From the Schilling for Congress campaign (17th District)…
Illinois Republican reaches ‘Young Gun’ status with clear path to victory
(From the NRCC)
Washington, DC–The National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) announced today that Bobby Schilling (IL-17) has reached ‘Young Gun’ status, the premiere level of its three-tiered Young Guns program. By advancing to the program’s top tier, Schilling has proven his ability to build a winning campaign and achieve substantial fundraising goals.
“Bobby Schilling has proven that he’s ready to take on incumbent Phil Hare, an out-of-touch Democrat who has blindly supported his party’s failed agenda of job-killing policies and reckless spending,” said NRCC Chairman Pete Sessions (R-TX). “Bobby’s campaign is a symbol of the growing momentum behind Republican candidates in Illinois and across the country. As Democrats and their party bosses continue to force their big-government, big-spending policies onto the backs of hard-working families, Republicans like Bobby Schilling will continue to present a clear alternative to a Democrat majority that unapologetically spends too much, borrows too much and taxes too much.”
After a career that included time spent as a local union steward, Bobby Schilling decided to become his own boss and opened a successful restaurant in Moline, IL. The ups and downs of running their own business and raising a family have taught Schilling and his wife, Christie, the importance of being fiscally responsible. Schilling understands that economic prosperity can only return to the 17th District when Washington stops shelling out taxpayer dollars on wasteful projects that are creating more government instead of more jobs.
Originally founded in the 2007-2008 election cycle by Reps. Eric Cantor (R-VA), Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), and Paul Ryan (R-WI) as a member-driven organization, the Young Guns program has become an official NRCC effort dedicated to electing open-seat and challenger candidates nationwide. Reps. Cantor, McCarthy and Ryan remain actively involved in Young Guns, working together to recruit and prime conservative leaders for victory.
Now that Bobby Schilling has completed the Young Guns’ benchmarks to place him on the road to victory, he is ready to take on loyal lapdog Democrat Phil Hare in November.
