James P. Hoffa tried his hand at some spin against opponents of the Orwellian named Employee Free Choice Act (EFCA) last week, denying that a secret ballot is a basic tenet of democracy.
“Since when is the secret ballot a basic tenet of democracy,” Hoffa is quoted as saying in a Teamsters press release.
How does he justify this idiotic claim? Because, you see, the Soviet Union had a secret ballot “but those weren’t democratic,” Hoffa reminds us. A facile comparison, for sure.
So, Hoffa thinks that eliminating a worker’s right to a safe and fair election is perfectly in keeping with “democratic tenet,” apparently. No wonder he’s so intimately aware of tactics by the Soviet Union. He is enamored by them!
This is the sort of lengths to which union thugs will go in a wild grab for power offered them by their guy in the White House, the same one that unions gave millions upon millions of dollars to.
One note of interest, James Hoffa has been elected to his own post three times by secret election. And His union has had secret elections for top positions for 20 years now. Curiously enough, Hoffa is not suggesting that his own secret ballot be eliminated.
