Cook County Commish Tony Peraica: Protecting Your Hard-Earned Tax Dollars

From the office of Cook County Commissioner Tony Peraica…

Update on Our Efforts at Tax Relief and Ethics Reforms

I wanted to take this chance to update you on important developments in county government.

I am pleased to announce that the county finance committee recently passed a series of reforms to the Cook County Ethics Ordinance — one of which prohibits conflicts of interest in lobbying. Hopefully, at the next County Board meeting on October 5 the adoption of these amendments will be approved by the entire County Board.

The second item we are looking at introducing is a requirement that any future tax increase is subject to a super majority vote of the County Board. As it stands now, it is much easier to pass a tax hike in Cook County than it is to repeal it. This is wrong — and our proposal is needed to protect the taxpayers.

As you know, we were successful at rolling back one half of the one percent sales tax increase early this year — and I will not rest until we have fully repealed the Stroger sales tax increase.

I invite you to watch our brief video in which I update you on these, and other, important issues that directly impact your pocketbook:

Patlak: Questions For The Cook County Board Of Review & Tax Facts Video 5 Released‏

From the Patlak for for Cook County Board of Review…

There has been an ongoing State’s Attorney investigation regarding influence pedaling at the Board of Review for the benefit of properties within Commissioner Brendan Houlihan’s 1st District. Commissioner Houlihan has been tight mouthed about this matter and has some important questions to answer regarding his competence, culpability and lack of oversight. This is further evidence that we need greater transparency and balance on the board and Dan Patlak will provide the necessary ethical leadership. Please read the News Release from the Cook County Republican Party.

With less than one month to go before early voting begins on October 11, we are releasing our fifth Tax Facts video. This video describes the three most commonly received property tax exemptions as well as the venues available for appealing your assessment.

We are still looking for new yard sign locations as well as heavily traveled locations for our 4X4 signs. Click here to request a yard sign and write a note if you have an appropriate location for a 4X4.

Bean’s Earmarks in 2010

From the Palatine Tea Party group…

(Palatine, Illinois) – Representative Melissa Bean Illinois 8th district sponsored or co-sponsored the following 13 Earmark projects in 2010 totaling $25,271,000*. Keep in mind that 2010 is not over yet.

With record deficits in 2010 of over one trillion dollars and unemployment near 10% we can see why people are angry with members of Congress and “Voter unhappiness with Congress has reached the highest level ever recorded by Rasmussen Reports as 71% now say the legislature is doing a poor job. That’s up ten points from the previous high of 61% reached.”

Is Melissa Bean at all interested in upholding a high standard of ethics? Where is her common sense and accountability to us the United States taxpayer? This is not your money to waste!

Roskam Responds to Obama’s New Stimulus Plan‏

From the office of Congressman Peter Roskam…

Recently President Obama presented his latest plan to “stimulate” our economy. Although he’s not calling it a stimulus package, the American people are seeing it for what it is – $50 billion of additional government spending. Unfortunately for the President, we’ve already seen the failure of one stimulus, and this new plan is no different.

The Fall Campaign Starts Today with Reforms & Respect

From Illinois GOP Chairman Pat Brady…

The Illinois Republican Party’s slate of candidates will work to reform Illinois state government, restore the state’s sinking economy and return respect and integrity to Springfield in November.

There is hope for our state, and as bad as it’s been under the Blagojevich and Quinn Administrations, we must not lose heart.

This campaign is about what Republicans will do to erase our deficits, get our state’s economy moving and put people back to work. Voters have a real choice this fall: more of the same Democratic control or real, honest reforms that Republicans will fight for if given the opportunity.

Hultgren (14th District):8 Weeks Until Election Day‏

From the Hultgren for Congress campaign (14th District)…

As we enjoyed this labor day long weekend I wanted to thank you personally for your support and enthusiasm. I spent much of the last week on the road, and will be traveling across the 14th District again for the next two weeks to talk to voters about jobs and the economy.

