Brady for Illinois: Let’s Get to Work!‏

From the Brady for Illinois Governor campaign…

With less than 50 days left until Election Day, Brady for Illinois is reaching every single Republican, Independent, and Democratic voter in Illinois with one message – we won’t solve our fiscal crisis or create more jobs under the big government, tax and spend policies of Governor Pat Quinn.

Bill Brady will stand up against the political insiders to fight job killing tax hikes, and will put Illinois back to work.

When Did Calbuzz Become Jerry Brown’s Personal Communications Shop?

-By Warner Todd Huston

The widely read California website Calbuzz bills itself as a site offering political news, analysis, commentary, “and more about California and beyond.” During this election cycle, though, the “and more” seems to indicate that Calbuzz is operating as the publicity shop for Democrat Jerry Brown’s campaign for Governor because so far they’ve spent little time offering straight news about the race. Instead the site is constantly offering flattering Brown stories while just as constantly savaging Meg Whitman’s Republican campaign for that office.

Calbuzz gets a lot of respect from California’s Old Media and political establishment and that should come as no surprise. It isn’t necessarily because it is such a hard-nosed news service but because the website’s chief cook and bottle washers are members of that Old Media establishment.

Jerry Roberts is a journalist and former managing editor of the San Francisco Chronicle and Phil Trounstine is the former political editor of the San Jose Mercury News as well as a Democrat operative from former Gov. Gray Davis’s office. These two fellows have the inside track with both the Old Media establishment as well as the Democrat Party. This should make clear why they can’t write a positive story about Meg Whitman, too. It’s no wonder they can’t write a positive story about Whitman. It just isn’t in their DNA.

I guess the big question here is where does Jerry Brown send his check for all the hard publicity work that Calbuzz does for him?

Hultgren (14th District):8 Weeks Until Election Day‏

From the Hultgren for Congress campaign (14th District)…

As we enjoyed this labor day long weekend I wanted to thank you personally for your support and enthusiasm. I spent much of the last week on the road, and will be traveling across the 14th District again for the next two weeks to talk to voters about jobs and the economy.

Our representatives in Washington think they know best how to get our economy moving again, but the reality is that they’re just making things worse. We know that the private sector needs to create jobs and put people back to work, and for that to happen, Washington needs to cut the taxes and red tape that are holding us back.

This November, I believe the people of the 14th District will recognize that Washington is broken, our current Congressman is part of the problem – not the solution – and will support our campaign to get our economy back on track.

$75 million in federal disaster assistance to victims of July flooding‏

From the office of Cook COunty Commissioner Tony Peraica…

The late July flooding that ravaged much of Cook County was salt in the wounds of many individuals and employers who are already fighting to recover from the economic downturn.

Those of us in the bipartisan contingent of local elected officials who fought for the federal “disaster area” declaration were pleased when that declaration came last month. So far, upwards of $75 million in federal disaster assistance has been distributed.

Thank you to all the residents, businesses, municipalities and townships that helped distribute and gather the data collection forms which helped us in our effort to garner this federal declaration.

Conservatives Still Fighting to Get on Illinois Ballot

-By Warner Todd Huston

Doug Ibendahl of Republican News Watch reminds me of something I should have mentioned previously. There is an entire party, one officially recognized by Illinois, that is fighting to get its slate recognized and on the 2010 ballot. The Constitution Party of Illinois was thrown off the ballot but still might have some juice left to reverse that decision.

I hadn’t posted on the struggle that the Constitution Party was going through before because frankly I expected that they wouldn’t end up having enough petition signatures to make the ballot. Turns out they did. Yet the state election board threw them off the ballot anyway and really for no legitimate reason.

The whole petition challenge aspect of Illinois politics is its most venal form of good-old-boyism. Both the GOP and the Dems work hand-in-hand to destroy anyone they don’t want on the ballot. It is disgusting, gutter politics at its worst. Not to mention that it is wholly un-American to deny the voters their choice of candidates.

Rep. Peter Roskam (R-IL) on Obamacare

Last week, Congressman Peter Roskam was a guest blogger for The Heritage Foundation

If at first you don’t succeed, change the message. That’s the lesson learned when it comes to the new trillion dollar health law passed this spring.

One of the central advocacy groups who pushed for the Obamacare recently held a confidential ”messaging” conference call with the progressive movement where they revealed the results of extensive polling on the new law. Remember when the left was confident their controversial health care vote would soon be cheered by the public? The thinking was that Jane and John Doe simply needed more time to understand the two and half thousand page bill, because the year-long health care debate wasn’t enough time for them to get a grasp on it.

Labor Day Message from Bill Brady‏

From the Brady for Illinois Governor campaign…

As we head into Labor Day, I wanted to send my personal thanks to every one for coming out and supporting our campaign as I traveled across Illinois outlining my plan for creating real jobs, and for putting Illinois back to work.

