Duck Dynasty: We’re Using Hollywood to Spread Christian Values

-By Warner Todd Huston

The non-bearded Robertson brother of TV’s Duck Dynasty, Alan Robertson, said in a recent interview that the Robertsons are turning the tables on Hollywood, using Tinsel Town to spread Christianity instead of the usual Hollyweird practice of using our entertainment industry to spread hate for Christianity.

Until last year, Alan Robertson was a pastor of a Louisiana church, but he stepped down from that position and has joined the rest of his family in the popular TV reality show that airs on the A & E Network.

Alan is the eldest son of Robertson family patriarch and Duck Commander company founder Phil Robertson.

When he announced he was stepping down from his pastorship, Alan said, “What I do for our church–you see, it’s a pretty good-sized church–impacts a lot of people, but because of my association with the show, I’ll get to minister to a lot more people. Any person that’s an evangelist, that’s what you want to do, so I had to give this up for something possibly bigger.”

This month he’s taking that farther saying that he and his family are actually using Hollywood for a purpose for which it is not used to being used.

Robertson told Religion News Service that they are using Hollywood for all its worth.

“You have to look at it as positive that they’re being aware,” Robertson said. “If it’s a way to make money, more power to you; it’s America. It looks like they’re taking advantage of us, but we’re taking advantage of them to get the gospel preached.”

On the success of the show, he said the clan have a sort of formula they are using.

“Our faith is the main part of our lives, but it’s better to be subtle. It’s more effective. When Jesus talked in parables, he wanted people to seek and find. I think it’s better that it’s funny, and while faith is there, for people who want more, we have that in our books. We don’t want to make it like ‘The 700 Club for Rednecks.'”

Alan Robertson also said he probably won’t grow a beard like the rest of the men in his family.
