From the Kirk Dillard for Governor campaign…
Over the weekend, Republican candidate for Illinois governor Kirk Dillard won the endorsement of the St. Charles Township Republicans, expanding his support throughout Kane County.
“Senator Dillard’s leadership and plans to bring jobs to Illinois, balance the budget and clean up Springfield demonstrate he is the best candidate, and we are proud to endorse him,” said St. Charles Township Republican Chairman Ken Shepro. Dillard was also enthusiastic. “I’m delighted my friends in Kane County are backing my campaign, and it shows how my unique experience as former Governor Edgar’s chief of staff, my plan to make Illinois a “Destination Economy” and my legislative record are resonating with voters.”
Dillard has already been endorsed by Kane County GOP Chairman Mike Kenyon and Kane County Board Chair Karen McConnaughay, who serves a co-chair of Dillard’s campaign. St. Charles is the largest township in Kane County, and the endorsement reflects Dillard’s growing support in Kane County and throughout the state.
In recent weeks, Dillard nearly scored a supermajority of committeemen voting in Wheeling Township (the Cook County Township with the most Republican primary voters) and was overwhelmingly endorsed by Maine Township Committeemen (the township with the third most Republican primary voters). Dillard was also recently backed by the Evanston Township Republican Organization and several prominent Cook County Township Committeemen, including Shaun Murphy of Worth Township, Sig Vannelis of Lemont Township and Doug Troiani of Bloom Township, among others. In October, Dillard won the straw poll at the Cook County Republican convention.
Dillard has also received concrete support in Will County, where Township Chairman Bill Mayer’s Du Page Township, the second largest township in the county, unanimously endorsed Dillard for governor. In addition to strong support in Wheatland and Lockport Township, several local municipal and county officials have gone public in their support of Senator Dillard’s candidacy, as has State Representative Renee Kosel. Mayor Joe Cook of Channahon also adds support for Dillard through his grassroots operation known as Mayors for Dillard. Dillard is the only candidate in the race who represents Will, one of the fastest growing counties in Illinois.
First elected to the Illinois Senate in 1994, Dillard served as Gov. Jim Edgar’s first chief of staff and was legislative affairs director for Gov. Jim Thompson. He also served as a judge on the Illinois Court of Claims. His plan to make Illinois a “Destination Economy,” released earlier this month, is a major jobs creation program aimed at stabilizing the state’s economy and making Illinois an employer-friendly state.
