AFP: Attention all DuPage County members!

From Americans for Prosperity…

Americans for Prosperity Launches Grassroots Effort Against Schillerstrom’s Proposal to Borrow $70 million From DuPage County Taxpayers

-A mobile billboard critical of Schillerstrom’s proposal runs TODAY–

CHICAGO – While concerns about rising public debt and out of spending is at an all-time high, you’d expect elected officials to give pause before approving any plans to increase the debt obligation of government and further burden taxpayers.

This unfortunately does not appear to be the case with the DuPage County government. DuPage County Board Chairman Bob Schillerstrom is once again pushing his board to approve a massive capital plan that will ultimately cost DuPage taxpayers nearly $125 million. Out of nearly two-dozen projects, only five are road projects that will actually improve the county’s infrastructure.

Final Report: RightOnLine 2010

-By Warner Todd Huston

Pictured from the left: Robert Bluey [Heritage Foundation], Guy Benson [Chicago Radio Host], Ed Morrissey [HotAir.com], and Warner Todd Huston [PubliusForum.com]

I just flew in from Las Vegas where I attended Americans For Prosperity’s RightOnLine 2010 conference. As always, it was an uplifting experience, educational, and a whole lot of fun. I caught up with old friends, met with business partners, and made new friends.

For those unaware of what this whole RightOnLine thing is, think of it as an activist’s training program. If you attend you’ll find sessions and panels that range from such introductory programs as “Blogging 101” ad “podcasting 101,” to more in depth online activities as “Citizen Journalism” and “Global Warming and Energy Policy.” It really is a worthwhile endeavor and if the conference ever comes to a town near you, please do yourself a favor and attend.

I’m Headed to Vegas… the RightOnLine Conference

-By Warner Todd Huston

In about a half hour I am off to Las Vegas, Nevada to attend the RightOnLine Conference.

I have a bunch of posts scheduled to auto post over the next few days, but it remains to be seen how much I can post while I am away. I hope to get some posts up about the conference but I can’t promise anything.

Anyway, “I’m leaving on a jet plane,” in a few hours.

I’ll be seeing many of you out there, I’m sure…

Governor Quinn Pretends to Cut State Spending, Quinn Passes on a Real Balanced Budget

From Americans For Prosperity, Illinois…

Chicago, Illinois – The Illinois chapter of the grassroots free-market group Americans for Prosperity (AFP-IL) and it’s over 30,000 statewide members express great disappointment in Governor Quinn’s failure to VETO the states unbalanced budget.

“Over the last several weeks Americans for Prosperity and its members have written several hundreds of letters requesting the governor to Veto the budget forcing lawmakers to do their job. “Today, Governor Quinn had a chance to do just that. Unfortunately, Governor Quinn failed to do his job” said state director Joe Calomino.

Take Action: Tell Governor Quinn to Veto the Budget!‏

From Americans for Prosperity, Illinois….

On May 25, 2010, the Illinois General Assembly shirked their duties by passing an unbalanced budget by adding $3.7 billion in new debt that will be passed on to our children and grandchildren! This new debt adds to our current $13 billion deficit and doesn’t even begin to address the $80 billion plus in unfunded pension liabilities or the billions of dollars in unfunded Medicaid liabilities.

The General Assembly’s decision to borrow against our future, in-lieu of making the tough choices, like where to cut costs and how to rein in spending, is akin to paying off a Master Card bill by charging it to a Visa Card. It’s irresponsible and incompetent!

“November is Coming” and not a minute too soon…

Legislative Update: Springfield Lawmakers Passing the Buck

This was sent out by Americans for Prosperity Illinois, but I want to be sure and direct your attention to the info about SB 2494, the school voucher bill. This is a very important bill that is soon to be considered in Springfield. This bill would be good for education in Illinois.

It appears that the legislative leaders will once again fail to show the courage to make the tough decisions and will be passing the buck to Gov. Pat Quinn forcing him to decide funding levels for most state programs in FY 2011 and more than likely authorizing more borrowing. In a recent Continue reading

Outrageous: FBI Uses Non-Violent Conservative Group as Bait to Catch Stalker

-By Warner Todd Huston

Senator Patty Murray (D, Wa) doesn’t want to hear from her constituents if they are upset at her vote for Obama’s take over of our nation’s healthcare. One voter in particular has earned Murray’s ire. He has almost daily called Murray’s offices and in no uncertain terms informed the Senator that he hates her healthcare votes. Really hates it.

