What If It Was Your Child Being Deployed? – Part II

From the Office of State Senator Chris Lauzen (25th District)…

(Part Two of a Two-Part Series)

Permanent recession, perpetual war, persistent anxiety and fear . . . these are not what we want. These are not the American Promise in either the Declaration of Independence or U.S. Constitution. But, that is what our current policies are delivering in domestic and foreign affairs.

We are not victims to some miserable fate. Wisdom and willpower produce lasting peace and prosperity.

So, where do we go from here in Afghanistan and Iraq?

Enriquez: Take a USMC swat at the Chicago Machine!

From the Robert Enriquez for Ill. Sec. of State campaign…

Last week, while you are hard at work sending up to 30% of your daily income to dysfunctional government, elected officials were squandering your hard-earned tax dollars, rewarding patronage, operating in the dark, passing bills they did not read, wildly increasing fees and redirecting money to parts unknown.

You know as well as I that we can no longer promote such recklessness. We must hold the leaders of this state accountable to the demands of the future; we need job creation, common sense policy to eliminate waste, improve services and cut fees. Citizens are tired and worried and I want to serve them as Illinois Secretary State for a brighter future.

(14th District) Hultgren Says Repeal Obamacare

The Daily Herald reports on Republican Randy Hultgren’s ideas on Obamacare as he races to the finish line to become the congressman from the 14th District.

Hultgren told attendees of a luncheon in St. Charles last week that changes created in the new law do nothing to address the cost of health care. He said he would’ve voted against both the major Democratic versions of the law and will work to undo “Obamacare.”

“I think Republicans blew it on this,” Hultgren said of the new law. “But I think Democrats blew it even more. We need to get rid of what we’ve got. Let’s repeal it.”

Hultgren said he’s particularly disappointed in what’s become known as the “1099 provision” of the new health care law. The provision requires companies to submit a report to the IRS for every business-to-business transaction made that exceeds $600. Critics view the provision as a nightmare of paperwork and accounting for as many as 30 million small businesses.

“This is going to kill small businesses,” Hultgren said.

Check out the rest of the article to see what his opponent, Bill Foster, said about Obamacare.

What If It Was Your Child Being Deployed?– Part I

From the Office of State Senator Chris Lauzen (25th District)…

(Part One of a Two-Part Series)

If it was your son or daughter who was being deployed to Afghanistan or Iraq, what would be your opinion of these wars?

I recognize that I’m no foreign policy or military strategy expert, but I can see how bravely parents of deployed troops silently bear their pain and fear. I watch how intensely Mike and Cindy pray for the safety of their sons and their comrades at church each Sunday—almost holding their breath until they return home. At the local grocery store, you see mothers staring at the cereal displays lost in their private thoughts. When I ask how their military son or daughter is doing, they answer with nervous pride, and we both avoid that deeper emotion that’s like adding one more drop of water to a glass full to the brim before it overflows.

How To Keep An Economy Down

-By From US Congressman Peter Roskam

If you haven’t been paying attention to the tax cut debate yet, you need to take a few minutes to find out how Democrat Leaders in Congress are set to deliver a one-two punch to the American public in the form of higher taxes on families and small businesses. At this time of economic uncertainty and sluggish growth, an across-the-board tax increase on families and individuals promises to keep the economy on its knees.

Starting January 1, 2011, new tax rates will kick in across the board, raising taxes on American families and small businesses by a staggering $3.8 trillion, from those in the lowest tax bracket and continuing all the way up the economic ladder. The Tax Foundation, a non-partisan, independent research organization estimates that an average family of the Sixth Congressional District will see their income taxes increase $1,972. At a time when many Americans are struggling to make ends meet, this misguided policy will take more money out of the pockets of individuals in order to fuel more of the wasteful government spending that is on track to triple our national debt.

John Garrido for 45th Ward Alderman

Think about the opportunity to have an Alderman on the city council who will:

  • Actually read city ordinances and raise common sense questions before voting on them;
  • Demand resources for public safety by properly staffing and equipping the Chicago Police and Fire Departments;
  • Speak out against selling off any more of our precious assets like they did with our parking meters and the skyway;
  • Be an advocate for small businesses who can bring jobs and revenue to our neighborhoods;
  • Never vote for a tax increase, but instead demand we properly manage our resources;
  • Welcome citizen interaction and work closely with neighborhood associations to rebuild and develop our Ward.

This is our chance to add to the growing independence on the city council and give true representation to the citizens of Chicago.

