Media Bias: The Fake Kwanza Parade CBS Los Angeles ‘Covered’

-By Warner Todd Huston

Last Friday the Los Angeles affiliate of CBS breathlessly covered a “Kwanza Parade” in LA as if it were a great success and a big deal. Only it was a fake parade that the “news” station purposefully misreported and pumped up as if it were some sort of “happening.”

CBS Los Angeles did a full report on this faux parade informing viewers all about the wonderful coordinators of the parade, it carefully describing the vehicles, and noted that participants rode cars and walked. There was all the news you could use in this glowing report of this wonderful, successful Kwanza parade.

It was all presented as straight new. But a few things were left out of the coverage.

You see, most parades have watchers. If a parade doesn’t have any fans that have come out to watch, it is less a parade and more a bunch of people walking down the middle of the street for no reason.

That is exactly what happened here. No one came. Not a person came out to watch this purported parade.

That’s right, these “Kwanza” people threw a parade and nobody came.

Worse, the “parade” only last ten minutes and went only a few blocks. Then it ended at a park where speakers spoke to an audience of no one.

Yet not once did CBS note that no one came out to support the “Kwanza parade.” All the photos CBS showed of the event were close ups of the people IN the “parade.” No shots of the empty streets and no shots of the empty park were shown.

Instead, the “parade” and “rally” were reported as if they were a great hit in the city.

Now, imagine if this story was about a Tea Party parade/rally? Do you think CBS would have reported it with tight focus on the parade organizers? Or do you think the media would have made SURE to report that no one came out to support them?

Of course, it is fitting that this group had a fake parade for Kwanza. It is, after all, a fake holiday.Kwanzaa, the purported “African” holiday celebrated only in the United States, is the ultimate politically correct holiday. It is little observed, even by our own African American community, of course, but those that do celebrate it are wholly unaware that this faux holiday was created in 1965 by a man with a very troubled past. For Kwanzaa’s creator, Maulana Karenga, has a violent, racist criminal record, and is even a rapist who was convicted of torturing his victims.