Murray was so upset that her constituents had the gall to call and complain that she cravenly called in the F.B.I. to trap upset constituent Charles A. Wilson. The F.B.I. came upon an outrageous idea in order to confirm that the phone number registered in Murray’s caller I.D. was, indeed, being used by Mr. Wilson to “threaten” the Senator.

An F.B.I. agent called Wilson and pretended to be a representative of Patients United Now, an arm of the conservative, free-market organization Americans for Prosperity.

Tea Party Protest at Illinois Rep. Bean’s Office

-By Warner Todd Huston

I attended a gathering of Americans protesting both for and against Obamacare in front of Illinois Rep. Melissa Bean’s Schaumburg offices this afternoon, though those protesting against Obamacare far out numbered those in favor of it I have to say. It is also amazing that anyone came out as cold and snowy as it was!

I suppose there were just over 100 folks out with their Gadsen flags, American flags, and both professionally printed and homemade signs with their favorite slogans upon them. One fellow even showed up with his tricorn hat and a pitchfork!

3rd Annual AFP Defending the Amer. Dream Summit, Wisconsin – Final Report

-By Warner Todd Huston

Well, I am back home from attending the AFP Defending the American Dream Summit. The speakers were inspiring and the panel on which I sat during one of the break out sessions was really fun.

A word about what this whole thing was is apropos here. It was attended by some 4,000 folks, all regular every day folks, most from Wisconsin. Not all were necessarily AFP members as it was open to the public. A lot of different tea party groups also had representatives in attendance. There were some few vendors of buttons, T-Shirts and the like, but selling things was in no way the main point of this thing. The speakers and the message was preeminent. This was a true grassroots gathering.

The announcement was made that AFP Wisconsin had grown to 58,000 Wisconsiners and ranked as the second largest grassroots political organization in the state second only to the Wisconsin teachers union.

I guess my only complaint was that they tried to shoehorn so many speakers all into the 10AM to 11:30 AM slot. Here is the list of speakers we heard from…

3rd Annual AFP Defending the Amer. Dream Summit, Wisconsin – Opening Festivities

-By Warner Todd Huston

I am here in Beautiful Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin for the AFP Defending the American Dream Summit… or I assume it’ll be beautiful once the drab days of Winter are over, anyway. I haven’t been to the Dells since about 1973, so things have changed a tad since I was last here.

Tonight, after registration closed for the evening, we had a nice little cocktail party, I mingled a little and heard from a few of the respected speakers from whom we’ll hear more tomorrow.

Grover Norquist from Americans for Tax Reform spoke on the evils of taxes and government spending, then Lord Christopher Monkton came to the podium and gave us a wonderfully droll address of which I’ll say more in a moment. We had the pleasure of hearing a word or two from the Wall Street Journal’s John Fund. Then we heard from the ubiquitous Joe Wurzelbacher, otherwise known as “Joe the Plumber.” Finally we heard a few words from AFP big cheese Tim Phillips.

3rd Annual Defending the American Dream Summit

-By Warner Todd Huston

I will be leaving soon to attend the American for Prosperity’s 3rd Annual Defending the American Dream Summit in beautiful Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin.

It is a two day conference with all sorts of great speakers, sessions and panels. I was asked to be a panelist on the “RightOnLine – New Media” panel so if you’re attending come on over to “break out session A” and let’s shake hands and exchange pleasantries!

Thanks to Erik Telford for setting it all up for me.

Americans for Prosperity: A Message to Governor Quinn‏

Americans for Prosperity applauds Governor Quinn for opening an online comment portal offering the general public an opportunity to view and comment on the states budget dilemma.

On March 10, 2010 Governor Quinn will be making his annual budget address. Governor Quinn has made it clear that he believes the only way out of the states financial mess is to raise our taxes.

Americans for Prosperity strongly disagrees!

Americans for Prosperity, Illinois: Needing YOUR Help for the Primaries

AFP-IL is part of broad, growing coalition that has come together in effort to change Illinois politics in a big way.

For the last 3 decades, legislators have created their own districts after drawing a name out of hat!

Illinois is the ONLY state in the nation that allows this magic trick to determine such an important issue. Instead of the people choosing legislators, the legislators choose the people. This leads to a failing system of government that is not responsive to the people.

LETS TAKE BACK OUR GOVERNMENT! The Illinois Fair Map Amendment will take redistricting out of the hands of the legislator and put into the hands of in independent commission, making the process more transparent, fair and accessible to the public.

We need to collect 500,000 petition signatures by April 1, 2010. WE NEED YOUR HELP!