In Illinois and across America, Labor Day celebrates not only the traditional end of summer, but also the historic legacy of labor, and of the generations of working men and women who built our great nation.

But this Labor Day, as we celebrate with family and friends at hometown parades and back yard barbecues, we also remember that too many of our fellow citizens are struggling, and out of work.

American People Collateral Damage in Pelosi-Jackson War on Job Creators

From the Hayes for Congress campaign (2nd District)…

CHICAGO: Republican nominee for Illinois 2ndCongressional District Isaac Hayes released the following statement in response to today’s jobs report showing an increase in the unemployment rate.

The unemployment rate rose to 9.6% in August, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The economy also lost 54,000 jobs.

“Today’s jobs report is another sign that the Pelosi congress just doesn’t get it. Nancy Pelosi and Jesse Jackson Jr. have made it clear they want to punish job creators through higher taxes and more burdensome regulation. The collateral damage from their war on job creators is the American people who have repeatedly asked for this Congress to focus on jobs for two years. The American people have a clear choice in November – they can vote for more spending, more taxes and more economic stagnation or they can vote to get the economy growing again.”

Hayes Calls for Strength and not Weakness on War on Terror

From the Hayes for Congress campaign (2nd District)…

CHICAGO: Republican nominee for Illinois 2nd Congressional District Isaac Hayes released the following statement in response to President Obama’s Oval Office Speech announcing an end to combat operations in Iraq.

“Jesse Jackson Jr. supports a cut-and-run strategy in our War on Terror. He has voted multiple times against funding our troops, including under President Obama. He has also voted in favor of requiring a timetable for withdrawal from Afghanistan, discouraging our troops and encouraging our foes to mark their calendars.

“This type of weakness puts our troops in harm’s way as they valiantly continue the fight against Al-Qaeda and the Taliban. I am appalled at how soon Mr. Jackson has forgotten that the September 11, 2001 attacks were planned in Afghanistan. I am equally appalled that he would use the safety of our troops for political posturing. As President Obama stated yesterday in his address to the nation, we may disagree on strategy but we can still support the troops.

Paul Ryan: Obamanomics Has Failed

-By Warner Todd Huston

Congressman Paul Ryan (R, Wis) and former Congressional Budget Office Director Doug Holtz-Eakin came together early this week to lambaste Obama’s failed economic policies.

In a conference call to supporters and the press, CBO Director Holtz-Eakin said that there is “no evidence” that “the stimulus has really worked” and that Obama’s Keynesian fixes simply won’t work.

There is nothing about Keynesian stimulus that is going to fix those problems. The spending by the government has gotten worse, has not solved the housing problem, and has also not been successful. Instead, the key to more rapid economic growth is going to have to be the business sector and international trade.

Representative Ryan echoed that assessment, saying:

Enriquez: Take a USMC swat at the Chicago Machine!

From the Robert Enriquez for Ill. Sec. of State campaign…

Last week, while you are hard at work sending up to 30% of your daily income to dysfunctional government, elected officials were squandering your hard-earned tax dollars, rewarding patronage, operating in the dark, passing bills they did not read, wildly increasing fees and redirecting money to parts unknown.

You know as well as I that we can no longer promote such recklessness. We must hold the leaders of this state accountable to the demands of the future; we need job creation, common sense policy to eliminate waste, improve services and cut fees. Citizens are tired and worried and I want to serve them as Illinois Secretary State for a brighter future.

(14th District) Hultgren Says Repeal Obamacare

The Daily Herald reports on Republican Randy Hultgren’s ideas on Obamacare as he races to the finish line to become the congressman from the 14th District.

Hultgren told attendees of a luncheon in St. Charles last week that changes created in the new law do nothing to address the cost of health care. He said he would’ve voted against both the major Democratic versions of the law and will work to undo “Obamacare.”

“I think Republicans blew it on this,” Hultgren said of the new law. “But I think Democrats blew it even more. We need to get rid of what we’ve got. Let’s repeal it.”

Hultgren said he’s particularly disappointed in what’s become known as the “1099 provision” of the new health care law. The provision requires companies to submit a report to the IRS for every business-to-business transaction made that exceeds $600. Critics view the provision as a nightmare of paperwork and accounting for as many as 30 million small businesses.

“This is going to kill small businesses,” Hultgren said.

Check out the rest of the article to see what his opponent, Bill Foster, said about Obamacare.

What If It Was Your Child Being Deployed?– Part I

From the Office of State Senator Chris Lauzen (25th District)…

(Part One of a Two-Part Series)

If it was your son or daughter who was being deployed to Afghanistan or Iraq, what would be your opinion of these wars?

