8th District: Statement from Joe Walsh in Response to Vendor Lawsuit

From the Joe Walsh for Congress campaign…

We must be doing something right.

Twelve days before the election, our grassroots movement has all the momentum in the world and we’re on the verge of winning because most people in the 8th district feel the exact same way as I do – we want to put an end to all this government spending and growth. Our internal-polling confirms this and shows me the front-runner.

Yesterday, a former vendor filed a suit against my campaign. We had a dispute regarding the work performed by the firm and have been trying to settle for almost two months. I’m saddened that the vendor make it public in a such a negative way right before the election. It’s one thing to file a suit, its quite another to file a suit and then try the lawsuit in the media.

I won’t stand for it. The campaign has already paid this vendor $15,000 and the remainder is in dispute. Our lawyers are reviewing the lawsuit and will defend it.

Based on this news, another candidate in the race, who’s not even registering in the polls, put out a release yesterday asking me to drop out of the 8th District race. A vendor lawsuit is filed, with allegations, none of which have been substantiated, and my opponent thinks I should pull out of the race? This is a hollow, desperate campaign tactic and just plain silly.

Well, too bad, I’m in this race to win. This race isn’t about me, it’s about the thousands of folks in the district who are finally excited about a candidate who actually says what he believes and stands up to the establishment and status quo.

Negative attacks like this are nothing compared to what will happen in the general race against Melissa Bean when the incumbent is challenged. Conservatives in the 8th need a candidate who is willing to fight for principles and will not be intimidated by last minute campaign mud-slinging. I am that choice. Scott Brown was victorious in the face of the onslaught on negative attacks that were thrown his way in Massachusetts. I intend to conduct my campaign in the same positive energetic way.

These final 12 days I plan to focus on the real issues of the day; creating jobs, reducing the deficit, and protecting our freedoms.

  1. It’s unfortunate that a candidate for Congress thinks he’s “doing something right” when the result is a lawsuit that alleges financial negligence and unethical behavior. Apparently, the guy who is suing Walsh has worked on previous Walsh campaigns and WAS a friend of Joe Walsh until being jipped out of his cash. If this is how Walsh treats his friends, I wonder how he is going to treat his constituents. Typical!! It seems to me that Geissler ONLY wants to see a republican beat Melissa Bean. Walsh has already lost a Congressional race to a female Democratic incumbent (Jan Schakowsky, 1996) and is gearing up for another loss (Walsh lost a congressional race in 1982 as well). Melissa Bean will take advantage of this Law suit as well as Walsh living outside of the 8th district (Walsh will only move into the 8th if he wins the Republican primary)…again typical!! Why can’t we put up candidates that can actually WIN? Not sure why the Tea Party would support this guy other than his populist rhetoric.
