During the 2008 presidential campaign Democrats ignored candidates of long standing, proven leadership to push the candidacy of a guy whose only real accomplishment was to have become a “community leader.” Democrats defended this sparse resume and said that “community organizing” was all so very important.
That was then.
Today, community leaders are not so important to the administration of the “community leader” president. At least is seems so since Obama sent his Attorney General, Eric Holder, and his Secretary of Education, Arne Duncan, to Chicago for a photo op and meeting with the corruption riddled City of Chicago government under Mayor Daley.
This meeting between Obama administration officials and leaders of the city was hastily called to address the recent spate of youth violence so famously on the upswing in the Windy City. With the filmed beating death of a Fenger High School student that appeared on every TV news broadcast in the country, the Obama administration seemed to have found another “emergency” that it is loathe to “waste.”
The meeting was attended by Mayor Daley, Chicago School Chief Ron Huberman, Chicago PD Super Jody Weis, and Holder and Duncan. Even the somewhat insane and profane Father Michael Pfleger was invited to attend. But the community leaders from Fenger High were excluded.
Philip Jackson of The Black Star Project, a Chicago-based educational reform group, was livid at being excluded.
“The Mayor and President want parents to get involved in the lives of their children,” Jackson said. “We are here, where are they?”
Of course, this “meeting” was little else than an Obama payoff to Daley in the form of a promise of some new federal funds to “combat” violence. It was not meaningful really. But it is quite interesting that the president so famous for being a “community organizer” excluded all the local community organizers in a meeting that was focused on community problems, isn’t it?
Lastly, it is quite offensive that this Black Star Project has featured on its mainpage an upside down American flag. Ignoramuses.
