. This Amy Forliti puffery is incongruously headlined “Protesters expected to transform the streets outside GOP convention into marketplace of ideas,” yet there isn’t any discussion at all of any such “marketplace” or about any real “ideas” in the story. In fact, the only “ideas” are ages old, stale and losing their grip among more Americans everyday.

Oh, Forliti talks about protests filled with prosaic anti-war sentiment, ages old oil protests, anarchists and 9/11 truthers, but there is no discussion of real “ideas” in this piece. Nor does the piece discuss exactly who is organizing these protests, people who are themselves filled with the dead ideas of another era — just for instance the United For Peace And Justice (UFPJ) is mostly a socialist organization and they are always a part of these coalitions of misfits.

After reporting that a retired 73-year-old doctor will parade about holding a styrofoam gravestone who will be on hand at the RNC convention in Minnesota and after talking about how a “philosophy professor” will agitate for 9/11 trutherism, the AP piece lets us know that these folks comprise a “marketplace of ideas.”

Bailouts: Compassionate Conservatism or Loony Liberalism?

-By Don Boys, Ph.D.

Well, the Federal Welfare Agents (members of Congress, Bush, Obama, etc.) are at it again—giving away money that is not theirs. Even little children know that it is stealing to take from the haves and give to the have nots. Do sane people really believe that it is right, by any standard, to take from the producers and give to the parasites? By what logic should taxpayers bailout banks and mortgage companies? After all, the feds don’t rescue a small businessman who doesn’t make it in the food business or a machine shop.

I don’t want to be cruel, condemning, or critical but the people who signed a loan for a home should be held personally accountable. Why must taxpayers who have paid their loans faithfully, often sacrificing to do so, have to come to the rescue of those who didn’t read the fine print or were caviler in taking the loan?

Moreover, why should American taxpayers go into debt to provide aid to anyone especially in other countries? Senator Obama’s Global Poverty Act, now before the Senate, is a Give-a-Way Program that will cost every U.S. taxpayer at least $2,500.00! Furthermore, the $50 billion AIDS bill (sponsored by Obama and McCain) was passed by the Senate and amendments were rejected that would have forbidden the funding of abortions and sterilization in China! The bill also lifted the ban on HIV infected immigrants entering the U.S.! Have our lawmakers gone mad or are they simply carrying on as usual? Even without a major depression looming in the U.S., such a bill should be shot down in defeat. “Conservatives” who voted for it are dumb as a box of rocks!

Track Votes on Any Bill in Washington D.C.

-By Warner Todd Huston

I have been made aware of a great resource tool for tracking bills that have taken a vote in Congress. It is called Govit.com (http://www.govit.com/) and it really helps when looking to see what Congress voted on, who voted for what, and when it happened.

Here is the “about” section to better describe the site:

Govit empowers citizens to take action in our representative democracy. On Govit you can connect with your elected representatives. Organize and promote specific legislation.

Vote on active legislation and have your vote sent instantly to your reps. Keep a a running record of your votes compared to your reps, and others (when election time comes, you’ll know if your representatives have really represented you!).

You can also do cool things like see what legislation the presidential candidates have sponsored, or check their voting records.

Govit is a non-partisan democracy platform. It was built by a regular citizen (Taylor Norrish), and has no special interest or government backing.

Go on over to http://www.govit.com/ and take a tour. It’s a very useful site.