Our representatives in Washington think they know best how to get our economy moving again, but the reality is that they’re just making things worse. We know that the private sector needs to create jobs and put people back to work, and for that to happen, Washington needs to cut the taxes and red tape that are holding us back.

This November, I believe the people of the 14th District will recognize that Washington is broken, our current Congressman is part of the problem – not the solution – and will support our campaign to get our economy back on track.

$75 million in federal disaster assistance to victims of July flooding‏

From the office of Cook COunty Commissioner Tony Peraica…

The late July flooding that ravaged much of Cook County was salt in the wounds of many individuals and employers who are already fighting to recover from the economic downturn.

Those of us in the bipartisan contingent of local elected officials who fought for the federal “disaster area” declaration were pleased when that declaration came last month. So far, upwards of $75 million in federal disaster assistance has been distributed.

Thank you to all the residents, businesses, municipalities and townships that helped distribute and gather the data collection forms which helped us in our effort to garner this federal declaration.

Bean’s Budget Plan – “Cut Wasteful Spending”

From the Palatine Tea Party…

(Palatine, Illinois) – How would Bean reach a balanced budget if she were in Congress as she said to the Daily Herald on October 27, 2002?

Bean said, “my primary tactic to reach a balanced budget would be cutting wasteful spending.”*

Bean’s Wasteful Spending

2008 earmarks of $26,842,300
2009 earmarks of $38,314,314
$787 billion stimulus bill
$26 billion jobs bill
Trillion dollar take over of our healthcare system

Your kids get the bill from my reckless behavior…

Here is one recommendation – Use Common Sense

If you are outraged with Bean’s wasteful spending, contact her local office (847) 517-2927 or DC (202) 225-3711 and vote her out in November!

Conservatives Still Fighting to Get on Illinois Ballot

-By Warner Todd Huston

Doug Ibendahl of Republican News Watch reminds me of something I should have mentioned previously. There is an entire party, one officially recognized by Illinois, that is fighting to get its slate recognized and on the 2010 ballot. The Constitution Party of Illinois was thrown off the ballot but still might have some juice left to reverse that decision.

I hadn’t posted on the struggle that the Constitution Party was going through before because frankly I expected that they wouldn’t end up having enough petition signatures to make the ballot. Turns out they did. Yet the state election board threw them off the ballot anyway and really for no legitimate reason.

The whole petition challenge aspect of Illinois politics is its most venal form of good-old-boyism. Both the GOP and the Dems work hand-in-hand to destroy anyone they don’t want on the ballot. It is disgusting, gutter politics at its worst. Not to mention that it is wholly un-American to deny the voters their choice of candidates.

Rep. Peter Roskam (R-IL) on Obamacare

Last week, Congressman Peter Roskam was a guest blogger for The Heritage Foundation

If at first you don’t succeed, change the message. That’s the lesson learned when it comes to the new trillion dollar health law passed this spring.

One of the central advocacy groups who pushed for the Obamacare recently held a confidential ”messaging” conference call with the progressive movement where they revealed the results of extensive polling on the new law. Remember when the left was confident their controversial health care vote would soon be cheered by the public? The thinking was that Jane and John Doe simply needed more time to understand the two and half thousand page bill, because the year-long health care debate wasn’t enough time for them to get a grasp on it.

Labor Day Message from Bill Brady‏

From the Brady for Illinois Governor campaign…

As we head into Labor Day, I wanted to send my personal thanks to every one for coming out and supporting our campaign as I traveled across Illinois outlining my plan for creating real jobs, and for putting Illinois back to work.

In Illinois and across America, Labor Day celebrates not only the traditional end of summer, but also the historic legacy of labor, and of the generations of working men and women who built our great nation.

But this Labor Day, as we celebrate with family and friends at hometown parades and back yard barbecues, we also remember that too many of our fellow citizens are struggling, and out of work.

