Kirk, Lipinski, Hultgren Call for Extension of Surface Transportation Legislation

From the office of Rep. Randy Hultgren (14th District)…

Longer-term bipartisan bill could mobilize $100 billion in new public-private partnerships

Chicago, IL – In a show of bipartisan, bi-cameral unity United States Senator Mark Kirk, Congressman Dan Lipinski (IL-3), and Congressman Randy Hultgren (IL-14) joined representatives from the Illinois Road Builders Association, Operating Engineers Local 150 and other transportation advocates in calling for Congress to extend the expiring Surface Transportation Act. This legislation authorizes federal transportation projects across the nation, and allows the collection of revenues that fund infrastructure improvements. It was introduced in the House late Friday that would extend aviation programs through January and highway and transit programs through March. If Congress does not adopt this act by September 30th, federal reimbursement of highway and transit projects will stop, with $100 million in funding lost each day.

“Congress should quickly approve this extension legislation to avoid a shutdown of the Highway Trust Fund,” said Kirk. “We also support a longer-term solution by lifting federal barriers that could mobilize up to $100 billion for transportation private-public partnerships.”

Hultgren Statement On the 10th Anniversary of the 9/11 Attacks

From the office of Rep. Randy Hultgren (14th District)…

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Rep. Randy Hultgren (IL-14) today released the following statement on the 10th Anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.

“My thoughts and prayers go out to all those who felt the tragic loss of a family member, friend or loved one in the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001,” said Hultgren. “Let us also remember the many heroes from that day, first responders, members of the military, and ordinary citizens who answered the call of duty without hesitation. I encourage all Americans to take a moment to reflect on that fateful day – remember where you were and the feelings that you experienced when you learned of the attacks and pledge to never take our safety, security, or freedom for granted.”

Hultgren Statement On President Obama’s Address To Congress

From the office of Rep. Randy Hultgren (14th District)…

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Rep. Randy Hultgren (IL-14) tonight released the following statement regarding President Barack Obama’s address to a joint session of Congress.

Tonight, I attended President Obama’s address to Congress because, although I expected partisan rhetoric but little in the way of new ideas, I felt that it was my constitutional responsibility to do so. Unfortunately, despite his premise of bipartisanship, the President’s prescriptions for our economy were political and wholly inadequate. Once again he urged more scattershot ‘stimulus’ spending, at a time when we should be husbanding our constituents’ hard-earned tax dollars and ensuring that they are spent as wisely as possible.

I agree with President Obama that investing in our nation’s infrastructure is needed and will create jobs. But we cannot do so blindly. We must ensure that our investments are targeted and timely, and we must work hard to cut red tape and limit the permitting delays that currently plague our investments in infrastructure improvement.

While I also believe that tax reform is long overdue, I was disappointed to hear him resurrect his calls on increasing taxes. It is absolutely the wrong time to be raising taxes on Americans that Main Street often calls small business owners, entrepreneurs, or job creators.

Hultgren Statement on August Jobs Report

From the office of Rep. Randy Hultgren (Ill. 14th District)…

Geneva, IL – U.S. Rep. Randy Hultgren (IL-14) today released the following statement regarding the August unemployment report released by the U.S. Department of Labor.

“August’s dismal jobs report is disappointing, but unsurprising, so long as this Administration continues to pursue its anti-jobs agenda of burdensome regulations, taxes, and out-of-control spending,” said Hultgren. “Despite his claims to be cutting red tape, the reality is that President Obama and his appointed bureaucrats are proposing even more regulations that threaten to do enormous damage to our fragile economy.”

“Before he comes to Congress next week, I urge President Obama to study the commonsense pro-growth agenda Republicans will be adopting this fall. More taxes and spending won’t get our economy moving and put Americans back to work; that requires fostering a pro-growth economic climate; lessening intrusions by unaccountable bureaucrats; and providing certainty about what Washington will do in the future.”

Hultgren, Illinois Representatives, Call On Illinois Legislature To Enact Concealed-Carry Legislation

From the office of Rep. Randy Hultgren (Ill. 14th)…

Geneva, IL – U.S. Rep. Randy Hultgren (IL-14) today released the following statement regarding a letter he recently sent to Illinois leaders, including Governor Quinn, Attorney General Madigan, and legislative leaders from both parties, calling on them to join every other state in the nation and enact concealed-carry legislation.

“I was dismayed to learn that Illinois is now the only state in the nation that does not recognize its citizens’ Second Amendment right to concealed carry,” said Rep. Hultgren. “The Supreme Court has twice affirmed self-defense as a fundamental right in recent years, and it past time that Illinoisans enjoy that right as every other American does. I hope Governor Quinn and the legislature will pass concealed carry legislation in a timely manner so that Illinoisans can enjoy the legal right to protect themselves.”

