Oprah Winfrey’s Chicago-based TV studios and Chicago landmark building Sears Tower (now Willis Tower) were the subject of a previously undiscovered terror bombing plot, a new report reveals.
Judicial Watch discovered new information that reveals that the two Chicago facilities were targeted in a bombing plot in 2009. The plot was only discovered this year when two of the bombing’s planners were arrested on unrelated charges.
The two plotters, Texas residents Emad Karakrah and Hector Pedroza Huerta, are longtime friends and told authorities that they were goaded by a militant Islamist hate of American involvement in Afghanistan and Iraq.
The plot did not come to light until the pair was arrested in 2014 on two separate and unrelated charges. Judicial Watch says the FBI was not aware of this bombing plot until the arrests.
Judicial Watch reports that Karakrah was arrested in Chicago for making a bomb threat after leading Chicago police on a high speed chase and Huerta, an illegal alien, had been jailed in Texas for drunk driving.
There were perhaps as many as three others involved in the bombing plot. Two of the possible conspiritors, Jaber A. Elbaneh and Adnan Gulshair el Shukrijumah (a/k/a: “Javier Robles”), are on the FBI’s “most wanted” list.
The conspirators planned to fill a U-Haul trailer and a step van full of explosives stolen from Fort Bliss, El Paso, Texas, and drive the conveyances next to, or into the buildings targeted.
