8th District: Statement from Joe Walsh in Response to Vendor Lawsuit

From the Joe Walsh for Congress campaign…

We must be doing something right.

Twelve days before the election, our grassroots movement has all the momentum in the world and we’re on the verge of winning because most people in the 8th district feel the exact same way as I do – we want to put an end to all this government spending and growth. Our internal-polling confirms this and shows me the front-runner.

Dan Hynes With A Classic Chicago Dirty Political Trick Commercial

-By Warner Todd Huston

Current State Comptroller Dan Hynes is running for the Democrat Party nomination for governor. He’s been struggling a bit in the polls to incumbent accidental Governor Pat Quinn, so in a classic Chicago dirty trick styled TV ad, Dan Hynes broke out the big guns intended to undercut Pat Quinn’s support in the black community… and he’s reached back over 20 years to do it.

Remember Chicago Mayor Harold Washington…

Boy does that bring back memories. And did Harold have a way with words, er what? We’ve had three recent mayors that have known how to turn a phrase. Mayor Daley Senior with his “the police aren’t here to create disorder, they’re here to preserve disorder,” Mayor Washington with his “that’s hubris,” and junior Daly with…. well, anything the goofball says.

Anyway, back to Hynes. This is a classic Chicago hardball maneuver. Hauling Mayor Washington back from the dead to lambaste Pat Quinn is just classic.

But what is most amazing is the chutzpah that Hynes is showing. After all, when Harold Washington became Mayor of Chicago in 1983 Dan Hynes’ father Thomas was so peeved that a black guy won the big chair that when Harold came up for reelection Hynes quit the Democrat Party and tried to start a new party (the Chicago First Party) in order to oust Harold from office. And here is son of Hynes using Harold as a personal flak!

That there’s some major Chicaga balls, them is.

One Down, Bob Schillerstrom Drops Bid for Gov.

The worst of the candidates for Illinois Governor has announced that he is dropping his bid for the office. Bob Schillerstrom has quit the race and is throwing his support behind Jim Ryan.

On his campaign website, Schilerstrom has a thank you letter to his supporters and says that Jim Ryan “stands out as a man of integrity” which is why he is supporting Ryan for Governor.

If you ask me, Ryan should leave the race right along with Schillerstrom. They are both against the Constitution. While they are at it, they should take McKenna with ’em.

Bob Schillerstrom ran as a fiscal conservative, but he is an abortion supporter and is against our Second Amendment rights. The sooner this guy disappears from the political scene the better.

This leaves too many still vying for the nomination, though.

Adam Andrzejewski: “A Breath of Fresh Air for Illinois”

From the Adam Andrzejewski for Governor campaign…

At a press conference on Tuesday, January 19, at the University Club of Chicago, former conservative State Senator and gubernatorial candidate, Patrick O’Malley issued his endorsement of my campaign.

Mr. O’Malley served as a Republican member of the Illinois State Senate, having been elected three times in a swing district that went to the Democrats after his retirement in 2003. While a State Senator, he was a member of a group of conservative state senators elected in 1992 who often challenged the leadership of the Illinois Republican Party and were dubbed the “Fab Five.”

Andrzejewski Congratulates Senator-Elect Scott Brown,

From the Adam Andrzejewski for Governor campaign…

Elmhurst, Illinois – Conservative Republican candidate for Governor, Adam Andrzejewski, released the following statement in response to Senator-Elect Scott Brown’s victory last night in the Massachusetts special election for United States Senate:

“Congratulations to Senator-Elect Scott Brown, the citizens of Massachusetts, and the tea party patriots on their historic victory tonight. The voters sent a strong message that the “Kennedy” seat belongs to the people and the people will not stand for big government.” The downstate Herscher, IL native issued a congratulatory video response, which can be found on his YouTube Channel or by visiting http://bit.ly/5uCUIg.

