From the Walsh for Congress (8th District) campaign…
(Lake Zurich, Ill)– Yesterday, Crain’s Chicago Business reported that unemployment in metropolitan Chicago jumped to 11.6% this January, the highest rate in almost 27 years. (Article)
That is higher than it was before the $800 billion stimulus, and higher than it was before the bank bailouts.
It is lower, however, than it will be if the health care bill passes, which is expected to cost Illinois another 169,000 jobs. 169,000 – that is greater than the entire populations of Schaumburg, Hoffman Estates and Palatine combined.
And where is our Congresswoman Melissa Bean during this unemployment crisis? She is voting for job-killing legislation like cap-and-trade and Obamacare and coming out against pro-job bills like the HIRE Act which would have given enhanced write-offs to small businesses and tax breaks to employers hiring employees who have been out of work for more than 60 days.
Higher unemployment, higher taxes, higher debt. These are the hallmarks of Melissa Bean’s tenure in Congress. And they are three more reasons why we can’t afford the health care bill and we can’t afford Melissa Bean in Congress.
Joe Walsh is the Republican candidate running against Democrat incumbent Melissa Bean in 2010 for the Illinois 8th Congressional District.