In the letter, Hultgren detailed recent Supreme Court decisions from The District of Columbia v. Heller (2008) and McDonald v. Chicago (2010). In the case from 2008, the Supreme Court ruled that the Second Amendment guarantees an individual’s right to possess a firearm. In the second case, from 2010, they ruled that the Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms for self defense in one’s home is fully applicable to the states through the Fourteenth Amendment.

Rep. Randy Hultgren News: The Hultgren Huddle

From the office of Rep. Randy Hultgren (ILL, 14th District)…

It’s been a great month so far back in the 14th District. I’d like to thank everyone for coming out to my town hall meetings this month. We may not agree on all of the issues, but it means so much to me that you are willing to be engaged in the process and have your opinions heard on the issues most important to you.

Please remember that I am holding another town hall meeting on Monday, August 29, in the Yorkville City Council Chambers at 6:00pm. Hope to see you there.

I’ve always said that some of my most important work is done back home in Illinois, and that’s absolutely been the case this August. While I’ve been home, I’ve had the opportunity to meet with hundreds of constituents through one-on-one meetings, speeches to different groups and organizations, and local business tours.

How Did The Illinois GOP Delegation Vote on Boehner’s Debt Bill?

-By Warner Todd Huston

So, it was claimed to be the end of the world if Congress didn’t vote on the debt bill. But not every Illinois Republican voted to support GOP leader and House Speaker John Boehner’s bill. Let’s see how the Illinois GOP delegation voted, shall we?

The most vocal opponent of the bill was the 8th District’s Joe Walsh. He said that he could not, in good conscience, vote yes on the bill. Amusingly, he said in a radio interview on WLS that if he saw Speaker Boehner headed his way with the intent to change his mind, he’d turn and run the other way.

To his credit, Walsh did not try and claim that he would stand fast in the face of a direct Boehner appeal, but he did say that he was voting his conscience regardless.

Illinois Congressmen Help Tip in Big Labor Amendment

-By Warner Todd Huston

On Monday I alerted you all to a jobs-killing, union-favoring amendment being considered in the House of Representatives in Washington, one that needed to be defeated. Unfortunately, the amendment was successful and now, in this dour economy, unions will be able to make matters worse just when we need a shot in the arm. (See previous post for particulars of the bill.)

Sadly, we lost this battle by one stinking vote and this example shows that even though we may have a GOP controlled House of Reps. they still don’t always support conservative measures — and they need to be carefully watched! Those supporting this jobs-killing amendment numbered 204 and those voting in favor of economic success only numbered 203. (25 representatives did not vote at all)

Now, seeing as how I am from Illinois — the most corrupt state in the union — I focused in my previous post on those of the Illinois Republican delegation that had in the past supported Big Labor bills similar to the one in question. So, this is a follow up to that report.

Urge Congress to Vote ‘NO’ On Striking $$ Saving Section From Federal Construction Projects Bill (Illinois Especially)

-By Warner Todd Huston

Today there may be a vote on striking a section of H.R. 2055 that will insure that federal construction projects for the military are fairly priced and will save money for the taxpayers. Some representatives want this advantageous section struck out and replaced with a union-favoring provision that will cost the tax payers millions and will cause even more job loss in an already failing economy.

The bill is the Military Construction (MilCon) and Veterans Affairs (VA) and Related Agencies Appropriations Act of 2012 (H.R. 2055). The section the Democrats want to eliminate is section 415.

Section 415 removes the requirement for companies bidding for federal construction projects for the military to sign anti-competitive project labor agreements (PLAs) that will force these companies to pay union dues, union benefits and adhere to union rules regardless if the companies themselves are staffed by union members of not.

Peter Roskam, Ill. Delegation Mostly Disappointed With Obama’s Libya Policies

-By Warner Todd Huston

Despite initially intending to skip a public address, President Obama finally came before the nation last night to speak about his plans and ideas for America’s engagement in Libya. Unfortunately there are more questions than answers still and members of the Illinois congressional delegation are less than satisfied with Obama’s Libya policies.

For one, Peter Roskam (R, 6th), Chief Deputy Whip of the GOP led House, is less than happy with Obama’s televised appearance.

Even though it comes nine days after our military became engaged in Libya, I am pleased President Obama took the opportunity to address the country tonight. Unfortunately many questions still remain. Even with a nationally-televised, widely-promoted speech, Americans still don’t have the answer to a basic and essential question: what is the benchmark for success in Libya?