I recognize that I’m no foreign policy or military strategy expert, but I can see how bravely parents of deployed troops silently bear their pain and fear. I watch how intensely Mike and Cindy pray for the safety of their sons and their comrades at church each Sunday—almost holding their breath until they return home. At the local grocery store, you see mothers staring at the cereal displays lost in their private thoughts. When I ask how their military son or daughter is doing, they answer with nervous pride, and we both avoid that deeper emotion that’s like adding one more drop of water to a glass full to the brim before it overflows.

How To Keep An Economy Down

-By From US Congressman Peter Roskam

If you haven’t been paying attention to the tax cut debate yet, you need to take a few minutes to find out how Democrat Leaders in Congress are set to deliver a one-two punch to the American public in the form of higher taxes on families and small businesses. At this time of economic uncertainty and sluggish growth, an across-the-board tax increase on families and individuals promises to keep the economy on its knees.

Starting January 1, 2011, new tax rates will kick in across the board, raising taxes on American families and small businesses by a staggering $3.8 trillion, from those in the lowest tax bracket and continuing all the way up the economic ladder. The Tax Foundation, a non-partisan, independent research organization estimates that an average family of the Sixth Congressional District will see their income taxes increase $1,972. At a time when many Americans are struggling to make ends meet, this misguided policy will take more money out of the pockets of individuals in order to fuel more of the wasteful government spending that is on track to triple our national debt.

John Garrido for 45th Ward Alderman

Think about the opportunity to have an Alderman on the city council who will:

  • Actually read city ordinances and raise common sense questions before voting on them;
  • Demand resources for public safety by properly staffing and equipping the Chicago Police and Fire Departments;
  • Speak out against selling off any more of our precious assets like they did with our parking meters and the skyway;
  • Be an advocate for small businesses who can bring jobs and revenue to our neighborhoods;
  • Never vote for a tax increase, but instead demand we properly manage our resources;
  • Welcome citizen interaction and work closely with neighborhood associations to rebuild and develop our Ward.

This is our chance to add to the growing independence on the city council and give true representation to the citizens of Chicago.

Hultgren Presents Plan For Revitalizing The U.S. Economy, Getting Americans Back To Work

From the Hultgren for Congress campaign (14th District)…

ST. CHARLES – State Senator Randy Hultgren, Republican candidate for Congress in Illinois’ 14th District, today outlined his positive vision for reviving the economy and putting Americans back to work. Speaking to more than fifty people at a luncheon hosted by the St. Charles Chamber of Commerce, Hultgren discussed the current economic climate; Washington’s failure to address the issues confronting American employers and workers; and his economic priorities.

“All across the 14th District, people are worried about the future. Many of our friends, neighbors and family members are experiencing the effects of unemployment as a result of the alarming jobless rate in our district that has consistently exceeded the State and National averages, and, many of those who do have jobs are underemployed. Our homes are worth less than when we bought them, and when we go to the store or the mall, we’re not spending as much as we used to because we don’t know what tomorrow holds.

“Unfortunately, our elected officials in Washington are making things worse. Last year, Congress passed a massive stimulus telling us it would keep unemployment below 8 percent; now, economists predict that 9.5 percent national unemployment is here to stay through at least next year. This year, they passed a huge, expensive health care bill that imposes new, burdensome regulations on our small business owners, while failing to address the high costs of health care.

“What Congress is talking about doing is just as bad or worse than what they have actually done. The atmosphere of uncertainty created by out-of-touch politicians and Washington bureaucrats means that business owners don’t know what new rules and regulations may be forced upon them tomorrow, so they are unwilling to expand, invest or hire new workers.

“What Washington needs to do instead – and what I would do if elected – is to cut taxes, reduce spending, and reform the way our government works. Congress also needs to address its role in creating the housing bubble that led to the current economic crisis. Even though a financial regulation “reform” bill was recently signed into law, it did nothing to reform the big government sponsored enterprises – Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac and Ginnie Mae – that backed nearly 97 percent of all U.S. mortgages.

“But most of all, Congress needs to remember who they work for: their constituents. As an elected official, I have always listened, always been respectful to everyone, always kept an open door, and never hid from my constituents, because they’re the people I work for. As a State Senator, I have 200,000 employers I am grateful to report to; hopefully, after November, I’ll have the honor of serving 700,000 employers across this district.”

Meet Sam McCann, Let’s repair and rebuild Illinois

Recently, Illinois has been breaking records—and not in a good way. The state’s debt and bill backlogs are higher than ever, and Illinois’ Democrat leaders are pushing for a tax increase as the way to address Illinois’ fiscal woes.

Sam McCann says, “enough is enough.” A small business owner with a 17-year record of creating jobs, Sam wants to take his experience and leadership to Springfield. He believes that creating jobs and attracting employers is the only way to rebuild the economy and get people back to work in Illinois.
