Schwarzenegger Flexes Muscle for Moscow While Obama Ignores Warnings from Russian Dissidents

-By Toby Westerman

California governor, and former film superhero, Arnold Schwarzenegger has pledged to lead a trade mission to Russia and assist “in any way possible” Russia’s drive to develop its own high tech “Silicon Valley.” U.S. president Barack Obama has also promised his backing in facilitating the flow of U.S. technology to Russia.

The eager participation of Schwarzenegger and Obama in exporting U.S. technological capabilities came during Russian president Dmitry Medvedev’s three day visit (June 22-24) to the United States. Medvedev was looking for technological assistance, and in return offered an increase in U.S. corporate profits and an attractive return for investors.

Medvedev’s campaign for venture capital and high tech aid occurred as his “new” Russia is looking increasingly like the old Soviet Union. Stark warnings about the true intensions of the Moscow elite are coming from vocal opponents within Russia, but are ignored by many in positions of power and influence in the United States.

The Russian “Silicon Valley” effort, known as the Skolkovo Project, named after the Moscow suburb in which it is located, has already gained wide support in the U.S. Boeing, Google, and Cisco are among the U.S. corporate giants participating in Skolkovo, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) has agreed to participate in joint research with Skolkovo. MIT may establish, with Russian high tech corporations, a separate research group located at Skolkovo.

Petition to Remove Statue of Murderer Stalin from D-Day Memorial

-By Warner Todd Huston

There has been a lot of anger over the inclusion of a statue of Joseph Stalin, Russia’s murderous WWII dictator, in our National D-Day Memorial in Bedford, Virginia. As a result of that anger a petition has been started to remove the Stalin celebration from the National D-Day Memorial.

Thousands of Americans feel that including a statue celebrating the life of this monster is the wrong way to go about memorializing Russia’s sacrifice during WWII and they want the statue pulled down.

Others, though, say that if we pull down the statue we are whitewashing history. After all, they say, we have statues to the other Allied leaders and excluding Stalin just makes no sense.

I disagree with those that think we must memorialize Stalin in order to be true to a valid accounting of history. What should have been done to memorialize Russia’s dear sacrifice during WWII was to recognize the nation’s effort without building a statue to one of the worst murderers in human history. The statue should have been of Russia itself, not Stalin.

Moscow Show Trials Redux

-By Thomas E. Brewton

Obama’s shameful campaign to criminalize officials in the Bush administration is reminiscent of Stalin’s purges of his opponents in 1936-38.

Through the office of Attorney General Eric Holder, President Obama actively supported a witch-hunt aimed at destroying the careers of Bush administration attorneys who provided legal advice about the limits upon interrogating captured Islamic terrorists. Hating President Bush wasn’t enough. It was necessary figuratively to spill some blood.

Between 1936 and 1938 Stalin staged public trials of of Soviet military and political leaders whom he regarded as rivals. All of the trials resulted in convictions and executions for alleged treason.

American liberal-progressives at the time applauded the show trials as necessary to stop opposition to socialistic progress toward perfection of human nature and political society. In fact, liberal-progressives continued to defend the trials until after the fall of the Soviet Union and revelation of KGB documents.
