Washington Could Learn a Lot from a Drug Addict

Arlington, VA – Public Notice Research & Educational Fund (PNREF), begins airing its powerful, national television ad titled “Washington Could Learn A Lot From A Drug Addict.” This ad originally aired on Fox News Channel and NBC during Sunday talk shows, and today, will show on Bravo, Comedy Central, Fox News Channel, CNN, Headline News, and MSNBC.

With over 500 thousand views on YouTube, this compelling 30-second TV ad is part of a new educational project and interactive website called “Washington Could Learn A Lot” (www.washingtoncouldlearnalot.com).

“Washington Could Learn A Lot” highlights “best practices” so Washington can learn to better manage the country’s frail economy more responsibly.

Gretchen Hamel, President of Public Notice Research & Education Fund, said:

“Washington, D.C. is addicted to spending money that doesn’t belong to them. Instead of searching for solutions, they seek out another fix, which leaves our nation more in debt.

“These politicians make budget negotiations sound as complicated as sending a man to the moon. They’re not. Everyday Americans make decisions, break bad habits and get their lives back on track. Elected officials could learn a lot from these examples. They do require one attribute that seems to largely be missing from the debate: courage.”

America could learn a lot… from a drug addict. Even though this country’s $14 trillion in debt – Washington raised the debt ceiling 10 times in the last 10 years. Each time – it’s like another hit – another spending hit. But you’re the junkies. 41 cents out of every dollar you spend is borrowed –from places like China. So China is like your dealer… And your addiction and your dealer control your life. To borrow less – you need to spend less. Yeah – Washington could learn a lot from a drug addict.

PNREF is a sister organization of Public Notice, an independent, nonpartisan, 501(c)(4) which just launched its fourth ad campaign, wrapping Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority buses and bus shelters to drive home the organization’s message of “don’t raise the debt ceiling without cutting spending.”