Illinois Congressman Adam Kinzinger (R, 11th) went a step farther yesterday and said that, even though he is not advocating sending troops at this time, we should not automatically rule out sending in American ground troops. “What you end up seeing is when you say we’re never going to send in American troops–you take away that ability to use that as a trump card or leverage.”

(Video) Townhall Meeting With Mark Kirk and Randy Hultgren, Saint Charles, Illinois

-By Warner Todd Huston

On Dec. 11, 2010, I attended a townhall meeting held in the 14th Congressional District featuring Congressman-elect Randy Hultgren and newly minted Senator Mark Kirk. The event was held in the theater of a local high school in Saint Charles, Illinois.

The afternoon started out with an address by Senator Mark Kirk who already was sworn in for an interim term and will be starting his first full term as senator in January. After Kirk finished his opening remarks, Mr. Hultgren spoke and then there was some time for questions for the audience.

Kirk spoke for a strong defense, he spoke for fiscal responsibility and he spoke against the DREAM Act. For his part, Mr. Hultgren didn’t have much to say past his recently successful campaign talking points. But that is to be expected since he has not yet been to Washington to be involved in the issues in our nation’s capitol. Hultgren won’t take office until Jan. 5. Both men strongly spoke in favor of repealing Obamacare.

I have video of both men’s comments. I took the video with my hand-held Flip cam so it may be a bit shaky here and there. (And on the Kirk video I had to set the camera down for half a minute to turn my phone off as I got a call in the middle of his remarks. I thought I had turned it off, but obviously forgot to do so! So my apologies there.)

Here is the video of the two gentleman’s remarks…

Hultgren Campaign Urges TV Stations to Stop Running Dishonest Foster Ad

From the Hultgren for Congress campaign (14th District)…

ST. CHARLES – The Randy Hultgren for Congress campaign today sent a letter to Chicago-area TV stations, informing them that they are not required to air dishonest television advertisements paid for by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.

“Today’s letter to the four stations informs them that the DCCC’s advertisement intentionally and knowingly deceives viewers about Randy’s status as the only anti-tax candidate in this race, and reminds them that they are under no obligation to run the ad,” said campaign manager John Cooney. “The stations also have an obligation to their viewers, per the Federal Communications Commission, to protect the public from false, misleading deceptive advertising, and the ad in question is all three. Rather than touting Congressman Foster’s record of supporting Nancy Pelosi 93% of the time in Washington, the DCCC has instead chosen to knowingly distort Randy’s record and position on the issues that matter to constituents.”

Who Is Congressman Bill Foster? (Ill., 14th District)

Do you want to see a report card of the work of Representative Bill Foster? It isn’t very good…

For instance, Foster voted 93 percent of the time with that most extremely left-wing Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi. He’s solidly behind Obamacare, the government takeover of our healthcare.

Hultgren Was Tonight’s Winner In St. Charles

From the Hultgren for Congress campaign (14th District)…

ST. CHARLES – The Randy Hultgren for Congress campaign issued the following statement tonight after the League of Women Voters candidate forum in St. Charles.

“With his clearly articulated, positive vision for the future and his commonsense solutions to the problems confronting our nation’s economy and workforce, Randy Hultgren was clearly the winner in tonight’s debate,” said John Cooney, Hultgren for Congress campaign manager. “Voters have a choice between Bill Foster’s unwavering support for Nancy Pelosi’s reckless agenda of rampant spending, higher taxes and bigger government or Hultgren’s plans for limiting the size and scope of our federal government, lower taxes and responsible government. Voters in the 14th District realize that Congress is broken and that Randy Hultgren will fight to restore a commonsense approach in Washington.”

Hultgren Meets With Small Business Advisory Committee

From the Hultgren for Congress campaign (14th District)…

ST. CHARLES – Randy Hultgren, Republican candidate for Congress, met with more than fifty 14th District small business owners and employees today, members of the Hultgren campaign’s Small Business Advisory Committee. The National Federation of Independent Business and U.S. Chamber of Commerce have endorsed Hultgren.

“This morning’s meeting was a great opportunity for me to hear the concerns and needs of small business owners and employers from across our district,” said Randy Hultgren. “Small business owners and employers remain deeply concerned about the alarmingly anti-business climate in Washington – the out-of-control spending, the looming tax hikes, and the uncertain regulatory climate that discourages investment and growth.

“They also know, as I do, that getting our economy moving and putting Americans back to work doesn’t require massive Washington spending programs but will instead require commonsense government. To restore economic prosperity, we need to keep taxes low and regulations reasonable, and work to reduce spending and the national debt.”

