You gotta hand it to new Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle. Not only has she risen above her goofy name and won a highly important political position, but she’s achieved the art of almost saying something that she means.
Of course there’s another thing you have to hand to her. For a Democrat she’s been doing a fair bit of cutting of the Cook County budget. She could do far more, of course, but at least she’s doing something.
Anyway, back to the “almost saying something she means” thingie…
Preckwinkle (that’s fun to say, isn’t it? Prrrrwreck-Weeeenkle), fired a whole mess of money-wasting political appointees in the President’s Office of Employment Training (POET) because, well, these people just filled meaningless positions. These political hack jobs had no legitimate purpose and Preckwinkle told the Old Media that this was so… well, she almost did, anyway.
Here is what Preckwinkle said of why she fired these people:
You know, I think POET was one of the places where people who had political connections were placed without regard to their competence.
Um… huh? These useless, money-wasting jobs wee filled with people that had “political connections” and had their jobs because they were “placed without regard to their competence” in them?
Come on, Mrs. Prrrrwreck-Weeeenkle. You know damn well you meant they were political hacks that had no purpose but to rip off the treasury. Why couldn’t you have just said that straight out?
Silly politicians.
If she keeps this up her beating-around-the-bush style is going to have to be called “Winklewagging.”
