McCain Promises Hispanics He’ll Revive ‘Comprehensive Immigration Reform’ Measures

-By Warner Todd Huston

Last year, the so-called Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act of 2007 (Senate bill 1348) went down to a resounding defeat thanks to the vigilance of talk-radio and the blogs. John McCain was a leading voice in favor of passage in the Senate.

Since that defeat, John McCain has claimed that he has “gotten the message” that the country does not want the McCain version of “comprehensive reform” and he has avoided the issue in most campaign appearances.

But Juan McCain still lurks inside of John McCain.

Today, the Chicago Sun-Times news group (in the Beacon News) is reporting the results of last week’s private, no media allowed meeting between candidate McCain and several Hispanic groups in Chicago.

Reminding everyone of his sponsorship for the comprehensive immigration reform bill proposed last summer, he bluntly stated, “We failed.” However, he gave his promise that should he be elected, he would reintroduce the bill to Congress.

I think this is the thing that makes me the most upset at government. No idea is ever defeated. The defeated folks merely sit and wait to see when they can slip the same, defeated, bad ideas in when no one is looking. No matter how many times the American people tell their politicians and judges that they don’t want something, these arrogant, elitists don’t care.

So, John McCain’s amnesty bill was soundly defeated and what does he say? With a sly wink and a ready grin, he just promises to bring it up again, anyway.

I am open to suggestions because it seems that our representatives simply have no interest in what the people have to say on any subject whatever.

  1. Having been a conservative my whole life I am not going to vote for John,
Americans wouldn’t pick lettuce for fifty dollars an hour”, McCain. No way. No how. If my vote would be the one that decided the race for Obama, so be it, even though I detest the guy and believe he’s a racist. McCain and the Republican Party deserve to be punished for abandoning the principels of law and order and are no different from the liberal Democrats who want to completely open our borders.

  2. Why is anybody surprised that McCain has reverted to form and is pandering to his corporate sponsors and the race hustlers? What did you expect? There is alternative to McCain and Obama. Vote Chuck Baldwin.

  3. A Government of, by, and for Special Interests and Big Business! Did our Founding Fathers envision THIS madness?
We the People are officially out of the equation! The American Dream is up for sale to the highest Political Action Committee contributor or Special Interest Lobby! Legality is in the eye of the beholder but I suppose that depends on what the meaning of the word “is” is! Lady Justice lies dead on the floor of the Senate while criminal activity is REWARDED with Social Security Benefits and the overwhelming majority of American Citizens are branded “Racists” for wanting to make English the official language! Have we not had enough of this Political Correctness run amok? How long will we idly stand by and watch the freedoms earned by the red blood of our forefathers be either given away to lawbreakers or sold for the green dollars of corporate greed? Senators are COMPLETELY IGNORING their constituency and, in the case of Harry Reid and John McCain are flat out calling us BIGOTS!

  4. I HAVE BUT ONE WISH FOR THIS COUNTRY REGARDING JUAN MCCAIN; LET’S ALL PRAY FOR NATURAL CAUSES TO RESCUE US FROM SOMEONE WHO IS DEFINITELY TEETERING ON THE EDGE OF INSANITY, AND SENILITY!! AT HIS “LATINO ONLY” RALLY HE JUST ATTENDED, HE PROMISED A CHEERING AUDIENCE THAT AMNESTY WAS JOB #1!! ARE YOU LISTENING, ST. PETER? I NOMINATE JUAN MCCAIN FOR ETERNAL LIFE…IN PURGATORY. NOW, PRAY HIS VP IS SOMEONE WITHOUT ALZHEIMERS ON THEIR RESUME!!

  5. My suggestion is for conservatives who feel betrayed and party-less to consider Chuck Baldwin of The Constitution Party, the only true conservative in the race. This suggestion is for anti-Invasion conservatives. Baldwin is even tougher than Tancredo or Hunter were on illegal aliens and their employers.

  6. Everyone panders yah know. They pander to working White middle class, to the Jewish lobby, to Blacks, so it only makes sense to pander to the Latinos. Only fair.

  7. You think Mc Cain is bad on illegal immigration, just think if “ubangi lips” becomes president. Open the gates, America is dead!

  8. Having “Juan McAmnesty” in the Oval Office would be WORSE than B. Hussein Obama! At least with a left-wing, total Whack-Job Dem in power, the GOP would strap on a pair and FIGHT against an illegal alien amnesty. I concur with “Bobby” – the so-called “Republican” Party must be sent a strong message and if it takes an election debacle to do it, that’s the price they have to pay for SELLING AMERICA OUT! A “republic” is a sovereign nation governed by the rule of law. McAmnesty believes we have to surrender to Mexico and China.

  9. Borat Osama would be up against the “loyal” opposition, McAmnesty would be in cahoots with the Dems. It really depends on the VP pick as I believe melanoma or Oldtimer’s will take Juan away in about 3~4 years. He looks ready to go now.
