Schilling: “How can you lecture me on outsourcing when you vote for policies that directly cause it?”
EAST MOLINE, IL–Bobby Schilling, Republican candidate for Congress in the Illinois 17th District, challenged Rep. Hare to explain his voting record on outsourcing.
Rep. Hare recently told the Quincy Herald-Whig, in regards to the US-Korea Free Trade Agreement, “I’m not going to vote for this agreement or any other one that costs even one America job. Enough is enough.”
In Rep. Hare’s first television commercial, he asked viewers to vote for him, saying “If you’re sick of Washington sending our jobs abroad and tired of China making things that should be built here in Illinois, then I’d appreciate your support.”
“Rep. Hare, how can you lecture me on outsourcing when you vote for policies that directly cause it?” Schilling said. “I think the voters are starting to realize that, when it comes to protecting jobs here in the United States, Rep. Hare is a fraud. He has supported bill after bill that sends jobs overseas. It’s no wonder unemployment has doubled under his watch. I don’t support sending a single job overseas, and with me, that’s not just rhetoric, it’s the truth.”
Rep. Hare has indeed supported policies that send our jobs overseas. In the last four years, he has voted for…
The 2009 $787 Stimulus Package (The American Reinvestment and Recovery Act)
* In addition to failing to provide a promised 3.6 million jobs (we’ve lost 2.7 million jobs since the bill’s passage), the stimulus package contained several $500 million job grants to China and other foreign countries for “environmentally friendly projects” that sent jobs away from the United States.
Cap and Trade (The American Clean Energy and Security Act)
* “Cap and Tax” is a national energy tax that passed the House but luckily failed in the Senate. This bill would have sent 2.5 million jobs overseas.
The GM Bailout
* Rep. Hare voted for the initial $14 billion auto bailout, which passed the House but failed in the Senate. However, the bailout has been paid for by TARP funds to the tune of $85 billion. GM recently announced they would invest $500 million in a plant to be built in northern Mexico. Federal funds directly led to a project that outsourced more American jobs.
The Healthcare Reform (The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act)
* The new healthcare bill raises taxes by over $475 billion, insurance prices are increasing, and people are losing their healthcare plans. According to the National Federation of Independent Business, the employer mandate tax will cost 1.6 million jobs by 2014. This bill will crush our economy unless it is repealed.
Higher Taxes
* Rep. Hare supports allowing the 2001 and 2003 tax cuts to expire, raising the corporate tax rate to 39%, raising dividends taxes to 39%, raising capital gains taxes to 39%, and adding 22 new taxes in the healthcare bill. As of now, if Congress does nothing, all five income tax brackets will see tax increases. These tax increases will make a bad business environment worse.
