2nd District, Isaac Hayes: New Health Bill a Bait and Switch

From the Isaac Hayes for Congress campaign…

CHICAGO: After spending more than a year to pass a major overhaul of the American health insurance industry, the White House released its latest in a series of new health reform bills.

“This administration’s push to jam a bill that the majority of Americans oppose through reconciliation begs the question, who does this country belong to,” said Republican Nominee for Illinois 2nd District Isaac Hayes, “the people or politicians in Washington D.C.? The White House can try and use focus group words to deceive the American people, but putting lipstick on a pig doesn’t stop it from being a pig”.

On Tuesday, the White House announced that it included four Republican proposals. According to USA Today, “President Obama says he is exploring four Republican proposals to add to his updated health care plan…” (David Jackson, “Obama Explores Republican ideas for Revised Health Care Bill,” USA Today, 3/2/10).

“The White House wants to lure Republicans with a bait and switch tactic,” said Hayes. “They may allow four GOP-sponsored ideas in the hopes that it will create a bipartisan element to the bill, but it amounts to nothing more than a pig with lipstick.”

Hayes noted a recent Rasmussen poll that indicated 56% of Americans oppose the current bill, “Americans overwhelmingly reject this current bill, yet their opinions don’t mean a thing. What good is a focus group of Americans, if its only purpose is to mislead the public? It’s nothing more than a bait and switch to lure them in and then cut the line.”
