GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump has been appearing sometimes at more than four events a day for months, now, but the media has decided that his one-hour appearance to cut the ribbon at a new hotel is somehow short shrifting his campaign and supporters. And this even as they ignore Hillary’s taking days at a time off the campaign trail and going to an Adele concert.
Always looking for the next coordinated line of attack to use as a weapon against Donald Trump, the media has been criticizing Trump for taking an hour off the campaign trail to cut the ribbon at the opening of his newest hotel.
In one Instance, CNN’s Dana Bash tried to embarrass Trump over his ribbon-cutting ceremony by employing the media’s favorite “some say” tactic.
The CNN on-air host confronted Trump as he appeared at the grand opening ceremony for his newly opened Trump hotel which is situated inside the renovated, historic Old Post Office Building in Washington D.C.
“What do you say to people who say you’re taking time out of swing states to go do this, you say…,” Bash asked as she forced a microphone in Trump’s face.
Trump had a ready reply to shut down her line of attack by noting that he has been doing rally after rally while Hillary does one here and there and then “goes home to sleep” and yet the media says nothing of Hillary’s dwindling number of appearances.
“You have been covering me for a long time,” Trump replied to the CNN host, “I did yesterday eight stops and three major speeches and I’ve been doing this for weeks straight, I left there for an hour and a half, I’m going to North Carolina right now, then I’m going to Florida, I’m going up to New Hampshire. For you to ask me that question is actually very insulting because Hillary Clinton does one stop and then she goes home and sleeps. And yet you’ll ask me that question. I think it’s a very rude question to be honest with you.”
Not to be left out of the coordinated attack, ABCs George Stephanopoulos also hit Trump with the same line of questioning.
In an October 26 interview, Stephanopoulos hit Trump with this same line asking Trump, “What do you say to supporters of yours who think you shouldn’t be taking time off the campaign trail, from the battleground states to” attend the ribbon-cutting ceremony.
Trump again replied that the criticism is “so unfair” because Hillary has not only been doing very few events compared to the long list of events Trump has done, but just this week she took time out of her campaign to attend a concert and everyone praised her for it.
“Hillary Clinton goes to see an Adele concert last night,” Trump replied, “and everybody says ‘oh isn’t that nice, isn’t that wonderful.'”
Trump noted that he is doing as many as eight stops a day and appearing before tens of thousands at every stop yet the media attacks him for taking an hour off to open his new hotel.
“I’m all over the place, but I can’t take one hour off to cut a ribbon at one of the great hotels of the world?” Trump said. “[Hillary] does one stop because she has no energy, she’s got nothing going, she does one stop and [the media doesn’t] complain about that. Nobody complains when she goes to an Adele concert all night long while I’m making two speeches at rallies with massive crowds.”
