From the Joe Walsh for Congress campaign…
Lake Zurich: Joe Walsh, candidate for Congress in the 8th Congressional District, is calling on Melissa Bean to be more specific about what issues she views as “extreme”. In a recent e-mail blast to her supporters Bean refers to the Republican Primary field of candidates as possessing “extreme right wing views.”
“Melissa Bean needs to come clean this election on what she views as “extreme.” Candidates should be straightforward and honest with their constituents or future constituents on where they stand on the issues and when leveling a charge against another candidate they should possess the intestinal fortitude to be spcific about that charge,” said Walsh.
“For example: I view Melissa Bean’s position on abortion as “extreme”. She recently voted for taxpayer funding of abortion when she voted against the Stupak amendment which would have barred such funding. The vast majority of her constituents, even thse who refer to themselves as Prochoice, oppose the use of taxpayer dollars to pay for abortion. By definition her position is ‘extreme’,” said Walsh.
“Melissa Bean has waltzed her way around the issues for several election cycles now. She has been dismissive of her opponents by calling them names such as ‘extremists’ but I will not let her get away with a hand wave. In the November election I am prepared to go toe to toe with Melissa Bean on the issues. I beleive that the public deserves a healthy debate over these issues and not name calling,’ said Walsh.
“The kind of campaign that Melissa Bean is indicating is an insult to the voters of the 8th Congressional District. If I am successful in the Primary election on February 2nd I will immediately call for a series of debates with Ms. Bean. There are nine full months from February 2nd to that first Tuesday in November. There will be ample time to schedule debates without any excuses from the Bean camp,” said Walsh.
