From the campaign of Joe Walsh for Congress, 8th District…
Participates in Special Olympics Polar Plunge Charity Event
(Lake Zurich, Illinois) – February 25, 2010 –
Taking a break from his own campaign fund-raising, Joe Walsh, Republican candidate for Congress in the Illinois 8th, will be participating this Sunday in the annual Law Enforcement Torch Run Polar Plunge Charity Event to raise funds for the Special Olympics.
Date: Sunday, February 28, 2010
Time: 1:00pm
Place: Lakefront Park, Nippersink Boulevard, Fox Lake
The Law Enforcement Torch Run Polar Plunge is an opportunity to support Special Olympics athletes by taking a flying leap – a leap into the frigid waters of an Illinois lake. In 2010, there will be 17 locations, including one in Fox Lake with registration at 11 a.m. and the plunge at 1 p.m., Feb. 28. A post-plunge party will be held, with lunch free for plungers and $5 for others.
Participants raise at least $75 in donations from friends, family and co-workers in exchange for jumping into the icy waters in the middle of winter. Each plunger receives a Polar Plunge sweatshirt and the chance to win additional prizes for raising more money.
All proceeds collected by plungers benefit Special Olympics Illinois athletes.
Special Olympics Illinois provides year-round sports training and competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities by giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy, and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community. www.plungeillinois.com.
