No, Daily Caller, Rush Will Not Back a Candidate in the Primary

-By Warner Todd Huston

The Daily Caller posted an Op Ed calling on Rush Limbaugh to save the GOP by offering a clinching endorsement of one of the non-Romney candidates. The writer was full of reasons and praise for the most listened-to radio talker, but for all the importuning, Rush will never back a primary candidate. The truth is, there just isn’t anything in it for him.

The writer, Yates Walker, says that short of some action by Rush, Romney will be the GOP nominee. Romney’s big money and ubiquitous support among the ignoratti of the GOP elites will be too much for any candidate to overcome unless Rush plays the wild card, he says.

Walker fears that if Rush doesn’t speak, it will all be over.

If Rush doesn’t make a move, recent history will repeat itself. Romney’s multimillion-dollar ad buys and the mainstream media will destroy Rick Santorum before the end of January. Though he is an excellent conservative candidate and could beat Obama in 2012, Rick will be called “unelectable” by so many pundits over the next three weeks that it will become conventional wisdom. The conservative vote will split between Santorum, Gingrich, Perry and Huntsman. Ron Paul will take his customary 12-20%. And Romney’s quarter of the GOP vote will be good enough to win … unless Mr. Limbaugh decides to intervene.

Walker goes on to say that Rush has been “toying” with crushing Mitt for months and that Rush must be “chomping at the bit” to do so.

An Example of Why Radio Host Michael Medved is No Conservative

-By Warner Todd Huston

Michael Medved is touted as a “conservative” radio host from the Salem Radio Network. But just how conservative is he? One has to wonder with his constant dismissive attacks against any and every conservative politician. But this week he revealed another reason why he is less conservative than he pretends.

Medved started his political life working for the Kennedy’s in the 60s, so like many young people he started out as a liberal. But from his radio show yesterday it seems pretty plain that he never really turned the corner from a big government liberal to a true conservative. He obviously still has a ton of far left beliefs in the wondermentatudenousness that is government.

The subject of Obama’s tax on the Christian Christmas icon, the Christmas tree came up on his Tuesday radio program. Obama floated the idea that a 15 cents per tree federal tax should be put on Christmas trees this year to fund another bloated boondoggle government agency.

RIP Chicago Conservative Icon, Tom Roeser

-By Warner Todd Huston

Over the weekend Thomas Roeser passed from us. For decades, Roeser was one of Chicago’s most visible and versatile conservatives. Roeser was 82.

Roeser had a long career in politics once serving in the Nixon administration as an assistant commerce secretary. He left that position over a disagreement over his advocacy of the program meant to help minority owned small businesses.

From this point he came back to Chicago as the quintessential Republican reformer that he remained to his last days.

Roeser was a key member of the City Club of Chicago and was a long time talk radio host of WLS AM as well as a columnist for the Chicago Sun-Times. Additionally, Roeser was the publisher of the Chicago Daily Observer.

Tom Roeser was also a stalwart defender of the Catholic faith.

The Chicago Daily Observer has a round up of memorial articles.

Beck Bounced but Barely Bruised – Will the Left Ever Do Right?

-By Rev Michael Bresciani‏

The left is gloating over Beck’s demise since Fox has decided to let his daily shows dissolve sometime later this year. The cause cited is the lack of sponsors willing to back the show. Some 300 sponsors have dropped the show.

Is Beck a causality of the culture war or just more proof that whether you’re right or lefty the buck rules? It would be all too easy to accept the latter conclusion but with all the facts in, it can be seen as none other than a sweeping victory for the left. In essence the left understood what any good military strategist knows that the first thing to strike is the supply lines and depots in order to slow an army to a crawl or stop it in its tracks.

WGN’s Dean Richards: An Example of Chicago’s Rahm-Devoted Media

-By Warner Todd Huston

WGN AM 720 radio is one of the biggest radio stations in the country. It is traditionally one of Chicago’s most listened to radio stations and commonly tunes in as Chicago’s number one station. At least for the past few decades, WGN radio has also been the leading liberal station in the city. One thing WGN is not, however, is either edgy or independent of thought where it concerns Chicago’s ruling class. As a rule WGN is soldout all down the line to whomever is “the” Chicago guy.

This weekend Dean Richards, one of WGN’s weekend guys, employed the sort of “analysis” of Chicago’s mayoral election that tends to speak of what the station evidently feels must be the outcome of the election It was a not-so-subtle hint that Rahm Emanuel is the choice to take City Hall.

Richards took a segment of his weekend radio program to discuss the mayor’s race and the specific topic centered around candidate Gery Chico’s first major TV ad against Emanuel.

Is it Time to Expand the Fairness Doctrine?

-By Selwyn Duke

In keeping with the demagogue’s credo “Never let a good tragedy go to waste,” some among us are extracting as much mileage from the Jared Loughner massacre as they can. It is being used to raise money and reduce freedom, with the latter amounting to calls for gun and speech control. And among these calls is the proposal to resurrect the Fairness Doctrine (FD).

The basic idea behind the legislation is that if a radio station airs some controversial opinion, time must be provided for the “other side.” And quite coincidentally, I’m sure, this is only to be applied to talk radio, an arena in which the “other side” happens to be the left side.

Conservatives, of course, are opposed to this, and, with their control of Congress, the FD won’t emerge from that chamber. But they are missing a grand opportunity, a chance to exhibit that much ballyhooed thing called bi-partisanship. I suggest that we don’t have to fight over the FD, as we can come together over the following proposal: Not only reinstitute the legislation – expand it.

Petty RI Gov. Bans Talk Radio Appearances for State Workers

-By Warner Todd Huston

Lincoln Chafee was the bane of conservative talk radio when he was the RINO Senator from Rhode Island. Now that he is a newly minted “independent” and has become the Governor of the Ocean State, Chafee is in a position to take his revenge on the medium. And boy has this petty man used his power to do just that by banning his state employees from talking to talk radio.

Chafee has revealed some pretty warped logic to sustain his ban on talk radio, too. Through his spokesman, Chaffe said that he won’t go on talk radio because the medium is “ratings-driven, for-profit programming,” and that he doesn’t want his employees going on for the same reason.
