From the Hayes for Congress campaign (2nd District)…
CHICAGO: The following is an open letter released today by Isaac C. Hayes, GOP nominee for Congress in IL-2, in response to Jr.’s “moment of truth” on news radio WLS 890am.
Yesterday morning, Mr. Congressman, you told Dan Proft and Bruce Wolf, who were guest-hosting the Don Wade and Roma Show on WLS, “There’s probably going to have to be a significant reform of other social programs as the Federal Government assumes more responsibility for health care for the nation’s people, there are other social programs that are probably going to undermine some elements of social cohesion, there’s no doubt about that.”
It appears, sir, that you just can’t tell the truth. You began your interview by saying “The bill is fully paid for” and then go on to say “anyone operating under any assumptions that this won’t have a profound impact on social programs…is kidding themselves.” Which one is it?
Let the truth be told. You said you were voting for this bill to better our communities, to help cut the budget deficit and to lower premiums making them more affordable. Now we learn that all this time you were aware head start programs for single mothers, school vouchers for disadvantaged families, and Medicare for our seniors would have to be sacrificed for government control of our health care system.
According to you, nearly 330,000 members of our district will receive health care. The 2000 Census listed the districts count at 650,000 residents, meaning half of our district has been without coverage. My question to you sir is, What were you doing for the past 16 years that half of your district is finally getting health insurance?
Instead of focusing on the Mayor’s seat in Chicago and the people’s seat in the United States Senate, your focus should have been on creating jobs, small business opportunities and improving our schools – you have done none of this.
Our district is watching and they recognize that you can give a good speech, but your leadership leaves a lot to be desired. We need real leadership in Illinois’ 2nd District and I intend to provide it with honesty and integrity so that it doesn’t take another 16 years for half the members of our district to find jobs, start their own businesses, or locate safe schools where their children can receive a quality education.
