Our Constitution is supposed to take precedence over all foreign laws or any arrogant edicts from the fetid U.N. But now Obama has made a move that would put the mechanics of the response to terrorism in some of our biggest cities in the hands of foreigners. President Obama has essentially just signed away U.S. sovereignty.
In August U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch announced that the Obama administration signed onto what is essentially a new international police operation with an initiative called Strong Cities Network (SCN). Lynch reported that this new organization would be operating out of some of the country’s largest cities.
Naturally, despite that this new policing initiative is essentially a U.N. treaty, Obama never presented the plan to Congress for approval. Bypassing our elected officials, Obama singed onto the U.N. effort on his own hook.
The new effort was announced in a press release last week with a statement headlined, “Launch of Strong Cities Network to Strengthen Community Resilience Against Violent Extremism.”
In the statement, the Department of Justice claimed that “while many cities and local authorities are developing innovative responses to address this challenge, no systematic efforts are in place to share experiences, pool resources and build a community of cities to inspire local action on a global scale.”
“The Strong Cities Network will serve as a vital tool to strengthen capacity-building and improve collaboration,” the statement says quoting AG Lynch. “As we continue to counter a range of domestic and global terror threats, this innovative platform will enable cities to learn from one another, to develop best practices and to build social cohesion and community resilience here at home and around the world.”
Much of the work this initiative will do seems to be centered on creating a retinue of “good practices” and rules to govern how cities respond to these terror threats, meaning that the U.N. will be programing the policing agencies in some of America’s largest cities.
But just what threats is this SCN being tasked with identifying and heading off? It is instructive to review just who the Obama administration calls a “terrorist.”
Obama’s Homeland Security chief, Jeh Johnson, for instance, has steadfastly refused to say that Muslims are or can be terrorists. In July, Johnson insisted that ISIS terror, lone wolf Islamic terror attacks, or groups such as al Qaeda should not be called “Muslims” and that saying terror in the name of Islam is an example of “Islamic extremism” is not at all the proper way to refer to it.
“I believe strongly–and I hear this over and over again from Muslim leaders in this country–that to refer to ISIL as ‘Islamic extremism’ concedes too much. It dignifies them as occupying some part of the Islamic faith, which is about peace,” Johnson insisted at a July security forum.
And even as homegrown or imported Jihadi attacks and threats thereof have grown in the U.S. since he was first elected in 2008, Obama’s administration has put out report after report identifying conservatives, tea partiers, patriots, “militias,” and even our veterans as the real security threat.
The Obama administration’s participation in this international policing initiative has caused many to wonder if this president is signing away our sovereignty. Pamela Geller at Breitbart News, for one, is sounding the alarm bells saying that Obama is no less than committed to an “abdication of American sovereignty.”
