10th District Robert Dold: Sunlight is the Best Disinfectant

From the Robert Dold for Congress campaign…

Now that a new year is upon us and the February 2nd primary election is just 27 days away, the people of the 10th District will soon have the opportunity to bring change to Washington by electing a new Congressman who will stand up and fight on issues such as ethics and government transparency. As President Obama enables Congress to trample public interest by hiding behind closed doors during the final talks of the health care bill, it becomes even more evident that we need to elect Congressional leaders committed to open and accountable government.

In their bid to take over the health care system, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, enabled by the President, have ignored the requests of the American people to keep conference committee meetings regarding the health bill public. This is a far cry from the time during Obama’s campaign for President when he publicly pledged to allow the American people to stay involved in the process by broadcasting all negotiations of the healthcare bill. By lying and shutting us out, they’ve put every American in the dark on legislation that could profoundly affect our daily lives in many ways. It is unacceptable for the White House to be taking such an active role in these secret behind-closed-door meetings with Congressional supporters of the bill.

I believe transparency and ethics are crucial components to maintaining the open and free government that we are so blessed to have as Americans. As Congressman of the 10th District, I will fight to hold government leaders accountable for their decisions, and keep the doors of Congressional meetings open at all costs, especially when the issue at hand could be at the cost of the well being of every American.

It is time to elect a new Congressional leader who will stand against the health care bill and fight for transparency in Washington. I will be that leader.
