From the Schilling for Congress campaign (17th District)…
Gov. Edgar: Schilling will “benefit our country”
EAST MOLINE, IL–Former Illinois Governor Jim Edgar has endorsed Bobby Schilling in his run for Congress in the Illinois 17th District. Edgar was governor from 1991-1999, and under his stewardship, Illinois achieved smaller government and a budget surplus. Known as a pragmatist and an independent thinker, Edgar says he believes Bobby Schilling is built in the same mold.
“Bobby Schilling will stand for greater fiscal responsibility in Washington and bring an effective managerial style that will benefit our country,” Edgar said. “His belief in fiscal responsibility, focus on jobs, and passion to serve will benefit families in Illinois. Our state has been through some tough years, but I am confident that Bobby’s background as a small business owner and a family man will make him a great representative for the people in the Illinois 17th District.”
Bobby Schilling said he was honored to have Gov. Edgar’s endorsement.
“I am truly thankful to be endorsed by Governor Edgar,” Schilling said. “Jim Edgar is a statesman whose policies led Illinois to much more prosperous economic times. He reminds all of us of a more ethical and successful tenure in Illinois state government. I will do my best to follow this example and be an effective representative.”
Bobby Schilling, a native of Rock Island, graduated from Alleman High School and attended Black Hawk College. Schilling, a local business owner, is the Republican candidate for the 17th Congressional District in Illinois. Bobby is running on a platform of bringing jobs and real representation back to the 17th District. Earlier this year, Schilling conducted a 34-city “Bob’s for Jobs” tour, where he met with voters and employers all across the 17th District. Schilling was recently named an official ‘Young Gun’ by the National Republican Congressional Committee in their Young Guns program of top tiered races.
Debate will be aired Wednesday night at 7pm
EAST MOLINE, IL–Bobby Schilling, Republican candidate for Congress in the Illinois 17th District, Democrat Congressman Phil Hare, and Green Party candidate Roger Davis will debate this week. The debate will air on WQPT this Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. with the taping taking place on Tuesday. WQAD-TV news anchor Jim Mertens will moderate the hour-long debate.
Bobby Frederick, communications director for the Bobby Schilling campaign, said this debate will be a great opportunity for voters to hear the candidates on the issues.
“Bobby Schilling is a small business owner, not a career politician,” said Frederick. “Bobby looks forward to speaking to the voters about the issues that matter to them. There is a stark contrast between Congressman Hare’s three decades of political experience and Bobby Schilling’s 13 years of small business experience.”
