The Palatine Tea Party folks have a very good webpage that reminds us of just what we Republicans are fighting when we are looking for candidates to oust incumbent Democrat Melissa Bean.
Congressman Melissa Bean is a tax and spend, big government, socialist healthcare-supporting, left-winger and needs to be eliminated.
The Palatine folks have shown that she supported government run healthcare, voted yes on tax funded infanticide, loves the cap and tax bill that will drive our utilities bills through the roof, and was a big supporter of all the boondoggle stimulus bills.
Bean is a reliable socialist and we need to pick a candidate that will get her out of office. I am supporting Maria Rodriguez because I think she can beat Bean woman to woman. The Palatine Tea Party folks are supporting candidate Joe Walsh. I think he’s the wrong choice, but he for SURE isn’t as wrong as Melissa Bean and I could support him were he to win. That goes for any of the others. They are all far, far better than Bean. The only two competitive candidates are Rodriguez and Walsh, though. (see my other endorsements HERE)
Here are the candidates for the 8th:
- Dirk Beveridge – www.beveridge2010.com
- John Dawson – johndawsonforcongress.com
- Chris Geissler – chrisgeissler.netboots.net
- Gregory Jacobs – Gregory S. Jacobs
- Maria Rodriguez – www.mariarodriguezforcongress.com
- Joe Walsh – walshforcongress.com

I think the selection of Joe Walsh would be a big mistake for the GOP. Even if you believe that his most recent positions on the issues are the result of a genuine change of heart from the contrary positions on which he previously campaigned, you still have to be very concerned that the voters in the general election will come to the same conclusions. Melissa Bean will almost certainly run ads exploiting Walsh’s more liberal past and accusing him of being a flip flopper or political opportunist. If these criticisms are effective (and they often are) with even 5% of the general election voters, Walsh could easily lose the race in the fall.
My other concern with Walsh is that he has run for office twice before and lost. In in previous congressional race he was beaten quite badly. In his previous races he often resorted to political gimics such as driving around a yellow school bus, doing a bike tour or throwing a birthday party for his opponent to highlight his opponents advanced age. These gimics did not work and Walsh has shown that he has a difficult time appealing to voters in a general election.
I absolutely agree with your points, JimU157.
