Kinzinger Launches 2012 Campaign for U.S. Congress

From the office of Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R, Illinois 11th District)…

Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman Adam Kinzinger, along with hundreds of supporters, launched his 2012 election campaign. Kinzinger cited that Washington needs a fresh approach, with strong, conservative voices that will fight to create an environment where more private-sector jobs can be created and where government will become less relevant in people’s everyday life.

“We must have strong voices in Washington who will carry out the people’s agenda,” Kinzinger said. “We need people who remember they work for you – not those who have been in Congress for decades and believe Washington knows best. Government doesn’t know best – the small business owners who know what it’s like to sign the front of a paycheck, rather than the back, do.”

Kinzinger outlined several straightforward steps Washington must take to create an environment that encourages job growth, rather than one that hampers their development, including:

  • Tackling our debt head on and eliminating unnecessary spending
  • Reducing the size and scope of government and reining in out-of-control regulations
  • Simplifying the tax code
  • Enacting the three pending free trade agreements with Colombia, Panama, and South Korea
  • Increasing energy production here at home – making out nation energy secure, lowering the cost of gas and creating new domestic jobs

These commonsense measures “are not rocket science, it’s not something you must spend 20 years in Washington to understand,” said Kinzinger. “These are straightforward solutions that I’ve consistently heard from job creators across the country.”

Kinzinger also pointed to the work House freshmen have done in just nine months to change the conversation from how much to spend to how much to cut.

“We must continue to make the bold but necessary budget cuts that will refuel our economy and leave future generations with the same opportunities many of us have been blessed with,” Kinzinger said. “We can accomplish this. It won’t happen overnight – it will take hard work and commitment to change our current trajectory – but with your help, it won’t take us 20 years, either.”

While Kinzinger said revitalizing our economy is achievable, he urged for immediate action and a clean break from the past.

“Every day of inaction is a day we will never get back,” Kinzinger said. “We simply cannot afford to sit back and continue to let more debt pile on to the backs of our kids and grandkids. Ultimately, history will judge us by whether we decided to stand up and fight to chart a new course or stood by and allowed the same go-along; get along politics to consume Washington.”

Since he was sworn into the United States Congress in January 2011, Kinzinger was named to the Energy and Commerce Committee and to the Republican Whip team serving as a Deputy Whip. As a freshman in the House, Kinzinger’s efforts have made progress as noted by the Washington Post who cited, “Freshman Rep Adam Kinzinger could serve as a poster boy for the new breed of conservatives who are eager to wipe out government waste and inefficiency – no matter where they find it.”
