Liberals Spy Comcast ‘Conspiracy’

-By Warner Todd Huston

I do believe that liberals in this country have their tin foils hats on way too tight these days. At least, it’s easy to think that over the new national conspiracy theory that lefties are all balled up over lately. You see, it is being imagined in the dim, dark recesses of the left’s collective consciousness that cable company Comcast is out to silence them.

Apparently, Comcast has come down from their circling black helicopters and decided to target the left by moving MSNBC from their basic cable package to their more expensive premium services. This will, you see, “marginalize outspoken liberal voices” like Keith Olbermann.

It couldn’t be that Comcast is just trying to make more cash by moving popular channels to their ever expanding digital service in preparation for when the whole country goes digital, right? It has to be some deep, dark, anti-left conspiracy by an eeeevil corporate monster, it must be supposed.

Wild-eyed lefties from Portland, Oregon to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania are calling foul over Comcast’s billing change and it’s all because, they imagine, Comcast is out to destroy them.

Cue the dramatic music.

Just look at this specious conspiracy “reasoning”:

Gun Slinging Mayor of Jackson, Miss Indicted — And the Party is…

-By Warner Todd Huston

Along with a few of his police bodyguards Mayor Frank Melton of Jackson, Mississippi has been indicted on Federal civil rights violations. It seems that in his zeal to curb drug crime, Melton forced some local youngsters at gunpoint to take a sledgehammer to a private residence that Melton claimed was a drug house.

One little problem, Melton had no court order and no right to destroy a private residence. Yet he and his rogue police bodyguards illegally entered this private residence and wrecked the place anyway.

The federal indictment alleges that on Aug. 26, 2006, the defendants invited several young men into the police department’s mobile command unit. The group drove to a home on Ridgeway Street, where Wright allegedly ordered the occupants outside at gunpoint.

“Thereafter, Mayor Melton allegedly knocked out several windows of the home with a large stick and ordered the young men accompanying him to destroy the home using sledgehammers while Wright and Recio stood guard,” the Justice Department statement said.

They call Melton’s style of crime fighting “unorthodox” as he cruises the streets in a special “mobile command center” and he carries guns around like he was himself a police man. Naturally, his unconcern over private property rights, his kidnapping of these “several young men” and his storm trooper tactics are causing him a spot of trouble these days.

Rep. Pete Stark is a Stupid Man

-By Warner Todd Huston

Usually we like to stay high-minded here on Publius’ Forum. We don’t usually resort to out-right name calling but here is a case where we just can’t help it. Once again Represent Fortney Hillman “Pete” Stark (D – CA) is a stupid little man whose knee-jerk reactions are based on no knowledge whatsoever. There really is no other way around it Petey boy is just plain stupid.

Why do I say that? Well, it isn’t just my assessment because he proved it for us a few weeks ago.

You see, on the 16th, Petey was on the floor of the House of Representatives as they were debating and voting on the war supplemental spending bill. As he was staring off into space, probably drooling a bit, good ol’ Petey noticed some “Army officers” sitting in the gallery observing the deliberations.

Well, this made Petey mad. He thought that these officers were just lollygagging about Congress when there was a war being fought out there. Petey, you see, imagined that these “flag rank Army officers” were shirking their duty. So, he sprinted back to his office to have one of his mindless little aides write a complaint letter to the Secretary of Defense.

May 16, 2008

The Honorable Robert Gates
Secretary of Defense
1000 Defense Pentagon
Washington, DC 20301

Dear Secretary Gates:

Yesterday, while voting on the war supplemental spending bill in the House of Representatives, I couldn’t help but notice a contingent of approximately 20 flag rank Army officers sitting in the House Gallery watching the debate and vote for a couple of hours. I was looking from below so I thought they were Army, but there could have been other branches present.

It’s possible they were on leave time or vacation. If so, I obviously have no concern. However, if they were doing this on military time, I want an explanation of why they were there.

At a time when our nation is at war, our troops are over-extended, and the Administration is literally asking for emergency military spending, what good to the “war on terror” is having US Generals and other top ranked officers – who were likely accompanied by staff and escorted by their chauffeurs – spending hours sitting in the gallery of the House of Representatives?

Please provide for me the name, rank, branch, and duties of each of these officers, as well as the number of additional staff and drivers that were used to facilitate their attendance yesterday. I would like this information by Monday, May 19th.

If they were here on official duty, this was an abhorrent misallocation of our military resources at a time of war.

Sincerely,

Pete Stark

CC: The Honorable Ike Skelton, Chairman, Committee on Armed Services

CC: The Honorable Jack Murtha, Chairman, Committee on Appropriations, Subcommittee on Defense

Well, there’s some high dudgeon, to be sure.

So, what was the explanation of this “abhorrent misallocation of our military resources at a time of war”? Why were these “20 flag rank Army officers” just sitting about Congress when they should have been fighting a war?

First of all, a “flag rank Army officer” is usually a term used for Navy officers, not Army officers. Second of all, the soldiers Petey saw in Congress were not high ranked generals. Third of all they weren’t out on a lark, they were there as part of their class work at the Army War College in Carlisle, PA.

Even more ridiculous for this stupid man, all of those officers are combat veterans, so they had not shirked any combat, and their tour of Congress was arranged for far ahead of time.

Daily Kos Attacking Charlton Heston on His Passing

-By Warner Todd Huston

I guess we shouldn’t expect any sense of decorum from Kossacks, but it is pretty lame that they had to unleash their hatred only minutes after the announcement of the passing of famed American actor Charlton Heston. A Daily Kos “diarist” named doriangz started out calling Heston a “gun-nut” and ending with his life and causes being considered “political nutdouchebaggery,” and the incivility just flowed like the opening of a damn from Kos posters’ keyboards after that. Not much respect for a man who’s film career spanned many decades, who marched with Martin Luther King, and fought to uphold our Constitution.

One poster said that Heston tore into the “victims of Columbine,” one Marcus Tullius said he laughed when Jerry Falwell died and that Heston’s death made the world a better place. And Fairy Tale echoed that with a post that said, “Things are already getting better in America” now that Heston was dead. RandySF said that he was sorry but that he “can’t think of anything nice” to say about Heston. Aqualad08 seemed to think that if there were “no guns in heaven” that would make it “hell” for Heston.

And they were just getting warmed up.

Then, we always have to have the “he’s a crappy actor” types like poster jazzmaniac and the ones that have no respect, like ohcanada who said, “As we sow.. I didn’t respect him in life..and I won’t in death.” Then FischFry jumped in to say that he assumed that mention of the Heston film “A Touch of Evil” was really a description of Heston himself.

And, predictably, there is the foul mouthed type that we have all come to associate so specifically with uncivil leftists, too. PerfectStormer posted a loving “So long, motherf***er” when he heard the news of Heston’s death.
