Fugedaboutit: Healthcare Bill Not Socialist Enough for This Union

-By Warner Todd Huston

This is momentous news, harrowing news if you are a Democrat that wants Obamacare passed at all costs. The powerful and very rich Service Employees International Union (SEIU), is wavering in its until now stated support of Obamacare.

The Hill is reporting that the SEIU just backed out of an event promoting the Senate’s healthcare bill over “concerns” about the changes that have recently been made to get the support of Joe Lieberman and centrist Democrats.

Apparently the SEIU was going to attend a rah-rah session with the AARP, the liberal advocacy group Families USA, Consumers Union and the American Cancer Society Action Network but unexpectedly dumped out of the event on Wednesday.

For nearly a year the SEIU has been Obama’s biggest supporter (what with SEIU Prez Andy Stern being the most common White House visitor, and all) but after Senate Democrat Leader Harry Reid announced that the Senate was dropping the socialist styled “public option,” the SEIU suddenly got cold feet and told the other groups they were out for now.

The SEIU executive board will hold what Lodes described as an “emergency” meeting Wednesday night to decide how to move forward. “Right now, they don’t have the information they need to make this decision,” said Lodes, who added that the SEIU informed the other organizations on Tuesday they would not be joining the press conference.

The SEIU’s action on this rally foreshadows the mounting unease that the left-wing is feeling over Obamacare. Even Howard Dean, former DNC Chairman and on-going representative of the American left-wing, has said the bill should be dumped in its current form. More and more dismay is being reported from the American left-wing on this thing. And the American right has been against this mess from day one. With both side rallying against it, can the mushy middle hold out?

There is an outside chance that we could kill this destructive thing altogether!
