Walsh Wins by 290 Votes in Ill 8th

The ballots are finally all counted for the race for the 8th Congressional District in Illinois. Congratulations goes to Republican Joe Walsh who beat incumbent Democrat Melissa Bean by a scant 290 votes.

The vote tally has yet to be 100 percent certified, but it looks like Walsh is the winner.

This is quite a pickup for the GOP, too. Not only did party wonks assume that Walsh never had a chance to win this race and therefore didn’t give Walsh much help, the other side was so sure that Bean was a shoo in to be returned to Congress that they didn’t spend much money on her race either.

This one is a shock to just about everyone. One suspects even Walsh is surprised.

So, congrats to Congressman elect Joe Walsh, 8th District.

On October 9th, 2010, Illinois Representative Melissa Bean (D) Illinois 8th district was a “No” show for a debate at the Civic Center located in Round Lake Beach. There were several questions asked to Melissa Bean’s empty table. The debate was moderated by the Mayor of Round Lake Beach.

Joe Walsh (R), Melissa Bean (D), and Green Party Candidate Bill Scheurer were all invited to debate topics on healthcare, jobs and the economy.

The Office of Management and Budget (OMB) reported that the U.S. provided $6.347 billion to the U.N. system in FY 2009, including over $4 billion from the State Department, over $1.7 billion from US AID, over $245 million from the Department of Agriculture, and tens of millions more from the Departments of Health and Human Services, Labor, and Energy.***

This is an all-time record in U.S. financial contributions to the U.N. system but, considering recent budget trends in the U.N., the record is likely to be broken in FY 2010.

Rep. Melissa Bean’s Jackbooted… Librarians?

Last week a shocking video of a townhall of sorts held by Chicago, Illinois area Congressman Melissa Bean (D, 8th District) was released that seemed to show that she’d hired a couple of thugs to intimidate attendees from asking her questions that she didn’t want to answer.

The video kicked up a bit of controversy on both sides of the aisle. Conservatives pointed out that Rep. Bean was not only avoiding questions from her constituents, but sending her thugs to discourage those questions. Liberals said that the video was heavily edited and that the thugs were really merely “security guards” hired by the library, not Bean’s thugs.

But the liberal’s protest that these guys were “just” security guards hired by the library that was hosting the meeting does not explain why these guys walked over to the audience members to tower over them as they attempted to ask the Congressman a question. If these guys were not hired by Bean and if they were just there to assure that the townhall went without violence, they would more likely not have been interested in what participants were saying but only should they have gotten out of hand. None of the videos, not the admittedly edited one, nor the uncut one, shows anyone getting out of hand. No one attending this meeting was in need of the intervention of library “security” agents.

Congressman Melissa “No Questions Please” Bean And Her Intimidating Enforcers

It is interesting to watch this video of a recent townhall held by Chicago area Congressman Melissa Bean (8th District). First she does her level best to avoid actually answering any questions and then when a constituent gets tired of the tap dancing she sends a guy that looks like a bar bouncer over to that person to stand over them in a threatening manner.

Notice that the enforcer comes over to intimidate not just the guy making the video here but another constituent, a middle aged woman.

Also I love the part about the questions. The congressman is right there for everyone to ask questions of her, yet she tells them to email her? Really? Email!?

(Palatine, Illinois) – The Democrats were in such a rush to pass the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ObamaCare) before they wrote it, they did not notice it was missing the ‘severability’ clause. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said it best, “We have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it.”

Investopedia defines a ‘severability’ clause as, “a contract with a severability clause is essentially one contract divided into many different parts: default on one component of the contract does not prevent the rest of the contract from being fulfilled. If a sentence, clause or term in a contract is deemed invalid by a court, then this problem area of the contract will most often be rewritten to fit both the contract’s original intent and the requirements of the court”.

If a court rules any part of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act as unconstitutional it will likely mean the entire law will be thrown out.

If Melissa Bean read the 2,400 page Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act then why did a 3 term congresswoman not notice the missing ‘severability’ clause?

(Palatine, Illinois) – Our public National Debt has passed $13,000,000,000,000* for the first time in our history. That is a debt per citizen of $42,030* and a debt per taxpayer of $117,992*.

It is even worse when the unfunded liabilities for Social Security, Prescription Drug, and Medicare are included which will add an additional $108,775,000,000,000+*.

In addition, just this month the CBO stated that the legislation will cost an additional $115 Billion more than originally assumed. This puts the total cost of Obamacare well OVER $1 Trillion.

(Palatine, Illinois) – The Palatine Tea Party will debate Melissa Bean on any of the Healthcare topics covered in her letter to constituents in district 8 dated April 16, 2010. Anytime and any place. If she has read the Healthcare bill and understands its parts then she should not have an issue with this open debate. It’s time for her to actually prove if she understands what she voted for and not hide behind talking points. It’s time to directly talk to the constituents in district 8.

Failing to accept this debate will clearly indication she voted YES on the Healthcare bill affecting all the people in district 8 without reading and understanding the Healthcare bill and can not even debate her own letter to the constituents in district 8 that she is to represent.

Pundits Missed that Illinois Started Tea Party/Anti-Establishment Primary Revolt

Political pundits and poll watchers all across the nation are abuzz with the “tea party win” of Rand Paul, winner of the Kentucky primary for U.S. Senator. Mr. Paul was not the party favored candidate but was supported by Kentucky’s Tea Party movement and this is being hailed as something of a first, an example that the incumbents are in trouble and the establishment is on the outs with voters. But the pundits seem to have entirely missed that this trend started in the nation’s first primary in Illinois back in February.

Three primary races in Illinois gave the first hint that the establishment candidates were going to find it hard sledding in 2010 because in the Illinois 14th, 10th and 8th Districts every party establishment candidate lost his or her primary and a tea party candidate or outsider won.

To be sure, the Illinois GOP is not much in favor with any of its voters, but the Illinois GOP has been nothing if not a power party that was always in the past able to force its own special picks down everyone’s throat in the Land of Lincoln. The 2010 primary, however, showed a chink in that armor.

In response to the letter Melissa Bean wrote to the constituents in district 8 dated April 16, 2010. We will respond to each of her statements Melissa Bean made based on emotion with factual responses where she stated the following:

“This law ensures that no insurance company or government bureaucrat interferes with doctor and patient decisions.”

The fact that this legislation contains more than $500 Billion in Medicare cuts is a PERFECT example of government bureaucrats INTERFERING with doctor and patient decisions. The 21% reduction in payments to physicians who accept Medicare will most certainly guarantee less doctors accepting Medicare. This will have a DIRECT affect on both the quality of care that our seniors enjoy now and the ABILITY to even OBTAIN care. Add to that the SWEEPING powers given to the Secretary of Health & Human Services, Kathleen Sebelius (an ATTORNEY NOT A PHYSICIAN) and we are GUARANTEED to see a reduction in services based on cost.