Hultgren Campaign Releases New Ad, ‘Given’

From the Hultgren for Congress campaign (14th District)…

ST. CHARLES – The Randy Hultgren for Congress campaign released their third ad, “Given,” today, reminding voters of Bill Foster’s reckless, desperate attempt to save his job and Foster’s misguided record of voting for the Wall Street bailout, the government takeover of health care, and the so-called “stimulus.”

“Randy Hultgren’s latest ad takes aim at Bill Foster’s desperate attempts to distract voters from his out-of-touch Washington record of spending, bailouts, government takeovers, the Foster-Pelosi government takeover of health care and their impact on our economy through persistently high unemployment,” said Gill Stevens, Hultgren campaign spokesman. “Foster owes it to his constituents to stop the lies and smear tactics and run the final weeks of his campaign on his so-called accomplishments.”

Bill’s Boondoggle: Multibillion Dollar ‘Stimulus’ Still A Failure

From the Hultgren for Congress campaign (14th District)…

ST. CHARLES – The Randy Hultgren for Congress campaign issued the following statement today regarding the so-called ‘stimulus,’ a failed piece of legislation supported wholeheartedly by Bill Foster.

“Friday’s dismal jobs report, revealing that 95,000 more Americans lost their jobs and that unemployment remained stagnantly high at almost 10 percent, is a further reminder of the failure of Bill’s boondoggle, Congressman Foster’s so-called ‘stimulus,’” said Gill Stevens, spokesman for the Hultgren campaign. “We were promised that if the ‘stimulus’ was passed, unemployment would never go above 8 percent – but for seventeen consecutive months, unemployment has exceeded 9 percent.

Fact Checking Rep. Foster’s Lies

From the Hultgren for Congress campaign (14th District)…

With election day only four weeks away, Congressman Foster has grown increasingly desperate in his attempts to draw voter attention away from his abhorrent record.

Think about it, what else does Bill Foster have to run on? What possible reason would the voters of the 14th District have to re-elect him?

  • His lock-step voting record with Nancy Pelosi 92.6% of the time?
  • His support for the Wall Street bailout?
  • His support for the government takeover of health care?
  • His support of the failed stimulus that failed to keep unemployment below 8%?
  • His support for every single spending bill coming out of Congress?
  • His support for the upcoming tax increases that Congress has failed to prevent?

Hultgren Endorsed By Council For Citizens Against Government Waste

From the Hultgren for Congress campaign (14th District)…

ST. CHARLES – State Senator Randy Hultgren, Republican candidate for Congress, released the following statement today after being endorsed by the Council for Citizens Against Government Waste. In their release, the Council praised Hultgren as “a bona fide fiscal conservative committed to reducing the size of government,” and “a principled advocate for lower taxes and smaller government.”

“I’m proud to be endorsed by the Council for Citizens Against Government Waste, a group of concerned Americans who have fought passionately to cut wasteful spending and return fiscal sanity to Washington, DC, and I look forward to joining them in the ongoing effort to protect Illinois taxpayers,” said Hultgren.

Local Realtors Respond To Washington, DC-Based Realtor Ads

ST. CHARLES – The Randy Hultgren for Congress campaign released the following statements from local real estate agents in response to the National Association of Realtors’ television ad campaign on Bill Foster’s behalf.

“I’m honored to have the support of our local realtors. Whatever the National Association of Realtors may say in Washington, DC, our local realtors know that we need common sense, Illinois values in order to restore fiscal sanity in Washington, and that Bill Foster’s unwavering support of Nancy Pelosi, 92% of the time, is what continues to suppress the local housing market,” said Randy Hultgren.

Statements From Local Realtors:

“While the National Association of Realtors has chosen to support the incumbent, as a local Realtor and past president of the Illinois Association of Realtors, I have known Randy Hultgren and support the views that Randy will take to Congress. We need a non-Nancy Pelosi-led agenda in Washington that will not tax and spend us into a stagnant economy that hurts all Illinoisans. Randy Hultgren will work for common sense solutions that will get our economy moving again, and I’m proud to support him.”
— Pat Callan, Realty Executives Premiere; Past President, Illinois Association Of Realtors

“I’m dumbfounded and disappointed that the National Association of Realtors has chosen to support Bill Foster. Bill Foster hasn’t fulfilled the promises he made to us in 2008, has shown no independence from Nancy Pelosi, and has been a willing participant in the binge-spending that has come out of Washington. I don’t consider myself a conservative, but I want to leave something for my kids, and that means we need to get spending under control; I know Randy Hultgren will work to do that in Washington.”

