You’ll recall the story about Sweet Cakes by Melissa, the Oregon bakery that ran afoul of the gay mafia when its owners refused to cater to a gay wedding? Well, now the shop owners have decided to close their shop down due to the constant harassment at the hands of the oh, so tolerant leftists in Oregon.
Melissa and Aaron Klein, owners of the bakery, posted a notice to their Facebook page announcing the closing. “This will be our last weekend at the shop we are moving our business to an in home bakery,” the couple said on August 30.
The pair also thanked supporters for their wishes of future success saying, “Thank you again everyone for your up lifting words, and encouragement! It is much appreciated.”
The pair ran into resistance when they refused to sell their cakes to a gay couple planning a wedding.
On January 17, a mother and daughter arrived at Sweet Cakes By Melissa, an Oregon bakery owned by the Kleins. When the pair explained they wanted a wedding cake for a lesbian wedding, the shop owners politely refused informing the would-be customers that their religious beliefs don’t condone gay weddings and that, because of this, they did not want the women’s business.
Before the week was up the bakery was beset by attacks in person, on the phone, and in email. The gay mafia from across the country had sprung into action to threaten the lives of the religious couple.
The owners also experienced a major drop in sales. When the incident was first ballyhooed by media and gay groups, the local citizens came out in force to buy from the shop as a show of support and a statement against the gay protesters. But as time rolled onward, that temporary show of support did not turned into constant, repeat business. Consequently, the bakery’s business has suffered with some canceled orders and no new orders as the gay mafia continues its intimidation tactics.
The Kleins also say that this story was exploited by the media and that their story was never properly relayed to the public. It was just a “shock” story is all it was.
“I feel like all these media people–they have not gotten our story–our actual story. And what we’re really about and why we said no,” Melissa Klein told TheBlaze.com in January. “Everyone is looking at us like we’re these hateful monsters that don’t want to serve gay people.”
