Reason #9 to Vote Out Phil Hare

From the Schilling for Congress campaign (17th District)…

Reason #9: Phil Hare voted for the failed $787 billion stimulus.

EAST MOLINE, IL–The Bobby Schilling for Congress campaign unveiled the ninth reason in their “20 Reasons to Vote Out Phil Hare” series. The series focuses on Phil Hare’s record and explains why he does not deserve re-election. The campaign will release one reason per day up until the election.

Reason #9 to Vote Phil Hare Out of Office: Phil Hare voted for the failed $787 billion stimulus.

In January of 2009, the Obama Administration promised that passing the economic stimulus bill would hold unemployment under 8%. However, since the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act became law, unemployment has shot up to 10.1 percent in Illinois and currently stands at 9.6 percent nationwide.

We were promised the stimulus would create between 3 and 4 million jobs. Since the stimulus passed, we have 6,000 jobs being shipped overseas.

Bobby Frederick, communications director for the Bobby Schilling campaign, said that the verdict is in, and the stimulus has failed.

“People in Illinois are still asking, ‘where are all the jobs?’ Twenty months and nearly $1 trillion later, it’s clear the stimulus was ineffective,” Frederick said. “We need a clean break from the policies of the past four years. Democrats proclaimed a ‘Recovery Summer’ even though we lost 298,000 jobs during June, July and August. Despite this, Phil Hare still believes we’re ‘headed in the right direction.’ While our current elected leaders fail to recognize the true state of our economy, the people of Illinois have been paying attention. It’s time for a fresh start in Washington. It’s time to send the career politician packing and elect a small businessman to Congress. That is the change we need.”

The stimulus also contained some particularly wasteful expenditures, including:

Bobby Schilling, a native of Rock Island, graduated from Alleman High School and attended Black Hawk College. Schilling, a local business owner, is the Republican candidate for the 17th Congressional District in Illinois. Bobby is running on a platform of bringing jobs and real representation back to the 17th District. Earlier this year, Schilling conducted a 34-city “Bob’s for Jobs” tour, where he met with voters and employers all across the 17th District. Schilling was recently named an official ‘Young Gun’ by the National Republican Congressional Committee in their Young Guns program of top tiered races.