Statement On Two-Year Anniversary Of Foster’s Government Bailout Vote

From the Hultgren for Congress campaign (14th District)…

ST. CHARLES – Randy Hultgren, Republican candidate for Congress in the 14th District, issued the following statement on the two-year anniversary of Democrat Congressman Bill Foster’s disastrous vote to bail out Wall Street.

“Two years ago today, Congressman Bill Foster disregarded the concerns and views of his constituents to support Nancy Pelosi’s Wall Street bailout bill,” said Hultgren. “Unfortunately, that was just the first of Foster’s many votes for bailouts; since then he has voted repeatedly to bail out the private sector using scarce taxpayer dollars while exploiting any opportunity for government intrusion into the marketplace.”

“I’ve spoken to people all across the 14th District and what I’ve consistently heard is they want and expect a more accountable Congress, one that spends responsibly and adheres to a budget,” said Hultgren.

(14th District) Hultgren To Foster: Call For A Vote On Tax Cuts!

From the Hultgren for Congress campaign (14th District)…

ST. CHARLES – State Senator Randy Hultgren issued the following statement today regarding Congress’s pending failure to pass an extension of expiring tax cuts; Congress is scheduled to adjourn Thursday, part of an effort to give Democrats more time in their districts as they desperately try to save their jobs.

“Taxpayers and small business owners across the 14th Congressional District of Illinois continue to fear what the federal government will do to them while the economy sputters,” said Hultgren. “Rather than going along with efforts to postpone a vote on taxes till after the election, Bill Foster should urge his close, personal friend Nancy Pelosi to hold an up-or-down vote on the extension of all expiring tax cuts prior to this week’s adjournment.”

On Those Bill Foster Ads Slamming Hultgren? Hultgren Says ‘Not True’

From the Hultgren for Congress campaign (14th District)…

St. Charles – State Senator Randy Hultgren, candidate for the U.S. House of Representatives IL-14, today responded to deceptive ads paid for by Congressman Bill Foster, D-Batavia.

“Bill Foster’s allegations against me are not true,” said Hultgren. “Bill Foster hopes with his millions of campaign dollars, that he can fool you into believing his lies.”

“Democrat Bill Foster is lying in a calculated gamble to hide his atrocious record of support of Nancy Pelosi 92.6% of the time including government bailouts, higher taxes, massive spending increases and a health care overhaul,” said Hultgren.[1] “If Foster can stay off the issues through lying about my employment, he is able to avoid his miserable record as a Congressman.”

New Hultgren Ad: Foster’s Jobs Killing Votes

The Randy Hultgren for Congress campaign issued the following statement today regarding the release of their new television advertisement, “Vote.”

“As Bill Foster launches one desperate and dishonest attack after another on Randy Hultgren, it’s important that voters are fully informed of Bill Foster’s out-of-touch, liberal record of voting with Nancy Pelosi 93% of the time, and his support for the Wall Street bailout, the so-called ‘stimulus,’ and the Foster-Pelosi government takeover of health care,” said campaign spokesman Gill Stevens. “This ad does just that, and reminds voters that Bill Foster is part of the problem in Washington, DC.”

Randy Hultgren (14th District): We Need To Restore Fiscal Sanity

From the Hultgren for Congress campaign (14th District)…

ST. CHARLES – The Randy Hultgren for Congress campaign issued the following statement today regarding the nation’s fiscal situation and the out-of-control spending in Washington.

“For too long, both parties in Washington have spent far too much, with far too little regard for the future,” said State Senator Randy Hultgren, Republican candidate for Congress. “We need to restore fiscal sanity to our spending, starting with honest and realistic budgeting and serious-minded plans to balance the budget and pay down the debt. For our sake and for our children’s future, we need to get our fiscal house in order.

“Unfortunately, my opponent Bill Foster has been part of the problem out in Washington. Since he was first elected, our budget deficit has tripled. Bill Foster has consistently supported Nancy Pelosi’s big-spending agenda, and our district and our country deserve a representative who will work to cut spending and restore fiscal discipline in Washington.”

Hultgren (14th District):8 Weeks Until Election Day‏

From the Hultgren for Congress campaign (14th District)…

As we enjoyed this labor day long weekend I wanted to thank you personally for your support and enthusiasm. I spent much of the last week on the road, and will be traveling across the 14th District again for the next two weeks to talk to voters about jobs and the economy.

Our representatives in Washington think they know best how to get our economy moving again, but the reality is that they’re just making things worse. We know that the private sector needs to create jobs and put people back to work, and for that to happen, Washington needs to cut the taxes and red tape that are holding us back.

This November, I believe the people of the 14th District will recognize that Washington is broken, our current Congressman is part of the problem – not the solution – and will support our campaign to get our economy back on track.
