Pope Francis Tells Rush Limbaugh ‘I Am Not a Marxist’

-By Warner Todd Huston

Three days ago I discussed why Time magazine picked Catholic Pope Francis as its “man of the year.” We noted that the only reason the magazine would have picked this months-old Pope for its cover is because of his recent Marxist-styled attack on capitalism. Now the Pope has come out to assure his flock and warn commentators like Rush Limbaugh that he isn’t a Marxist.

Last week conservative talker Rush Limbaugh lambasted the Pope’s address from two weeks ago saying that his attack on capitalism was “pure Marxism.” For much of last week the media here and abroad went gaga over Rush’s “attack” on the Pope.

Now the Pope himself is trying to ally fears that he is a Marxist, telling Limbaugh and other critics that he isn’t one.

During an interview with the Italian newspaper La Stampa, the Pope said that Marxism is wrong.

“Marxist ideology is wrong,” the Pope said. “But I have met many Marxists in my life who are good people, so I don’t feel offended.”

The Pope also said that everything he’s said from the Vatican can be found in typical church doctrine.

But, in fact, the Pope should feel both offended and ashamed of himself. His words of two weeks ago were, indeed, anti-capitalist and he should be ashamed of that. He should also be offended for being thought of as a Marxist. Being a Marxist should make anyone a pariah to civilized humans everywhere.

If you are a Marxist, you cannot be a “good person.” It is impossible to be a disgusting Marxist and a good person at the same time. Marxists are anti-human, anti-freedom, pro-oppression, hate-filled, murder-loving cretins that should be shunned by polite society.

Here is what Rush said late last week:

Well, what do you all think? Is the Pope telling the truth exactly? Does he lean toward Marxist hatred of capitalism as Rush said? Or do we take the Pope’s new claims at face value?