James Madison in 1788, speaking to the Virginia Convention, stated: “Since the general civilization of mankind, I believe there are more instances of the abridgment of the freedom of the people by gradual and silent encroachment of those in power, than by violent and sudden usurpations.”

The victory in Massachusetts is a referendum on government encroachment and draws a line in the sand that Congress dare not cross.

As Dr. Edwin Feulner, President of The Heritage Foundation warns, “There are no permanent victories in Washington.”

We must remain vigilant and continue to fight big government at all levels.

With Republican victories in New Jersey and Massachusetts, we must now turn our attention to our own state. We have the opportunity to make Illinois the beacon of conservative values and principles in the United States.

We are no longer the silent majority. It is time to forge a new day in Illinois.

A New Day video can be found on Andrzejewski’s WhyVoteAdam.com YouTube Channel.

Dan Proft: Renounce that Union Endorsement, Kirk

-By Warner Todd Huston

I asked the same question as Mr. Proft… just what did the teachers union the Illinois Education Association (IEA) see in Mr Dillard so that they felt comfortable endorsing him?

Dan Proft wants Dillard to renounce the union endorsement. Proft says we need someone to “take the fight to the IEA,” not bend to their desires.

I agree.

Jim Ryan: Let Me Be Clear — Taxes Would be a Poison Pill for Our Economy

From the Jim Ryan for Governor campaign…

While some candidates try to distort my position on taxes — I made my intentions perfectly clear in last week’s gubernatorial debate: I won’t raise taxes, because it would be disastrous for our economy.

We have a major spending problem in this state — a problem that would not have occurred had I been elected in 2002. At that time, I proposed a common sense Constitutional amendment that would have capped Illinois government spending.

Ill. GOP Chairman Reacts to Guv’s State of State Report

-By Warner Todd Huston

Just got a reply to Governor Pat Quinn’s laughable State of the State address issued by Chairman Pat Brady of the Illinois Republican Party…

“Governor Quinn’s State of the State address today exemplifies the Illinois Democratic Party’s disconnect from reality. We are a state on the verge of financial collapse. A laundry list of government created jobs, government programs and a bail-out from the Federal Government is not a serious approach to economic and fiscal recovery. We can’t wish away a $90 billion unfunded pension liability.”

“The People of the State of Illinois will have a clear choice in November between the failed policies of the Quinn/Blagojevich/Madigan single-party rule Democrats and the fiscally responsible approach to running this state articulated by each of our Republican Gubernatorial candidates.”

Fiscal Realism: Interview With Adam Andrzejewski Candidate for Illinois Governor

-By Warner Todd Huston

First of all, I know it looks impossible to even say, so let’s clear up that last name. It’s pronounced An-gee-ef-ski. I know, I know, that means here in Illinois we could possibly go from a Governor Blagojevich to an Andrzejewski. But the difficult last name should stand as the only similarity between the two men, for Adam seems to have some ideas on how Illinois might get out of its fiscal nightmare. I interviewed him not long ago and he had some very interesting thoughts on how to fix Illinois. (adamforillinois.com)

In fact, Andrzejewski has already made some headway in shining the sunlight of accountability on various sate and local agencies through his self-funded program — self-funded to stay independent, he said — dubbed “For the Good of Illinois.” Andrzejewski has been at the vanguard of encouraging school boards and county governments in Illinois to put their check registries and finances on the Internet for all citizens to see. In fact, his catch phrase is “every dime online in real time.”

From the Kirk Dillard for Governor campaign…

(Lisle, IL) – Illinois Republican candidate for governor Kirk Dillard today challenged his GOP opponents on judgment and ethics, arguing he has the best record and the experience to make Illinois work again.

“With our state in crisis, we need someone who can exercise sound judgment,” Dillard told a City Club forum in Chicago. “It is vital that the voters closely evaluate every candidate to determine who has the ethical judgment and leadership necessary to turn our state around and balance the state budget without the need for a tax increase.”