Hey, Walter Fauntroy, the Ku Klux Klan was the Terrorist Wing of the Democratic Party

-By Michael Zak

Tomorrow’s Restoring Honor rally at the Lincoln Memorial has the Democrats in a panic. They’re afraid of Glenn Beck and Sarah Palin speaking Truth to Power.

At the National Press Club, Walter Fauntroy falsely accused the Tea Party of having ties to the Ku Klux Klan. In the many years Fauntroy was Delegate for the District of Columbia, he was a member of Congressional Black Caucus, an organization that excludes people on the basis of race. Blind to his hypocrisy, he has falsely accused a political movement open to all races, the Tea Party, of being racist. Speaking at the National Press Club, Fauntroy said: “We are going to take on the barbarism of war, the decadence of racism, and the scourge of poverty, that the Ku Klux — I meant to say the Tea Party… You all forgive me, but I — you have to use them interchangeably.”

Now is the time to speak Truth to Power.

Hultgren Presents Plan For Revitalizing The U.S. Economy, Getting Americans Back To Work

From the Hultgren for Congress campaign (14th District)…

ST. CHARLES – State Senator Randy Hultgren, Republican candidate for Congress in Illinois’ 14th District, today outlined his positive vision for reviving the economy and putting Americans back to work. Speaking to more than fifty people at a luncheon hosted by the St. Charles Chamber of Commerce, Hultgren discussed the current economic climate; Washington’s failure to address the issues confronting American employers and workers; and his economic priorities.

“All across the 14th District, people are worried about the future. Many of our friends, neighbors and family members are experiencing the effects of unemployment as a result of the alarming jobless rate in our district that has consistently exceeded the State and National averages, and, many of those who do have jobs are underemployed. Our homes are worth less than when we bought them, and when we go to the store or the mall, we’re not spending as much as we used to because we don’t know what tomorrow holds.

“Unfortunately, our elected officials in Washington are making things worse. Last year, Congress passed a massive stimulus telling us it would keep unemployment below 8 percent; now, economists predict that 9.5 percent national unemployment is here to stay through at least next year. This year, they passed a huge, expensive health care bill that imposes new, burdensome regulations on our small business owners, while failing to address the high costs of health care.

“What Congress is talking about doing is just as bad or worse than what they have actually done. The atmosphere of uncertainty created by out-of-touch politicians and Washington bureaucrats means that business owners don’t know what new rules and regulations may be forced upon them tomorrow, so they are unwilling to expand, invest or hire new workers.

“What Washington needs to do instead – and what I would do if elected – is to cut taxes, reduce spending, and reform the way our government works. Congress also needs to address its role in creating the housing bubble that led to the current economic crisis. Even though a financial regulation “reform” bill was recently signed into law, it did nothing to reform the big government sponsored enterprises – Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac and Ginnie Mae – that backed nearly 97 percent of all U.S. mortgages.

“But most of all, Congress needs to remember who they work for: their constituents. As an elected official, I have always listened, always been respectful to everyone, always kept an open door, and never hid from my constituents, because they’re the people I work for. As a State Senator, I have 200,000 employers I am grateful to report to; hopefully, after November, I’ll have the honor of serving 700,000 employers across this district.”

Sam McCann says, “enough is enough.” A small business owner with a 17-year record of creating jobs, Sam wants to take his experience and leadership to Springfield. He believes that creating jobs and attracting employers is the only way to rebuild the economy and get people back to work in Illinois.

Roskam Seeks Increased Transparency in the House‏

From the office of Congressman Peter Roskam (R, ILL)…

As you may know, House Republicans recently rolled out a series of innovative tools for Americans to interact with their government and provide feedback on the issues facing our country today. These efforts, AmericaSpeakingOut.com and YouCut, are examples of the type of transparent and responsive leadership House Republicans will provide if we take back the majority in November.

I’ve had the privilege of serving on the forefront of this effort as the Vice Chairman and Job Creation Policy Director for AmericaSpeakingOut.com. Recently, House Republican Leader John Boehner, Rep. Aaron Schock, and I met with several organizations representing a range of businesses nationwide, organizations like the National Association of Manufacturers and National Federation of Independent Businesses. The purpose of this meeting was to hear suggestions directly from businesses responsible for creating jobs, generating growth, and restoring our economy to prosperity.

(17th District) Bobby Schilling: Rep. Hare and I Have Very Different Versions of Winning

” The big win, from my perspective, is health care.”
-Rep. Phil Hare, August 17, on his major accomplishments in Congress this year.

Thanks to the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act………………..

Our national deficit will continue to grow. Just a month after the bill passed the Congressional Budget Office announced it would actually cost $115 billion more than previously thought, bringing the total cost to more than $1 trillion.

