Trayvon Martin’s mother, Sybrina Fulton, on extremist Al Sharpton’s MSNBC show
Earlier today we reported on what Texas Senator Ted Cruz said about the sort of “Stand Your Ground” laws that allow people the legal right to protect themselves with deadly force. Now Trayvon Martin’s mother is accusing the Senator of a “disconnect” with the truth.
On October 29, Cruz said that such laws are not a whites-only law, as most racebaiters try to pretend, but are beneficial to all Americans regardless of race.
“We know that some in our political process have a desire to exploit that tragic, violent incident for agendas that have nothing to do with that young man who lost his life. We have seen efforts to undermine the verdict of the jury and, more broadly, to inflame racial tensions that I think are sad and irresponsible,” Cruz said.
“I think that’s a remarkable statement on many, many fronts, including the fact that a great many African-Americans find themselves victims of violent crime, and have asserted this defense to defend themselves, defend their families, defend their children,” He added.
Senator Cruz concluded saying, “The notion that stand your ground laws are some form of veiled racism may be a convenient political attack, but it is not borne out by the facts remotely.”
After Cruz made his comments, Trayvon Martin’s mother went to friendly ground appearing on MSNBC to claim that there was a “disconnect” for Senator Cruz and that situation created by SYG laws “needs to be fixed” in America.
Martin’s mother, Sybrina Fulton, appeared on extremist Al Sharpton’s MSNBC show and accused Cruz of not being “aware of the real law and how it affects us as a community.”
She went on to say that the “disconnect” is that because of stand your ground laws, minority children are “afraid” to walk down the street!
Now, THAT is a disconnect if there is one at all. Stand your ground laws are a result of too much violence in the streets, not the other way ’round. Further, minority children were afraid to walk down their streets long before this national trend of stand your ground laws started a few years ago.
The fact is, the violence came first and the SYG laws are a response to it.
The only person exhibiting a “disconnect” is Trayvon Martin’s mother, a woman who somehow thinks a seldom invoked law is the cause of endemic violence in minority neighborhoods.
A final point: have you noticed that the only “news” outlet still giving Trayvon’s mother the time of day is the racebaiting MSNBC? Yeah, me too.
