Boy Expelled From School For Playing With Toy Gun… In His Own Yard

-By Warner Todd Huston

And now the ultimate in “zero tolerance” stupidity. A school has expelled a boy from school because they heard he was playing with a toy gun in his own front yard.

Khalid Caraballo, a seventh-grader in Virginia Beach, VA, is about to be expelled for playing with an airsoft pistol in his own yard as he waited to be picked up by the school bus.

Thanks to a nosy, buttinski neighbor, who should be prosecuted for improper use of 9-1-1, called the cops on the kids playing in their own yard on Sept. 9. It wasn’t long before the school decided without proof that the boy was somehow threatening people with the gun.

Khalid, though, says that he and a friend were shooting the pellets into Khalid’s own yard but not shooting at anyone else.

Even the buttinski neighbor said that the kids were firing the gun at a target near a tree in Khalid’s own yard and that there was a net behind the target to catch stray shots. No one at all was in any danger.

WAVY TV conducted multiple interviews with several of the kids involved and all affirm that once the school bus came the kids put the gun down and left it at home.

Once officials at Larkspur Middle School heard of the incident, the two boys were suspended for “possession, handling and use of a firearm” and now the school says it is weighing whether or not they will be permanently expelled.

Naturally the boy’s parents think the whole thing is absurd.

Khalid’s mother, Solangel Caraballo, said, “My son is my private property. He does not become the school’s property until he goes to the bus stop, gets on the bus, and goes to school.

Khalid said he will never do this again. “It’s terrible. I won’t get the chance to go to a good college. It’s
on your school record. The school said I had possession of a firearm. They aren’t going to ask me any questions. They are going to think it was a real gun, and I was trying to hurt someone. They will say ‘oh, we can’t accept you.’ ”

Note what this also teaches. It teaches kids that all guns a bad. This in itself is an un-American crime against our children.