Higher taxes will be imposed on small businesses. While politicians like Rep. Hare claim to be fighting for small business, the real business owners, like those represented by the non-partisan National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB), were not so easily fooled. “The fundamental mission of our organization is to promote and protect the rights of small businesses and the self-employed to own, operate and grow their business and this health care law directly undermines this core value,” wrote the NFIB president in a statement following the vote. The NFIB joined the 20 other states in the lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of the bill.

More people will lose jobs. In a study published several months before the vote, the non-partisan Illinois Policy Institute predicted the bill would cost Illinois 169,000 jobs. Newly added provisions in the bill are expected to significantly increase this number. Major employers in the17th district like Caterpillar and John Deere will see their costs rise by $100 million and $150 million respectively, in the first year alone. Why would any company hire workers when their costs are increasing by hundreds of millions of dollars? They won’t.

Our quality of care will decrease. Rep. Hare assured the 8 in 10 Americans happy with their health care they would be able to keep their current plans. However, according to the Associated Press, the Obama Administration itself, “estimates that many employers will be forced to make changes to their health plans under the new law. In just three years, a majority of workers-51 percent-will be in plans subject to new federal requirements.” In addition, the Obama Administration has acknowledged that “health insurance plans that are now offered by small businesses probably will not survive the transition to a regulated marketplace.”

Our cost of care will increase. Obamacare imposes billions of dollars in annual fees and taxes on drug manufacturers, prescription drug importers, and health insurance plans. Moreover, the bill establishes new taxes on certain retail sales by manufacturers and importers of medical devices. According to The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) these fees and taxes, “would generally be passed through to health consumers in the form of higher drug and device prices and higher insurance premiums.

Seniors will see major cuts in Medicare. The most drastic cuts ($132 billion), will be made to the popular Medicare Advantage program. Additionally, Medicare payments for home health care will be reduced by $40 billion and payments to certain hospitals will be cut by $22 billion.

Meet Adam Baumgartner, GOP Candidate for the State Senate (40th District)

A note from the Republican State Senate Campaign Committee of Illinois…

During the past year, Illinois’ debt and bill backlogs have continued to climb, even as state spending continues virtually unchecked. The state’s Democrat leaders response is to push for tax increases and increased borrowing as a way to solve Illinois’ fiscal problems. As a small business owner, Adam Baumgartner knows that increasing taxes and revenue gimmicks are not the way for Illinois to rebuild its economy.

The owner of six businesses employing more than 50 people, Springfield needs Adam’s job-creating skills and commonsense approach to management. As Director of the Peotone Chamber of Commerce, he understands the impact burdensome taxes and fees have on the state’s business community—and, as a result, the state’s economy.

A Tour of Illinois’ Criminal Governors

-By Warner Todd Huston

With the recent result of the latest trial and conviction of former Illinois Governor Democrat Rod Blagojevich, it is interesting to take a little tour of all the Illinois Governors that were indicted at one time or another. Some of them even served time.

It appears that the number of indicted Illinois Democrats beats the Republicans by one with four Democrats indicted to the Republican’s three. On the other hand, the ones jailed is top heavy with Democrats with two Democrats jailed to only one Republican jailed. And one more Democrat will be serving time once Blagojevich’s trials are all done and over making it three to one.

As you read this list, folks, remember that THIS is the state where President Barack Obama learned his politics.

Here is the list…

Joel A. Matteson (1853 – 1857)
Party: Democrat
Charge: Embezzling
Verdict: Not convicted

Len Small (1921 – 1929)
Party: Republican
Charge: Embezzling $2 million when he was State Treasurer
Verdict: Acquitted (but jury tampering is suspected as 4 of the jurors ended up with new state jobs)

William Stratton (1953 – 1961)
Party: Republican
Charge: Cheating on Taxes by using political contributions for personal expenses
Verdict: Acquitted

Otto Kerner (1961 – 1968)
Party: Democrat
Charge: Bribery, perjury, bag man for racetrack industry
Verdict: Convicted, sentenced to 3 years, served 7 months

Dan Walker (1973 – 1977)
Party: Democrat
Charge: Bank fraud and perjury
Verdict: Guilty, sentenced to 7 years, served 17 months

George Ryan (1999 – 2003)
Party: Republican
Charge: Conspiracy, racketeering
Verdict: Guilty, sentenced to 6 1/2 years. Still serving.

Rod Blagojevich (2004 – 2009)
Party: Democrat
Charge: Extortion, lying to the feds, selling a U.S. Senate seat
Verdict: Guilty so far on one count of lying to the feds, re-trial being scheduled.

