This is what happens when liberals try to use religion to sell their hate for conservatives. They are so unfamiliar with the Bible and Christianity that they end up boloxing the whole thing up. This is what MSNBC did when trying to use the Bible against what the cabler said was Sarah Palin’s “un-Christian” Christmas trees.
During the December 26 broadcast of the lamentable Ed Show on MSNBC, substitute hostette and resident numbskull Joy Reid thought she had a great way to attack Sarah Palin.
For her “Pretenders” segment, Reid showed some video of Palin and family around their Christmas tree and used that as a vehicle to attack. All these Christmas trees, Reid noted, were un-Christian and so, Palin is a hypocrite.
“In ‘Pretenders’ tonight, a merry Palin Christmas. Sarah Palin dropped by Fox & Friends to promote her manifesto on Christmas purity,” Reid blubbered. “She brought a treat better than Christmas cookies–family photos.”
After the video of Palin and her Christmas tree, Reid took to scolding Palin for her hypocrisy.
“Not so fast, Palin,” this halfwit blurted out. “We learned some important lessons on Monday about all the arbor activity in those pictures. I even had to break out the good book, not hers of course.”
Then this illiterate dunce told us what she thinks the Bible says and what it means for its condemnation of Christmas trees.
REID: Certain parts of the Bible also appear to preach against let’s say, I don’t know, Christmas trees. Here’s Jeremiah 10-10, it reads:
“For the practices of the peoples are worthless; they cut a tree out of the forest, and a craftsman shapes it with his chisel. They adorn it with silver and gold; they fasten it with hammer and nails so it will not totter. Like a scarecrow in a cucumber field, their idols cannot speak; they must be carried because they cannot walk. Do not fear them; they can do no harm nor can they do any good.”
REID: Now, a Christmas purist wouldn’t want to stray from the Bible on Christmas, would she? Everyone celebrates Christmas in their own special way. That could mean being tree-side with the family or even profiting off your [cause?] and commercialism. But if Sarah Palin wants us to believe there’s only one true meaning of Christmas, she can keep on pretending.
Oh, gosh, oh that darned old, hypocritical, Palin. The horrors!
Only, one problem. The Bible doesn’t say a thing about Christmas trees.
In fact, there was no such thing as a Christmas tree in biblical times. The Christmas tree was invented by Europeans thousands of years after the days of Jesus.
But, even a fair reading of that Bible passage shows that the thing that the Bible is condemning is the carving of trees into idols that are then worshipped. No body worships a Christmas tree!
A Christmas tree is just a festive decoration and has nothing to do with religion.
Further, no serious religious authority accepts Reid’s reading of the Bible. Newsbusters found that both Grace Communion and BillyGraham.org warn Christians not to think that the Book of Jeremiah is attacking Christmas trees.
So, what happened here on MSNBC? Only that neither Joy Reid, nor any of the editors, writers, or producers at the Ed Show are familiar enough with the Bible to understand that their attempt to needle Palin as un-Christian was a failed, stupid attempt.
Like all liberals, religion is an utter mystery to the folks at MSNBC.
Total morons.