American People Collateral Damage in Pelosi-Jackson War on Job Creators

From the Hayes for Congress campaign (2nd District)…

CHICAGO: Republican nominee for Illinois 2ndCongressional District Isaac Hayes released the following statement in response to today’s jobs report showing an increase in the unemployment rate.

The unemployment rate rose to 9.6% in August, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The economy also lost 54,000 jobs.

“Today’s jobs report is another sign that the Pelosi congress just doesn’t get it. Nancy Pelosi and Jesse Jackson Jr. have made it clear they want to punish job creators through higher taxes and more burdensome regulation. The collateral damage from their war on job creators is the American people who have repeatedly asked for this Congress to focus on jobs for two years. The American people have a clear choice in November – they can vote for more spending, more taxes and more economic stagnation or they can vote to get the economy growing again.”

ILL. GOP Chair Pat Brady: A Republican Tidal Wave‏

From Illinois GOP Chairman Pat Brady…

On November 2nd, Illinois will elect a Republican to the United States Senate and a Republican as the next governor of Illinois. Don’t take my word for it – that’s the latest prediction from one of America’s top political prognosticators. According to Stuart Rothenberg, “This cycle is bad for the Democrats and particularly bad for Illinois Democrats.”

He’s right. A new Politico reports a “tidal wave” might be coming for Republicans. The Hill newspaper notes Mark Kirk already leads Alexi Giannoulias 45-23 in the 19th Congressional District.

From the Schilling for Congress Campaign (17th District)…

EAST MOLINE, IL–Bobby Schilling, candidate for Congress in the Illinois 17th District, spoke out against Rep. Hare’s recent attack on a local veterans group. Schilling said that the Hare campaign is playing shameful political games by trying to silence a local veterans group simply because they are unsupportive of Hare’s re-election. Hayes Calls for Strength and not Weakness on War on Terror

From the Hayes for Congress campaign (2nd District)…

CHICAGO: Republican nominee for Illinois 2nd Congressional District Isaac Hayes released the following statement in response to President Obama’s Oval Office Speech announcing an end to combat operations in Iraq.

“Jesse Jackson Jr. supports a cut-and-run strategy in our War on Terror. He has voted multiple times against funding our troops, including under President Obama. He has also voted in favor of requiring a timetable for withdrawal from Afghanistan, discouraging our troops and encouraging our foes to mark their calendars.

“This type of weakness puts our troops in harm’s way as they valiantly continue the fight against Al-Qaeda and the Taliban. I am appalled at how soon Mr. Jackson has forgotten that the September 11, 2001 attacks were planned in Afghanistan. I am equally appalled that he would use the safety of our troops for political posturing. As President Obama stated yesterday in his address to the nation, we may disagree on strategy but we can still support the troops.

Brady for Illinois is revving up for a busy Labor Day!

A new report today by the non-partisan Civic Federation shows Illinois’ free falling bond rating and failed economic policies under Pat Quinn will cost taxpayers a whopping $550 million dollars in extra borrowing costs this year

Schilling Insists on Debates in Quincy and Macomb, Suggests opening debate broadcasts to all media outlets

From the Schilling for Congress campaign…

EAST MOLINE, IL–Bobby Schilling, Republican candidate for Congress in the Illinois 17th District, released the following statement in response to Rep. Hare’s recent demands regarding debates:

“The 17th District consists of over 650,000 people and five media markets. I don’t think that two debates carried by just two TV stations is fair to the voters. Quincy and Macomb encompass large areas of the district with thousands of voters. It makes no sense to exclude these two cities from having debates, especially when Rep. Hare agreed to have a debate in Springfield, which only encompasses 4% of the district. I also believe there is a major conflict of interest by keeping these debates exclusive to public television. Rep. Hare has direct campaign ties to the President of Network Knowledge, a company that licenses public television stations in Springfield, Macomb, and Quincy. I believe we should open the debates to all media outlets that want to broadcast them. I also believe the debates should be held in front of a live audience with each campaign getting an equal amount of tickets for attendance. This will create a fair environment with complete transparency for the voters of the 17th District.”