Who is ‘Extreme’ Again, Mr. Obama?

The National Republican Senatorial Committee put out a good one…

Barack Jennings Obama

-By Michael Zak

A young, inexperienced orator captures the Democratic presidential nomination and squares off against the war hero and senior statesman nominated by the Republicans. Speaking as if from a pulpit, in a style learned from fiery preachers, the magnetic newcomer had the crowds swooning. I’m referring, of course, to the presidential election of 1896.

That year, the Democratic Party was sharply divided between an establishment faction led by President Grover Cleveland and those who wanted even more government control over the economy. This leftist faction also advocated “free silver.” What was that all about, anyway? The free (as in, unlimited) coinage of silver would have combined increasing the money supply, to help farmers deep in debt, with boosting demand for silver, to assist miners in the Rocky Mountain region.

Politico Ignores Dems. Culture of Corruption to Talk of GOP’s ‘Offbeat Candidates’

-By Warner Todd Huston

Interestingly, Politico is trying to rearrange this election’s narrative from the real one of widespread voter dissatisfaction with the Democrat status quo to one of “offbeat GOP candidates” that will “hurt the GOP.”

Gee, why would that be, eh?

As Democrats all across the land are either stepping aside so as not to face difficult reelection campaigns, or losing their incumbent seats to primary challenges, the latest polls show the GOP beating the heck out of Democrats on a generic ballot. Further, Republican voters are energized as never before and 57% of poll respondents even say that the Democrat’s agenda is “too extreme.” But even with all this Politico sees defeat in the wind for the GOP. They’d be about the only ones that do, too.

Not make a big deal of it? Why in the name of all things political would the leader of a Party throw away one of the best things that could happen to his party: the conviction of the other party’s head man?

When asked about the Blago verdict, Brady said, “You know, we could make a lot of political hay out of it. I don’t think we will, because [I’ll] just [be] relieved it’s over.”

We won’t make any political hay out of it?

Ill. State Rep. Randy Ramey (55th District) Will Introduce Arizona-Style Anti-Illegal Immigrant Law in Springfield

-By Warner Todd Huston

On August 8, Representative Randy Ramey of the 55th District told an audience at the Tri-County Tea Party that he’d introduce a law in Illinois that mirrors Arizona’s anti-illegal immigrant law.

Ramey told the crowd that in August he would be introducing the Arizona-like law here in Illinois “in the next few weeks.”

On what that law means, Ramey said, “We’re not pulling people off the streets, we’re not pulling them out of ice cream stores, we are not taking them out of their houses.”

“If you break the law, they’re going to ask you for your identification. If you don’t have your identification then they can start asking questions about your naturalization and are you a citizen of this country. It’s that simple ladies and gentlemen and that’s what we’re going to take care of here in Illinois.”

Those (Liberal) Voices Don’t Speak For The Rest of Us

The Republican Study Committee has unveiled a great ad contrasting what Republicans believe and what Democrats believe. Juxtaposing one of Reagan’s great speeches with the words of the Democrats of today, the ad shows how Republicans venerate freedom while Democrats venerate their own power and an ability to command and control all of us. As Reagan said, “Those Voices Don’t Speak For The Rest of Us.”

The Reagan part was pulled from his “A Time For Choosing” Speech from 1964. View the speech HERE.

The only problem as I see it with this video is that the viewer has to know all these people. They have to know who the Democrats are that appear in the video and that they are all from today. This ad is good for those informed enough but not good for those who are clueless as to who the Dems presented are. Still. It’s a good, powerful ad for those that are informed on who is who in Washington today.

It reminds me of my own video. I called it “They Tell Us What They Are.”

Survey of Dem’s Most Loved Republicans: A Guide on Whom to Fire?

-By Warner Todd Huston

The Hill conducted its annual survey of how congressmen feel about each other and the answers are instructive. The survey found that Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D. Calif.) is the most partisan, unwelcoming, hard to work with politician in all of the House of Representatives. But the list of Republicans that congressional leftists love should serve as the list of those voters should fire in November and after.

The Hill, however, did have an interesting point on why the extremist, left-wing, loud, hectoring, shrill Pelosi has been able to so easily get her anti-American policy agenda through Congress. She has a willing and able assistant in Steny Hoyer (D, Md.), a man that many congressmen like and find not to be the wholly leftist ideologue that Pelosi is.

As The Hill puts it, it’s sort of a good-cop-bad-cop relationship. The shrill Pelosi makes her extremist demands but it is the smooth, seemingly moderate Hoyer that gets people to sign on to those demands.