Chairman Brady, McKenna Owes the Ill. GOP Twenty-five Grand

-By Warner Todd Huston

Last April current gubernatorial candidate Andy McKenna was the Chairman of the Illinois Republican Party. At that time Party money paid for a poll to determine what the level of support was for the various Illinois Republicans that were considering, or might consider, a run for governor.

McKenna is now admitting that his name appeared on that poll at his own bidding and this was a violation of the pledge he took upon taking the GOP chairman’s seat. Like all other Chairmen, McKenna pledged to work for the party and not his own candidacy once he took the GOP chief’s role.

McKenna now admits that he directed that the poll include his own name despite that he pledged not to push his own candidacy while he was the GOP Chairman. Soon after the poll was conducted McKenna quit as party chief and then announced his own run for governor. This is all in contravention to his pledge to work for the party.

One month ago the state party decided to investigate McKenna’s action and today this tepid response was issued by the party:

The State Central Committee of the Illinois Republican Party has concluded that Mr. McKenna should not have done so without prior Central Committee approval and disclosure. Mr. McKenna had no intent to violate the spirit or the intent of the Party’s by-laws and he sincerely apologizes for having done so.

Well, maybe it isn’t completely tepid in that it actually happened at all. Brady should be given some level of kudos for even starting the investigation in the first place. That in itself is a step, no matter how small, away from the good old boy’s network that affords them license for every infraction or criminal action.

Still, I think Brady should have gone farther and demanded that McKenna repay the $25,000 the party spent on the poll back in April.

Andy McKenna is a prime symbol of all that is wrong with the Illinois GOP.

Dillard: Ryan’s Blago Like Short Term Solutions

-By Warner Todd Huston

Kirk Dillard, one of the several GOP candidates for Governor, is taking issue with fellow candidate Jim Ryan’s prescription to ease the state’s budget crunch. Earlier today, Jim Ryan proposed that the state lease its tollways to a private company in order to reap a lump sum payment to fill in the holes of the current budget mess.

The tollway idea was among many ideas that Ryan proposed.

State Senator Kirk Dillard released a statement regarding lambasting Jim Ryan’s support of privatizing the tollway.

Guv Candidates on Budget Cuts

-By Warner Todd Huston

The Associated Press asked all the candidates for Illinois Governor about their position on the budget woes facing the state and they found that only one candidate (that would be Dan Proft) is offering much by way of specifics on what they’d do to cut the budget and cap state spending.

One thing that is interesting about the piece is that the AP also quoted former State Senator Steve Rauschenberger, a well known expert on the Illinois budget.

Steve Rauschenberger, a former state senator and a budget expert, said it would require, among other things, cutting school spending and switching to a voucher system, reducing the number of prison inmates by one-quarter, trimming higher education and overhauling Medicaid from top to bottom.

“Any candidate who doesn’t talk frankly about major changes … I don’t think is being realistic,” Rauschenberger said. “You can’t balance this budget simply by looking for easy efficiencies or slight reductions in head count.”

Rauscehnberger is running for his old Senate seat in the 22nd District, but he is not a current candidate for Guv, so it is a bit odd that the AP quotes him in this story. Odd, but welcome. (Steve’s FaceBook page)

It isn’t surprising that most of the candidates desperately tired to avoid specifics, sadly.

Med Marijuana Bill Supported by Some GOP Candidates

-By Warner Todd Huston

It’s pass the dutchie for three GOP candidates for governor. The Chicago Tribune asked the candidates for Governor of all parties if they’d support an expansion of allowing marijuana use for medical purposes and surprisingly found that three Republican supported the idea. Unsurprisingly, all Democrats and the Green nut also agreed with the idea, some even going further saying that marijuana use should be open for everyone, medical or no.

The Trib notes that GOP candidates Jim Ryan, Adam Andrzejewski, and Dan Proft all support the use of marijuana for medical purposes.

Those against are Bill Brady, Kirk Dillard, and Andy McKenna.

Naturally the Green nut, Rich Whitney, wants everyone to get high, and the two Democrats support medical use of the plant.
