The 2016 general election was the last chance the Republican Party had to keep in the party anyone who considers himself a conservative. At this point, there is no reason whatever for a conservative to ever vote Republican again.
Firstly, the Republican Party stopped being an opposition party with the rise of Franklin Roosevelt’s remaking of the Democrat Party into a proto socialist operation. The very last Republican who cared anything about congressional privilege or the U.S. Constitution was Robert “Mr. Conservative” Taft and even he was a weaker version of the Republicans who locked up power for generations waving the bloody shirt after the civil war.
The Republican Party turned into a herd of whipped curs with the dawning of the 1940s, running with their tails between their legs in the face of outrageously bombastic Democrats who care neither about American tradition, the law, nor the truth.
Republicans have no principles and their only motivation is to be in a position to make themselves and their friends rich as possible while the act as junior partners to the Democrats.
This is not to say that some individual Republicans aren’t worthy folks. I can think of a few who are generally good stewards of conservative principles. But the party itself is empty of any American principle. It has no ideal for which it will fight (besides its money and privilege), it sees no reason to put up any strong opposition to the worst that the Democrats have to offer, it won’t stick up for its own, and it sees no reason to think long term.
As long as Republicans continue to rake in the cash for their friends, who cares what befalls the country? They sure don’t, anyway.
The rule of law does not exist. It has become anathema to even mention the country’s proud history in the rarefied air of our entitled class of elected officials. The Constitution is meaningless. No one who makes less than a million dollars a year has any representation at all in either state or federal government.
When I first joined Breitbart News one of my bosses, Stephen K. Bannon, was fond of saying that we have to burn it all to the ground to fix what is wrong with America. Initially I was dubious.
One can go back through my writings and see many examples where I have said that we have to work within the party to have that veritable “seat at the table” to get our ideas into play.
But what good is a seat at the table when the very party we belong to is willing to hurt itself in order to make sure we in the conservative wing get no traction?
Bannon was right. It all needs to be burnt to the ground. Not just the Democrats, but their corrupt Republican lapdogs, too.
So, who can a conservative vote for? Well, excepting when there is one of those occasional Republicans who worthy of our vote…. no party. A self-respecting conservative has no party.
But there is more blame to go around than just among the elected class because the so-called conservative punditry are just as bad as the Republican Party. This election fully proved that the staff of the Weekly Standard or the National Review are no more worthy of support than Paul Ryan or Kentucky Senator Mitch McConnell.
After all, what have they claimed to be since William F. Buckley if not the representatives of the common man? Yet for decades they have been pushing the same losers pushed by the GOP elite (Dole, H.W., W. and Jeb Bush, and Romney) and the first time they got a primary winner who they didn’t like their first move was to start looking for candidates that no one at all voted for to torpedo the vote of the people.
Seriously. We have a phalanx of so-called conservative writers and pundits who for years have gigged both the Democrats and the GOP for working against the will of the people and their first move in 2016 was to work against the will of the people by floating Edward McMuffin or David French, neither of who even people in the punditry calls are very familiar with. By larger margins than any previous primary candidate, the common man chose Donald Trump, but these pundits decided they were so much smarter than the voters that they should have to role to decide for whom the voters should be allowed to vote.
So much for their claim to be the champions of the common man.
These people deserve to be afforded no veracity once this election is over. Not only did they work to defeat the will of the people, they didn’t support the only candidate who could beat the most evil, most corrupt left-winger ever to run for the White House, and then they puffed up their chests and blatantly proclaimed that none of this is their fault.
I really hate to say it, but I am now convinced that the country is finished. Even if Trump wins it is clear that the center right coalition has fractured beyond repair and even if it hadn’t only the smallest number of that coalition cared anything at all about this country in the first place.
Welcome to America’s funeral. It’ll only get worse from here.
